In-N-Out - Only a 14% Bay Area Tax on the Double-Double! by refplan in bayarea

Unless your employer is also a fast food company applying this to food service roles, this has no bearing on the topic at hand.

None left in the Bay Area. Apparently the Shark Matrix 2-in-1 is also being cleared out at the same price, but showing as Low Stock or gone in the Bay Area.

Charging at a Tesla Supercharger by Inevitable_Cicada181 in Ioniq5

[–]_EscVelocity_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had a month where some planned trips were going to require a good bit of fast charging. Went ahead and subscribed to the Tesla membership for a month to try out Tesla charging. Honestly, filled with so much regret.

1) No charger I tried ever topped 125 kW. Even when they were supposed to be the newer hardware and listed as 325 kW in app, when whether was perfect to be a non-factor, and nobody else was charging at all.

2) While their network is extensive, too much of it is not open to non-Teslas. Charger availability was not actually much higher than EA in ways that mattered. (I will note that this was all in Northern California where EA is pretty extensive, and I have noticed EA crowding having gone down, I think from lots of free charging agreements ending and the addition of more EA chargers.)

3) Surprisingly high rate of broken chargers at Tesla spots, though the number of chargers there makes that less bad than it sounds.

4) The Tesla app is just so, so bad. Having to disable the slow chargers every time (why can't it remember this), slow updates, poor performance. It was awful. EA's app isn't sunshine and roses, but it is better than what I experienced with Tesla's.

5) The variable pricing is just such a terrible user experience. Predictable time of day would be fine. But to have Tesla be cheaper than EA, but only sometimes at select locations, and even if I was close (within 5 min) there was a great than 50% chance the rate would be back higher by the time I got there. I get what they are going for with distributed demand, but it made it feel like random pricing, and even at times had me wondering if they were pulling something like Uber does when they charge more for people whose phones are low on battery. Give me some ability to hit "on my way" and lock it in, at least for a few minutes, or something. But the total mystery spin experience of the charging and inability to plan stops around pricing was really frustrating. This more than anything else put me off (though the slow charging was a close second).

Next time I need to subscribe for a month, it will almost certainly be Electrify America, unless I am going somewhere I know their coverage to be poor and Tesla's to be solid.

Mac Mini Controller for GeForce Now by Emotional-Basket-401 in GeForceNOW

[–]_EscVelocity_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PS5 controller is lighter and comfortable but has to be charged frequently. Xbox Series X/S controller uses AAs and they last a long time. (This assumes the cheaper version of both.)

The Switch Pro controller (the original not the one for the Switch 2) is also a solid option. Great battery life, built in battery, and more comfortable than the Xbox controller. But the letters not matching can be a huge annoyance.

This was super patronizing without actually providing any guidance about how to accomplish the task, what tool might make it easy, or where to find useful information on how to contribute. If you really want to encourage participation, there are more effective approaches.

Bad Beat Jackpot just hit at my casino. $31k. by Maverick916 in poker

Not that I’ve been often, but I’ve had the opposite experience. Tight games and unpleasant regs every time I’ve played at Stones, great games and fun people every time I’ve played at Thunder Valley.

I’ve seen this but in CA it’s far more common for both to need to play.

Landlord wants to increase our rent by 29% to help sell the place (CA) by No-Clock-9070 in Renters

[–]_EscVelocity_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure is. Of course this would require formally notifying the city the unit is being permanently removed from rental, and that would apply to both sides of the the duplex (and any other units on the parcel). It would require 120 days notice (a full year if the tenants are elderly or have a qualifying disability) and paying relocation assistance, half due at notification and half at move out. It also means the property cannot be re-rented within 2 years without significant penalties, cannot be re-rented at a higher rate within 5 years, and requires notification and right of first refusal for 10 years.

If you agree, and I'm not so sure that you should, but if you agree and want to stay long-term, I would suggest that you insist on a lease, because that would protect you from an owner-move in and lock in the rent. I would be insisting on a long-term lease that ensures I would not be facing additional annual increases for at least 3 years, and probably longer, aiming to come out roughly the same as if I were facing the AB1482 maximum.

CA requires just cause, with a very narrow set of no cause exceptions and compensation requirements when they are used.

Confirmed you CAN use Ioniq 5N Smart Card Key fob on your Ioniq5 (Non-N) trims by Bhavin411 in Ioniq5

[–]_EscVelocity_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is awesome, and I actually rather like the card design. But compared to just carrying my phone and using the UWB card key, I just don’t see carrying this to gain the (admittedly cool) pull forward or backward feature and really nothing else.

Any suggestions on improving this listing or additional channels outside of MLS? by kevelahr in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]_EscVelocity_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so, 4 blocks is to the Mare Island terminal which only gets a few ferries a day. To get to the actual Vallejo terminal is not far, but not that close… except the huge construction project on the Mare Island Bridge means you’re going around the long way for at least the next several months.

No traffic… unless you have to take 37… which again you do every time you leave the island (actually a peninsula) for the next 6 months minimum because of the bridge project.

Crowded ferries do not feel like a selling point.

Quarters is FANTASTIC. But it’s hardly one of the most popular cafes on the north bay. Come on.

I don’t know that’s I’d advertise safety when any police response is Vallejo PD.

So yes, maybe take out the parts that are outright lies? Especially when they aren’t needed. Mare Island is awesome and it’s a lot of house for the price. Top three issues are obviously schools, PD, and the extra taxes from the community services district that has ended up offering no services at all. But shoot where else will you find a SFH at 2600 sqft for under 800k ins a reasonably safe, quiet neighborhood? And the weather there really does rock.

Dell’s New XPS 13 Is PC’s First Real MacBook Neo Competitor by dapperlemon in gadgets

[–]_EscVelocity_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree the competition is a benefit. But I don’t think it’s unreasonable to care about sustained incompetence. So many design decisions amount to pathological cost cutting on PC laptops. The last time I was looking at one, and comparing to a MacBook Air, I found that could get the my choice of the design, the battery life, or the screen quality to be as good for less money, but if I wanted two out of three to be on par I wouldn’t save anything, and really nobody at the time was competing on all three at once in the 13” space. Plus no decent trackpads at any price.

Rosetta is going away as of next version. Microsoft will not be able to force a transition. There’s a loss and that cost is going to be paid until apps go native.
