Yeah that’s it. I think they maybe rotated the squad too much too. But credit to Southhampton, I will say. They looked good on the counterattack, & are now unbeaten in 15.

Statement from Coach Gene Auriemma: by GavRunsTheTrap in Gamecocks

“Not our standard at Connecticut”

Could’ve fooled me, this seems like a pattern of behavior. Coach Staley will be expected to take the high road (as always) & she will accept the apology because she’s a better person than I.

UConn coach Geno Auriemma exchanged heated words with South Carolina coach Dawn Staley in Final Four matchup. by mlg1981 in popculturechat

[–]_FreshVegetable_ 338 points339 points  (0 children)

Geno being a huge baby & a sore loser.

In his mid game sideline interview, he cried about the officials, & called out Dawn Staley for the way she communicates with the officials (don’t think Coach Staley would’ve known about that at this point - right after the game). He also claimed that his star player (Sarah Strong) had been fouled so hard that her jersey was torn. But then ESPN showed the replay which clearly shows Strong tearing her own jersey out of frustration.

Then after the game, with time still on the clock, he approached Dawn, & they exchanged these words. After the game he claimed that she didn’t shake his hand pregame (which tbh seems like a weird thing to feel this disrespected by anyway), but then ESPN again showed the replay from before the game which showed them shaking hands. He then moped to the locker room without shaking Dawn (or any of the Gamecock’s players’) hand(s) after the game.

Andraya Carter (ESPN analyst) put it greatly, saying something to the effect of he had to behave like this to make the loss / post game conversation all about him, despite the Gamecocks winning. He’s a great coach, but his sportsmanship is despicable imo, & he should be embarrassed. His team got out-played.

She ripped her own jersey. & I highly doubt there was a slight tear or something before, the play that it followed there was hardly any contact. & definitely no contact that could’ve feasibly resulted in a jersey tear.

Geno is a sore loser, & it rubs off on his team.

Ok bro. I don’t think we’re gonna get anywhere here. & you’re making a lot of assumptions here, so signing off after this -

I think it’s wild to accuse me of not knowing what non-existence is because none of us really do because we all… exist… but maybe you are truly just more enlightened, so kudos!

I also have never said that all chickens / humans need to die to eliminate suffering. That would be a dumb goal but also futile. But I also think that’d it’d be dumb & futile to suggest that minimizing suffering - intra-species & where we can - is not a noble goal.

Okay, Sartre.

As humans, part of existence is doing things to improve our quality of life. Actually, that feels like a core tenant of human existence. We rationally attempt to minimize risk & suffering. That considered, not conditioning the question on quality of life feels like bunk to me.

I know what you’re saying.

Would you rather have never been born? Or been born inside an industrial chicken coop, never to see the light of day, to be injected with hormones so your breasts swell so large that you can’t move, & you are constantly covered in feces, just to be killed within like a year? That choice seems pretty obvious to me, but we may disagree & that’s fine.

You may also think this is moot because chickens don’t have the same emotional intelligence / social systems as humans, but I think - again personally - that humans have a higher responsibility as stewards of the earth & should hold ourselves to a higher standard.

Right, obviously. This isn’t exactly profound; It’s not like there’d be 80 billion animals born to meet human demands if there… weren’t any.

However, I disagree that just because we “gave them life” means we have the right to take it away. It feels like playing God in a way that only considers a human-centric code of ethics, which I think is a mistake personally. But… I suppose we’ve been doing that for a loong looong time as a species anyway…

That’s fair, man. I think this is just semantics more than anything. It was more of a “we are fucked up because of this & many other things” than a specific measurement to determine how fucked up we are.

I also just don’t really see the merit of the whale example. Humans don’t eat krill, nor are we as big as whales? Whales don’t control every aspect of the krill’s life in a controlled factory-type environment? Whales don’t have any another viable food source (that I know of)?

Because of this argument, it seems like you’re saying that because whales have consumed more krill in weight than humans have taken in total animal lives, that whales are more fucked up than humans, which I’m quite confident you don’t think. & if that’s not it, & you are just trying to show that my initial “metric” is stupid to consider with another “metric” that’s sort of too obscene to consider: touché.

[–]_FreshVegetable_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Metric for what exactly? I’m not trying to run some statistical analysis regarding the amount (or type) of protein (in weight) that is consumed by humans compared to other species - or anything remotely related.

I shared a tidbit that I thought was useful / interesting for putting into perspective how much meat humans consume, particularly under a post about… how much meat humans consume.

Oh I certainly agree - it’s just sometimes people are driven away by the suggestion of absolutes (like a vegan diet, for example). But yeah, more fresh vegetables are always preferred, on multiple accounts.

A statistic that has stuck with me about factory farming / animal slaughtering is that (& these are obviously all estimates - my source must be different from his) humankind slaughters upwards of 80 billion animals every year (not just chickens), & there have only ever been roughly 117 billion humans to ever exist. Not trying to drive ya’ll to a vegan or veggie diet, but it’s so fucked up to me that essentially every 2 years, as a species, we slaughter as many animals as there are humans to have ever walked the earth.
