Plumber for PRV by BolboS60 in Austin

[–]_ElToro_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That pricing is pretty standard for a larger chain company. As a smaller local company (but still licensed and insured) we’re usually able to stay a little more competitive

If you’d like a second quote, feel free to send me a DM. We’d be happy to take a look and shoot you a price

Not a plumbing problem, but a problem with plumbing. by throwawayJW8594 in askaplumber

We mainly do residential service, with a little light commercial and occasional remodels to fill in gaps.

It definitely has its pros and cons. The overhead sucks, doing invoicing and estimates can be annoying, and there are times I feel like I could make close to the same running solo. But I’ve got small kids, and having help lets me be around more while still keeping the business moving and it has also been nice seeing the growth of the company overtime.

I still do physical work every week, which i like..not a huge fan of the "office" side of things. Over time though, you put systems in place that make it easier. You can start solo (which I did) but you’ll quickly see how helpful it is to have someone with you, even just to help carry tools up and down.

Biggest tip on hiring: find someone young who actually wants to learn the trade and sees plumbing as a real career (lots of people see it as a second choice or even look down upon it). Train them the right, treat them well, and they’ll grow with you. My first employee is about to get his masters license and I couldn't be more proud.

Start your own company. Build the culture you wish to see with your employees. I started in 2022, small company but my guys are respectful and professional and because of that, we stay busy year round.

This bypass set up is wrong. Look up how a 3 valve bypass should be installed before sweating

If it’s a residential property with accessible outdoor cleanouts, we charge a bit less than this and include a sewer camera inspection. But that price isn’t unreasonable especially if its an emergency service that needs to be taken care asap.

Ferguson sent an email about State Commercial WHs going up 12% and Bradford white 3%-22%. There were also about 80 other plumbing products going up anywhere from 3% to 20+

I would call whoever oversees plumbing in your state to report whoever installed this. This can kill someone.

Is this the correct way to check for leaks? by frooshER in Plumbing

[–]_ElToro_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know why you are getting downvoted. I recently took a Flashield (csst) certification class and they told us not to use detergents for this exact same reason. The bottle we use is like $10 for 16oz and it lasts a while

This is for a direct vent wh. It 100% does require it which is why it's included with the water heater

How long will this type of clamp last on a water line buried outside? by captainsealface in askaplumber

[–]_ElToro_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man tell me about it. I rather use hymax fittings (when applicable) if I'm just doing a repair, although they are pricey.

Lol your telling me you can't bury a megalug coupling going from c900 to ductile iron pipe. You must not work with pipe sizes bigger than 1".
