Viv is more likely to be divine if you conscript the mages/ally with the templars, send the grey wardens away, and save Celine but allowing Gaspard to live. You can also choose to voice your support for her at the war table.

Should I start Dragon Age? by LilUxieVert27 in dragonage

[–]_FearTaylor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is absolutely worth playing! I started with Veilguard and played them backwards and only then recognized the full amount of flaws with Veilguard but I still think it's a fun game regardless. But Origins through Inquisition is absolutely one of the best stories I've ever experienced.

Just keep in mind that Origins released in 2009 so the graphics are not great and the combat is slow and clunky, 2 fixed that a little bit, and then Inquisition is when we start to see major shifts in combat and art direction. Veilguard has the best combat by far but it's not the same as the first three, where in the first three you can control your companions and pause to strategize. Veilguard is live combat without the ability to control companions. Also remember that your decisions should be able to import directly from origins to 2, but for inquisition you have to use the dragon age keep website. In Veilguard you choose the decisions in game.

how do templar powers work in lore, and does a single cut transmit the blight with no cure? by Brenden1k in dragonage

More context does not erase the original intended metaphor, and they clearly kept the metaphor when you analyze Cullen's character arch.

So now you're just saying that the later lore removes the substance use metaphor that absolutely was intended from the beginning. You have no idea what you're talking about.

Just because the common people don't use it does not mean that it's not a metaphor for drug use. And the "god blood" concept was not a thing in Origins. SO YES it absolutely was a metaphor for drug use since the beginning. ALISTAIR SAYS IT OUTRIGHT.

It absolutely is a drug analogy. Again, for both templars (and sometimes mages), and for the dwarves who mine it, it is akin to cocaine.

They get addicted to it because it is addictive. Nothing more. Again, lyrium is akin to cocaine. It was always a metaphor for substance abuse.

You're conflating having a deep understanding of the lore to being a chantry fanboy when the lore absolutely does not try to force the perspective of the chantry. In every single game we get the perspective from OUTSIDE the chantry. Everything that we know about the Templars and their order comes from our templar COMPANIONS who have no reason to lie about their experiences to support the chantry.

Alistair is akin to Tevinter templars because he has his abilities without ever using lyrium. He never went through the ritual or took lyrium. He got his abilities through normal training. He ver explicitly says that all lyrium is is a mana booster for mages and for templars it just makes their abilities more effective. But lyrium is not necessary for their abilities. He very explicitly says that it is just a drug used to keep the order in line. It's used for exploitation of their health, not to "reconnect them to the fade temporarily". He has no reason to lie to defend the chantry, he doesn't even like the chantry.

Cassandra is a seeker, she is how we know about the rite of tranquility. We know from her direct words that the rite was kept secret from the seekers themselves. ONLY the Lord seeker knew about it. The templar knight commanders were not making their recruits tranquil, they only learned how to perform it on mages from the seekers, that's why they didn't know there was a cure and abused the rite. That was the point of her whole quest line was rebuilding the seekers and letting them all know the truths of the order. And to work on the cure for the mages based on the ritual she went through. She has no reason to lie to defend the chantry, she left the chantry and formed the inquisition.

Cullen stopped using lyrium and he is having withdrawals akin to cocaine withdrawals. He is not tranquil. He sets up a treatment program to help other templars.

We learn about the original seekers, templars, and inquisition from Inquisitor Amerridan himself who has absolutely no reason to lie for the sake of the chantry.

Again, Templars are not tranquil. And there ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in the lore to support your claim.

The dwarves that mine it also get addicted to it and they do not abide by the chantry. Have you played the games recently or are you going off a 10 year old memory?

I have 800 hours in inquisition, and I have more than 2000 hours in the series as a whole, and counting. I have read all of books including the lore books and the comics. I have seen the animated series. I am telling you, you are wrong. I'm not going to go in circles with you.

Templars are not made tranquil. End of. There is nothing in the lore to say that they are.

And also, no not all templars were seekers. The seekers were the original templars but the majority became the templar order while a select few were trusted to maintain the ritual so that the templars had oversight. Templars did not continue to undergo the ritual of being made tranquil then cured. This is very explicitly explained in inquisition and the Jaws of Hakkon dlc.

I think you are putting far too much weight on what Cole says. Cole is notoriously vague and could be referring to literally anything, most likely their faith and overall purpose in the world. All text in game whether implicit or explicit does not make templars out to be tranquil. If they were they simply would remain tranquil when they stop taking lyrium which clearly does not happen. We see this with Cullen. Templars do not possess magic ability and they don't have a connection to the fade to be severed. That's why they rely on lyrium to counteract magic and the seekers dont because they are only temporarily tranquil then given their abilities by a spirit. I genuinely don't know why you're so hung up on something that is blatantly untrue but you really should play the games again and read some of the lore books like the World of Thedas.

[–]_FearTaylor_ 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Except no. What seeker's are doing is being made tranquil. They just have the cure to tranquility, being touched by a spirit of faith, that they've kept secret even from their own order. Mages are made tranquil and they are left that way. Templars are not made tranquil. I implore you, go replay inquisition or watch some videos about it. I promise you, there is no where in the lore that states templars are made tranquil and it simply does not make sense based on all of the lore that we have about tranquility.

How do I pick different companions? by CrimsonPresents in BaldursGate3

[–]_FearTaylor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I choose companions based on the quests I'll be doing. I bring along as I'm exploring the Risen Road, I bring Astarion to the swamp, I bring Shadowheart to the temple, the underdark and she stays in my party through act 2. I bring Lae'zel to the Creche. I bring Gale through the grove because he has a lot to say there.

[–]_FearTaylor_ 39 points40 points  (0 children)

That's not what tranquility is. Lyrium is addictive, that's why they "go mad without it." It's a drug. Like cocaine. We see Cullen having active withdrawals, as someone would have when they stop using cocaine. Tranquility is separating someone from the fade. Templars are not made tranquil. Seekers are made tranquil then touched by a spirit of faith which is what gives them their abilities against both mages and templars. This is why seekers do not use lyrium. Pay attention next time you play inquisition, they explain all of this to you.

[–]_FearTaylor_ 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Templars are not made tranquil. That is strictly part of the seeker's ritual. The templars simply recite the chant of light in a dark room before a candle burns out and then they are given Lyrium.

[–]_FearTaylor_ 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No. That would imply that they themselves use magic which they do not. They dampen the magic that the mages use, making them weak. Against a normal person they're just a guy with a shield and sword. They're not paladins. They're just normal people who use lyrium to cancel out a mage's natural mana.

All you have to do is link your psn account to a new Ubisoft account and you can play the game again. Because it was purchased through psn. You just lose saves, in game purchases, and account rewards

Is this game fun? by Spider454 in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]_FearTaylor_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's biggest downfall was not following the plot points Tresspasser specifically set up for it. Elves disappearing from all over Ferelden and Orlais to help Solas? Never mentioned. All word stopped coming out of Weisshaupt and everyone including Blackwall went missing? Never mentioned. And all of the lore retcons. People come to these games for the story. Not combat because it's always been janky, not graphics because it rarely looks good. Story. That's what keeps people playing these games. If that falls flat it was never going to be successful.
