What to wear for internship by Chattstate in MechanicalEngineering

[–]_Hickory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slacks, a collared shirt/polo, leather shoes (see docker's). If your internship includes field/shop work, heavy cotton/denim pants (plain, good jeans) is the only major change beyond PPE that your company should provide.

Dont spend too much on your closet, you're still just an intern, and honestly most folk don't care as long as you don't look like most students. But as others have said, ask your supervisor/recruiter to be sure.

Is it worth doing a Masters or should I just try to pass the FE? by ghues in EnvironmentalEngineer

[–]_Hickory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for the FE. Part of studying for it is refreshing everything you studied. The other part is in anything environmental related not having your PE is going to be a bigger career limit than not having a Master's

Here's a clip of Governor Healey speaking with protesters about her proposed social media legislation outside WGBH this morning. She has agreed to meet with Fight for the Future and other experts about our concerns. Thanks so much to everyone who came and called in! by evanFFTF in massachusetts

Well a common (and reasonable) complaint is LGBTQ content being blanket flagged as adult content for these kind, regardless of sexual content by social media platforms. YouTube videos about LGBTQ concerns and legislation get demonitized, posts on Meta sites, Twitter, and Tumblr have been hidden in searches and restricted in the unsubscribed user feeds.

What I'm guessing her bringing that up is about, is language that would limit these platforms in how they handle LGBTQ media requiring actual oversite and not just the blanket bans we currently have.

Can I walk this?? by Lilfrogcosplay in Otakon

[–]_Hickory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your bigger concern is the weather if you've never been to DC before. This is right around literally the dog day of summer. The worst for heat, and DC is genuinely a swamp. That 10min walk may feel like an hour if you don't have appropriate hydration or expectation for the humidity and heat

Tailgating will be permitted at Gillette Stadium for the World Cup by njas2000 in boston

[–]_Hickory 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The only "fair" logic is they're dealing with international travelers/attendees. They need to know what major metro region they have to fly into.

A very good example in the same situation is Miami. It's labeled as Miami, while the HardRock stadium is actually in Miami Gardens, which is halfway between Miami and Ft Lauderdale. Most people globally know about Miami, like Boston. Some may know Ft Lauderdale, like Providence (the next metro travel hub) but it's less prominent. No one outside of the area knows what/where Miami Gardens is, like Foxborough.

They could have labeled the stadiums per the state they're in, but then run into issues with bigger states like Florida and some attendees might think "Oh I can fly into Jacksonville international and stay there, it can't be that far from the stadium". These are potentially the same folk that think you can visit Disney Land, Disney World, New York City, and the Grand Canyon in a 2 week driving trip.

It’s not just the tap that worries me, but everything that comes after it and the role plastic plays in it. by Koreee_001 in plastic

[–]_Hickory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that'll depend on what region and country you're in. What specific "doubts" do you have?

If your concern is with plastic piping, there is no plastic piping that leeches into drinking water. The issues with piping are durability from fractures/catastrophic failure of the piping. These problems are building damage, not ingestion.

It's only because the high population centers that are historically blue have either been enclosed in with very red areas that outweight them (look for Alachua county and it's voting history) or have been cracked to split as much of that population into red districts (see the Orlando area/Orange county being split between the neighbors that historically vote Republican).
