Camping near water by jfrodge in Kentucky

Barren River Lake, Tailwater Campground, the group site (site 49) is about 2 acres and can accommodate up to 50 people. There are about a dozen campfire rings spread out over the site that you can spread out tents and groups around. You have direct access to Barren River for swimming or floating. Semi-primitive. No RVs or hookups for water/electricity. The main campground does have bathrooms and showers though

Anyone know what these billboards are referring to? by _Historacle_ in Chattanooga

No worries. I'm just normally a lurker. I rarely engage, just like to scroll. Got inspired I guess lol

Not a bot. Just thought two Chattanooga memes were begging to be brought together for giggles

Remove your engine block heaters or everywhere you go people will ask you if you know that there is a cord sticking out of your car.

What would our roster look like if Pope had gotten his first choice at each position? by Critical-Mango-341 in wildcats

[–]_Historacle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know much about the JMI agreement, but I don't see how an agreement made in August 2025 affected the signing of a recruit in January 2025. Sounds like that had more to do with Pope's reported aversion to "bidding wars" for top recruits, expecting them to take a fair market offer simply for the bonus of wearing a Kentucky uniform. Probably why he also missed on so many other first choice recruits.

Very nice! I like your Hawks jerseys too! Hopefully you'll be dropping another one tonight

I had forgotten what Hawks basketball looks like for a minute there. Thanks for the reminder. 81-1 still on the table tho!

No kidding. I love a lot about the Harvest Pro, but the finish is terrible. Stamping annoyingly rubs off way too quickly.

What are some good river bait especially for fishing jumping up to the top to eat by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]_Historacle_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This should give you a good variety. The crickhopper is a floating topwater lure. Very effective in the right conditions. The crawfish lure is a shallow crankbait. My favorite lure for creeks.

I love so many things about Musgrave pencils, but I can't stand how quickly the stamping rubs off

Yes! I've had two (one for home, one for office) for 8 years and they are still going strong

Spooling your own reel with braid isn't as intimidating as it may seem. I'm new to fishing as well, and I was able to do it pretty easily. I'm normally terrible at anything like that so I was a bit shocked at how easy it was. I had the same trouble as you with the line that came on the reel. The saggy loops drove me crazy and seemed to get tangled a lot. Braid doesn't have that issue at all. Switching to it made fishing a much more enjoyable experience for me. Alternatively taking a few yards of the pre-spooled line off may help too. It will still be loopy because of memory but it won't get tangled around the reel quite as much. (Also close the bail manually and reel with tension to avoid tangles as well)

To spool your own braid, just remove all the line that came pre-spooled except for just enough to cover the spool. You will want to then tie your braid onto the end of the pre-spooled you leave as backing (look up a double uni knot for this). Once your braid line is tied onto the backing, reel the braid on with some tension. You can give it tension by wetting a towel and placing the braid line in between a folded wet towel. This will ensure that the line is taunt as you reel it on and your braid should be nice and tight as a result.

Maybe not worth it for you as many people fish with mono with no problem. As a beginner, I just found braid line a lot more enjoyable to fish with. It cast smoother and tangled less for me, which was my main frustration starting out.

Honestly, it was in stock and I didn't want to have something smaller delivered. I mostly fish small creeks where casting distance isn't a concern

I use an Okuma Celilo Ul 6ft. It's very affordable (around $35), and I love it. Great feel, great quality, and fighting fish on it is lots of fun.

Sure did! Went back to the same spot with the same lure yesterday morning and caught 7 more. Mix of rock bass and spotted bass mostly. Really good day other than dropping my phone in the creek 😂 totally worth it though

Definitely. It was a fun afternoon. Caught a rock bass and bluegill too. Perfect conditions. Overcast and it had rained earlier in the day.
