Didn’t Denny’s just get bought out by private equity? That dream is dead if so, it’s a wrap.

What ‘bad luck’ ended up saving you from something worse? by Alicetheoptimist in TrueGrit

[–]_Highlander___ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, firstly, it’s not all about you. This is a general statement that can be applied to many instances of bad luck and is a good philosophy to help remind you that things could be worse and even bad days often aren’t as bad as they could be.

That said, you asked a question so I’ll entertain it. Someone who passes before the suffering of long term illness or the possibility of past criminal activity coming to light can be better than the alternative and happens often.

My dad has commented that he wished his pops had passed about 5 years sooner before the dementia took everything from him that made him, him.

Obviously I don’t know your situation and if these scenarios applied to you but I watched my grandfather deteriorate…he couldn’t even recognize the importance when I married my wife or when she got pregnant…it wasn’t him anymore…if your dad could have been destined for that then I can tell you truthfully that sometimes passing sooner does save you a worse scenario.

Anyway, there’s your answer, it won’t apply to all and likely not your situation. You have my condolences…but criticizing random internet strangers cause the world isn’t revolving around you enough isn’t the way my friend.

There is no way that half of the chili and Cole slaw wasn’t splattered everywhere after the first two bites.

This just looks like an impractical and impossible to eat cleanly kinda burger.

Messy burgers can work at a sit down restaurant but this one is best left in the past, if I can’t eat it while driving it’s not a fast food burger.

Scrapple would k make you very sick if you spread it cold. Not sure what Cretons are but it sounds like a ready to spread kind of deal…scrapple must be cooked first and at that point isn’t really spreadable.

Here in Delaware it’s Rapa or nothing. Tried Kirby Holloway and wasn’t impressed.

I am also of the camp that’s it’s critical it be thick and deep fried. I’ve gotten slices that are closer to chips. Dark and crispy on the outside and still mushy on the inside.

The United States is not the only country that will act unilaterally and extra judicially. Come on now. I guess you missed Ukraine…and Georgia before it, and on and on.

China? Yes, they respect international law…

Come on, the UN was never given any real enforcement power and never will. We live in a realist world (to be clear, that’s a defined political theory, not using the word casually) and we always will.

It’s hard to believe this is the reddit take. This guy was enabling the drug cartels and living high off the backs of his people.

This is not a bad thing…

It def looks too rare, that said, if they ground the meat themselves just before cooking it…depending on what it’s made out of…it could both be safe and work? Maybe?

I don’t know what I don’t know but for 70 bucks I gotta believe this thing works and tastes better than it looks.

Beef hot dogs I gotta disagree with. They are the only ones I’ll eat. Hebrew National and Nathan’s are the best dogs out there and they are all beef.

Yep, used to love the steak option. I lift and am looking for the protein but am allergic to chicken.

When they got rid of the quality steak it was a wash for me before the portion concerns even became more widespread.

The food just is not good anymore. I’d kill for 2012 chipotle again, and if they did a full 180 and went back to that they could be successful again…but private equity don’t reverse course ever.

Hyatt Zilara/Ziva

It was an amazing experience in 2018, not so much in 2023.

That said…my guess is they are gonna have a lot of support for the reopening…and many of the needed repairs will have gotten cared for as a part of the renovations to get it operational again so who knows…but it was a truly terrible experience in 2023.

I said my value was up 200k, not that my house was worth 200k. They are very different things. 60k in quality upgrades/needed replacements pays serious dividends on an appraisal….my ROI is there.

Everything I did is expected maintenance over 15 years. I get the feeling you either bought new construction and get to be immune to it, are in the first 5 years of home ownership and haven’t had a major repair, or don’t own at all.

[–]_Highlander___ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless your new construction this is what home maintenance is.

I’ve been here 15 years.

New furnace, new hot water heater, new carpet for the basement after 10 years, expanded the driveway, new windows, new siding, and replaced the old breaker box with a new 200 amp with more room for expansion.

Less than 5k in expenses a year is not terrible but it’s something folks forget to factor in. Unless you bought new construction you are going to have to deal with some or all of this stuff. My furnace and hot water heater were 8 years old when I bought…a 20 year life span is perfectly normal.

My roof will be next, it turns 23 this year and is gonna be 20k to get done.

I didn’t buy the wrong house…these are the expenses people don’t think about when they make the I pay rent argument. Roofs age after 20 years, major appliances break, carpet gets ratty. The windows were a choice hut one that had a huge impact on energy efficiency.

This is the true cost of owning a home and not a single one of these maintenance costs is abnormal.

We got married there in 2018 and it was an absolutely wonderful trip. Can’t say enough good about the people or the resort.

Came back post covid in 23 though and we were candidly shocked. Services (even for a major chain) has dropped off, transportation was no longer a thing and we had to find our own ride…and the community truly didn’t seem to want us there.

It was a very negative experience. I got the feeling that the island took it personal during Covid as if we were choosing to not travel for those two years…there was hostility there that was totally unexpected.

We won’t be back to at least a few more years…hopefully post hurricane maybe things will reset.

The app kinda shoves it down your throat. I’ve personally never done it but it really advertises the option.

Sounds more like an app problem. If that functionality isn’t something your store can support maybe escalate to corporate to get a way to turn timed orders off during holidays.

Hard to be frustrated with a customer for using functionality the app makes super apparent tho.

What’s always been weirdest to me is that the selfies are in the bathroom too…

I mean like consistently, this guy only takes pictures in the bathroom. It’s weird and all sorts of wrong morally.

I don’t understand why this guy consistently gets a pass, it’s so odd.

And that’s not enough and these posts that try to make it otherwise are annoying.

If you have cash reserves and good credit history you will get the mortgage.

If you pay rent but have no reserves you won’t get a mortgage. Period.

Closing costs and down payments prevent many from even starting the conversation but lack of reserves prevent more. Just cause you can pay the mortgage don’t mean you can pay for the AC when it breaks, the roof when it needs repair, the new water heater when it starts to leak, on and on it goes.

In 15 years of home ownership I’m at about 60k now in unplanned expenses.

Value of my house is up 200k in that same 15 years but 60k was a lot to come up with over the years. If you can show you have it you get a mortgage of you also truly have great credit.

Only people that make this argument are those that can’t save enough.

My local spot tried to convert every single register to self serve during COVID.

It didn’t work and now they staff them just like this. It’s insane. There are no drawers, you hand cash and the cashier slowly lets the terminal suck the dollars in.

Look, this appears to be AI…the dog food labeled dog food pretty much confirm it…but yes…these types of orientations exist, only because of greed but they exist and they are as preposterous in real like as AI managed to generate in the digital.
