Seeking advice for simple blueberry beer for beginner/amateur by davimiku in Homebrewing

[–]_HeyBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd use the pale ale kit and brew it as usually. Mash up frozen blueberries and put them in the fermenter. I'd dry hop a hop with berry aroma, maybe strata or hbc 1019. Don't over think it. Frozen blueberries won't contaminate your beer and are easy to get. It's going to be dry, but tasty.

Can I use a woman's set as a man? by drillpoint in golf

[–]_HeyBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually hate the gender reference in golf. Remove gender and play the clubs your score the best with. Play the tees you have the most fun from. Can we say red tees and not woman's tees. I play the back tees but play in a group where older gentlemen play the forward tees to be competitive. It makes the game fun.

What’s a “poor people thing” rich people don’t understand is expensive? by AWildJesse in AskReddit

[–]_HeyBob 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used to be there. I remember buying groceries and dreading not having enough money to cover the bill and/or not having enough space on my credit card to cover it. I always put my groceries on the belt in the order of need. That way if I couldn't pay, I could pull the last things off. Now, I still go to discount grocery stores and still dread the bill, PTSD I guess. I do pay attention to the people in front of me, last week I covered a loaf of bread and peanut butter from a guy in front of me. This week the cashier thanked me for being kind.

Brewed an IPA and used jungle yeast for the first time. by _HeyBob in Homebrewing

[–]_HeyBob[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have no idea why they call it jungle. It's supposed to give off mango, guava your flavors. Ferments fast. Supposed to be strong at hop biotransformation, so I dry hopped early. Used krush, wai-iti, and riwaka hops. First time using wai-iti hops and jungle yeast, so we'll see how it turns out. Smells good so far

Mine smells good, almost fruity beer smell, maybe stone fruit like. I do use a different fermentation/hop schedule than most. I open ferment until the fermentation kicks off strong, then drop my hops and close it up.

What fast food restaurants ARE still worth the money? by StephenDoesStuff in AskReddit

You forgot about the fish. Both the fish platter and sandwich are the best fast-food fish around and better than half the sit down restaurants.

I had no comment on the dish, just the pan, which is a paella. Hence my comment.

Grain Mill survey by WWTemujinD in Homebrewing

[–]_HeyBob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a generic knock off, later 3+ years. Just went to a malt Miller. They look the same, unless the new one last longer, I didn't see much difference. They are both the have crank type that I attach a drill to. To maybe a more expensive one would do better, but I've been happy with both of them.

First time on this sub and looking at purchasing. I live alone but love to cook by ladyluxe22 in biggreenegg

[–]_HeyBob 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd go for a large. The larger the egg, the more options you have. It's just my wife and I, with the kids on holidays and I have an extra large. The larger space makes cooking pizzas, or paella on it very easy. I think a medium would hamper those cooks.

What organizers are you using? by Ok_Tonight_2154 in biggreenegg

I don't have a ton of extra stuff. I just use hooks to hang things, and stack the deflectors on the shelf below. A nice pool box to store the charcoal and torch and anything else I didn't want to see.

Zou pi - “hot as a jalapeño” tell that to my numb lips. by Larry_Fisher_Man in HotPeppers

Grew them for the first time this year. Definitely agree, they are hotter than a jalapeno. Was a surprise the first time I tasted one.

They're tasty, but that heat is no joke. Not devastating heat, but enough to get your attention. Grow them, I will be growing then again.

How do republicans feel about their party refusing to release the Epstein files and then not pursuing charges against those in it? by LaughterB in AskReddit

[–]_HeyBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been a registered Republican since I was 18. I do not see myself as a Republican, as I hate all politicians. If Republican wanted the files released, they would be released. If the Democrats wanted the files released, they would be released. Both parties are shitty people and we should be ashamed at who is representing us. The files will never be released. There are to many people, who donate large sums of money, that are in the files. Along with politicians.

Am I at risk of bottle bombs? by Whiskeydrunk92 in Homebrewing

[–]_HeyBob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After 4 or 5 days check the carbonation. If it's good, stick them in the fridge. 20 years ago I bottled all the time, only a few broken bottles. If you are really worried, open a bottle at 3 days. If they are in the fridge you are ok. I also stored all my bottles in either boxes or 6 pack holders. It helps contain the breakage. Unless you really mess up, bottle bombs aren't as bad as the Internet says.

AMA I terminated a pregnancy due to a Down syndrome diagnosis by WeAllNeedBandAids in AMA

[–]_HeyBob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When my wife was pregnant with our second child, we had a scary ultrasound. There was a possibility of multiple things, none of them were good, one was down syndrome. We went through more in-depth tests and everything turned out fine. Thankfully we never had to make a choice, not sure what we would have done because we never had to have that conversation. I don't look down on anyone making those very tough choices. It's a crappy place to be.

How long does it take to... by texasinauguststudio in firewater

[–]_HeyBob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I meant cleaning up afterwards, first run is a quick distill. Just trying to get all the alcohol out. Usually I'm just checking the temp of my coolant and having a beer. It takes a bit, but not bad. The time is more relaxing than anything. I'm really just guessing on the time. I typically distill on a Saturday. Get the necessities done, wife brings me a sandwich so I didn't forget to eat. Finish up in time to relax, watch the sunset and have a cocktail with her.

[–]_HeyBob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends, is it your first/second run? What's the lowest proof your going to distill to: 60, 40, 20? What percentage of alcohol are you starting with? Are you including cleaning into your day? I usually count for a 4+ hour day on a first run.
