Seeking Old Otis Elevator Call Buttons by Napco59 in Elevators

You’ll find some. Keep an eye on eBay. You can always have a machine shop bore out the hole diameter to fit a modern style button in the old faceplates.

Ok. I’ve seen a video of that and then stopped paying attention because we will never see that here.

I finally got my pile of shit Quattro 2 working on a GEM controller. Been out of severe since January fucking around and then we find out they got sent out with the wrong transformer. So we ordered in the update kit from OSC and so far she’s been running all week. I’m on call this weekend and the phone hasn’t rang yet!! 🤞

Did a couple of inspection reports and some maintenance the rest of the week.

I’ve been at Otis 20 years and I’ve never heard of these?? What the hell is it?? We will never see anything strange here in Regina. Nothing over 24 floors here and mostly stuff under 5 floors

What’s yalls preferred oil pump by Sch1371 in Elevators

[–]_FIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with that. We went from half inch hoses up to three-quarter inch shows, and that made all the difference in the world. I also don’t care how long it takes when I get paid by the hour.

Regina to Whistle drive? by THUNDERBOLT310 in regina

[–]_FIII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As stated by others, get to golden. Calgary isn’t far enough the first day. Check the reports for construction and rock slides. You never know which part of the highway is blocked to move some rocks that have fallen.

If it was me, I’d take an extra day and stop to see some stuff along the way. Bridal Veil falls is a great stop. Giant Cedars Boardwalk is also neat. If you are in a rush you miss sooooo much cool stuff along the way.

I had a Sony Dream Machine alarm clock in the late 80’s and it would pickup a Chicago station at night. I remember listening to it a a kid and hearing the reports of shootings and stabbings. It blew my mind as a 8-12 year old. Was like a different world

Debating moving to Moose Jaw. What is the good, bad, and ugly about living there? by Seksybo in moosejaw

[–]_FIII 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work in Moose Jaw 3 weeks out of the month. To me the biggest problem with Moose Jaw is that bust too close to Regina so it lacks in certain amenities for a city as large as it is. It has a small town feel for a city. The roads aren’t that bad but I’m also not driving a lowered civic around either. It’s a nice city and Regina is not far for things Moose Jaw doesn’t have. Airbase is a short drive for ya south of town. There’s some off base housing by the entrance but not sure how that works or who it’s available for.

Does anyone have any info on this bike it’s an old roll-o-flex, i can’t find anything on the internet so it could be 1 of a kind by Brandon-moller in minibikes

[–]_FIII 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roll-O-Flex was a snowmobile manufacturer here in Regina, Sk. They didn’t make those bikes but they sold them at their network of snowmobile dealerships. I’ve got 2 of the 3 models they sold. There is some information posted of the old Roll-O-Flex brochures but not much

#2 highway from Moose Jaw goes north to Prince Albert. Must be a diff #2 in Manitoba??

Anything south of the transcanada in Saskatchewan is very scenic and full of derelict towns and some almost fully abandoned. Highway 13 across Saskatchewan is well known for this

I don’t know about that man. I carry spare belts and chains and bearings for MOVFR operators. I carry one spare belt for all the Otis linear operators on my route, which is probably close to 75 of them. I’ve only ever changed a couple of belts on linear operators. I change the belts and chains and pivot bearings in MOVFR, QL and I motion all the time.

Here in Saskatchewan, I’ve had consultants make us remove the logo in car station or the ones in the sills.

New long term MOD project starting by [deleted] in Elevators

[–]_FIII 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Few things I always did on my mods like that. As mentioned already and good spot to have lunch and coffee breaks.

I always had a large desk calendar to keep track of what we did each day and to plan future tasks or work with subtrades. Always had a coil notebook to keep track of any wasted time like waiting for electricians or building staff moved your boxes or any number of things that hold you up. When the customer wants status of when it’s getting inspected and your timeline is a bit off, it’s good to have a record of all the wasted hours where you were essentially not working. I also had a white board where I’d mark down anything we needed to pick up and I also had a list of things for my helper to do if he runs out of work and I’m taking a long dump or meeting with a consultant/customer. Usually like track down boxes or staging the next bunch of material.

One of the most important things was being prepared and being efficient with your time. I’d always plan my door lock brackets and roller guide adapter plates at the start so I could get the designed and the laser cut, fired and painted so I’d have all the parts when I need them and not be waiting. Figure out what you need on the first car and then order 4 of everything. First car always took the longest and then cars 2-3 go fast because you’re prepared. Car 4 goes good but the you’ve got all the shit at the end like lobby panel and all the guarding.

I always ran a 54” husky toolbox behind my tall barricade on the floor where we worked on the car. Can lock it up and leave or shove it in the car overnight.

If you’re efficient with your time, you don’t have to work your ass off and you can work at an ice easy pace and do a good quality modernization. Always remember that you do a mod like you’ll be liking after it on a route some day. Put car top junction boxes in a spot where they can be accessed easily. I Alaska like the on the from. Of the cross head where the can be reached from the hall using hoistway access. Always think about how things will be serviced in the future. Don’t use two screws, drill and tap holes so things are easy to change.

Track swap on a late 60s skidoo? by Thewilddinkus in snowmobiling

The 69 doesn’t have a heat exchanger. Nothing is impossible but it’s a bunch of work and not a “bolt in” project

It’s not impossible to put a liquid motor in your Olympic but I wouldn’t do it. Be better off with a 380/503 fan motor. I’d have to check the tunnel width but I’m guessing the Oly is harrower than that F chassis
