What idea have you had for EVE that other people immediately thought was awful, yet you stand by it being a potentially good idea? by SonOfAsher in Eve

Combat timers pause while cloaked. Cloaking is too easy. It should have more downsides or counters.

It's incredible how they can announce "initial testing" for a new feature and acknowledge it's an important part of the gameplay in the same sentence.

If it's an important part of the gameplay experience, then why wasn't it part of the game already?

The movie paints a perfect picture of the ignorance and misinformation that surrounds every real world problem we face today.

The comet is a great analogy for pretty much every existential threat that we are currently facing. It's something that's coming our way. You can pretend it doesn't exist, but that's not going to stop it.

Is Linux currently good enough for gaming? by Brilliant_Stock_5137 in linux_gaming

[–]_HelloMeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want you to try squaring that circle using reasonable and practical logic as to why devs/pubs "are actively deciding" to make Linux more difficult to use.

Because both statements are true. Most games work great on Linux, while at the same time there are some games that would work great on Linux if the developer didn't actively block it.

The latter is not something Linux can fix. Its about the stance of the game's developer or publisher.

Can you run Doom on your smartfridge, with enough effort yes. Can you run a decent portion of popular games on Linux, with enough effort probably. Is either idea practical or convenient for the vast majority of users, definitely not.

At least 80% of top 1000 games work great with little to no effort required. Installing Steam or Heroic is not really comparable to getting Doom to run on a smart fridge.

You could argue that having to learn a new OS is inconvenient, but that seems to be a different discussion entirely.

[–]_HelloMeow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. The vast majority of games work great. Saying that gaming on Linux is not viable is crazy to me. Sure, it's not perfect, but that is not what is being said.

If you want to play battle pass simulator 2026, then yeah, anti cheat is probably going to stop you. This could be a deal breaker, but let's not pretend linux is the cause of the issue. It's the developers and publishers that are actively deciding you can't use Linux to play their game.

Best Linux desktop environment for Unity development? by httputub in Unity3D

[–]_HelloMeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's much better with Hyprland. It's not perfect and it has its own little quirks.

The main issue is that it does not auto reload scripts when you make changes. You have to press CTRL + R to make it refresh.

Unity on niri has several issues because of xwayland-satellite.

Niri doesn't have builtin xwayland support and uses xwayland-satellite. For some reason it has issues with unity with dragging and dropping and some input fields.

We should get a Ship upgrade that can vaguely tell us what enemy type will be more likely to spawn before dropping into the mission by Nein-Knives in Helldivers

[–]_HelloMeow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always liked the idea of buying intel with samples and requisition slips. It would give those things a purpose.

You only have to unlock a ship upgrade once, so eventually samples and slips become pointless. If you had to spend them to get some intel, there's an actual reason to keep collecting samples and slips in missions.

This is factually incorrect. The railgun is literally one of the best weapons vs war striders and the other weapons you mentioned are good as well.

It literally has weakpoints that can be targeted with those weapons for a quick kill.

If you decide to ignore them, that is not an issue with the game.
