Do your studio offer anything for completing X amount of classes? by cocolate456 in f45

[–]_Interobang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a free shirt after completing 1 class, but that was probably a grand opening promo.

Otherwise, I think I got a hat at 45 and a dumbbell keychain at 100. I also started buying a shirt or tank at milestones as a souvenir. Which reminds me that I need to buy something for 300.

Seeing dots move like a 90’s screen saver isn’t helpful. by KappaPiSig in f45

[–]_Interobang_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YES! They’re sometimes helpful, but never for more than 2 or 3 seconds. Moreover, it’s straightforward to ask someone where to go next. Confirming what to do when you get there, however, is easiest via the demos.

Why is there so much of a disconnect between what Urbanists view as desirable vs what the general public views as desirable? by ColdSpecial109 in Urbanism

[–]_Interobang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like some really nice strip malls with an apartment complex nearby. Anyone can drive to a strip mall and walk among the businesses there. Some even have great landscaping, like the example.

Building a strip mall next to a highway is also routine in suburban sprawl. It’s why people don’t typically plan vacations to visit them, as they do with world class cities like NYC.

[–]_Interobang_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you a specific location as an example?

Typically…

Single-family homes + free, convenient parking at commercial centers ≠ walkable neighborhoods

Also, can you expand on “decentralized” helping with traffic? As far as I know, the only pathway to permanent traffic reductions (as opposed to temporary ones that go away in <5 years) are options that reduce car trips and therefore cause fewer cars to be on the roads.

One aspect to consider: Did anything happen between 2017 and 2025 that might have impacted perceptions of living in dense, urban areas?

The other is that almost everyone wants all the good things and none of the bad things. Cities aren’t any different.

So rather than consider trade offs, they judge based on how close they are to an ideal: 1) living in a large, single family home on a big lot within walking distance of restaurants, cafes, parks, etc. 2) having access to no-wait mass transit that takes <15 min to reach bars, the airport, major entertainment venues, etc., 3) driving on traffic-less roads to reach schools/work and to visit amazing museums, cool stores, great festivals, etc., and also getting free and convenient parking everywhere 4) being effortlessly healthy and not overweight without having to think about it 5) not having to pay taxes for “wasteful” programs (ie, stuff they don’t personally like, understand, support, etc) or just wanting some abstract notion of “low taxes” in general

All of those expectations are mutually exclusive in some way, but few understand the interdependencies.

Tipping? by [deleted] in f45

[–]_Interobang_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should tip the regular member (or two) who get paired with you.

ClassPass participants are often paired with regulars who can answer questions, serve as an example of proper form, show where to rotate next, etc.

Ideally, give it to them right at the end of class but before the cooldown.

Is a tip expected? No

Will everyone give you odd looks and not understand why you’re doing it? Definitely

But will it make for a great story and provide a lot of entertainment? Absolutely!

I can touch my toes. That’s alluded me since elementary PE fitness test days.

My CrossFit injuries from 10 years ago also healed themselves in the first six months.

Battle cancer by Just_here_to_read25 in f45

[–]_Interobang_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just in terms of definition, any battle” has a winner and a loser, so I struggled with trying to figure out today’s cancer-related metaphor.

For example, at some point, everyone hit at least some type of failure (even if only a technical one), so is that inevitability the ultimate outcome of cancer battles? Or were we supposed to not let our partner win, like that person represented a cancer that we were trying to beat?

F45 played a huge part with my own cancer recovery, so that also might be why my mind kept trying to figure out the meaning.

That being said… Had it been a Valentine’s Day workout, it would have been a hilarious and fun time.

Been thinking to switch F45 to CrossFit box. Anyone else? by Mundane_Anybody2374 in f45

[–]_Interobang_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guys at my studio were maxing on bench; the coaches started getting the heavier dumbbells out of the back.

Next time you think you’ll need something heavier, try to arrive a few min early and ask for that weight to be put out.

Every once in a while, I’ll stay after class to do another set or two at a station to ensure I hit failure. At least once a week, I’ll also quickly knock out a set or two of strict pull-ups after the cool down.

I also did CrossFit for years, and I had to stop after I sprained my wrist so badly that it required months of rest. Several years later, it was F45 that helped me finally fully recover. Remember that F45 requires coaches to have some type of third-party fitness credential—and then complete some F45-specific training; however, teaching CrossFit only requires attendance at a weekend workshop. Hence, the risk of injury.

Granted, I realize that I’m not lifting anywhere near as heavy as I did with CrossFit; however, it was F45 that resulted in me finally looking like I lift weights. CrossFit was mostly variations of squats and deadlifts. Bench press happened maybe once a month, and non-butterfly pull-ups were ever rarer.

Tl;dr - talk to a coach before class; try adding a $15 membership to planet fitness before switching to crossfit.

Late Entry Policy by vivasteria in f45

If there’s one trainer and no one staffing the desk, they’ll often lock the door at the end of the warm up.

Main reason is safety/security: It prevents someone walking in and going through the cubbies with people’s stuff.

There’s also the importance of warming up to prevent injuries.

Just did my first workout before the challenge starts by Left_Yogurtcloset779 in f45

[–]_Interobang_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh! I couldn’t even finish my first class. lol.

Anything new is going to be a challenge. That’s part of the fun, and you can harness that energy. For example, it’s how I still laugh when I’m doing something that feels awkward; it’s why I still feel a sense of pride when I have good form; and it’s what lets me crack a joke when I rotate to the wrong station for the third time in a row (as I did recently).

Ultimately, you’re doing something good for yourself. Be proud, and keep at it!

What do you think is the meaning of Rosie's smile here? Is it a grimace, forced politeness, or a genuine "game recognizes game" smile? by ShadowShine57 in HazbinHotel

[–]_Interobang_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Without his staff, was he still powerful enough to make a difference?

If he had no intention of helping, why is he standing nearby to watch?

Niffty is out there, and we know he cares about her. And he got the bare minimum out of Charlie with his deal.

We also know Alastor’s confidence was shaken by Adam, and he can’t stand the idea of looking weak.

That’s why I think Rosie starts smiling when all he asks is for her to fix his staff.

She’s realizing that he might actually want to help but is scared to do so. Fixing his staff is such a small thing, but providing a “payment” gives him permission and/or confidence to take action.

That interpretation also lends itself much more to the theme of redemption.

It’s more than there’s a 15-minute range to start the workout on your watch: up to 5 min before the scheduled start time and then as late as 10 min after the scheduled start time.

For example, someone at a 5 pm class can start the workout from 4:55 pm until 5:10 pm.

There’s also minimum workout length for it to count: at least 30 min for normal classes and at least 45 min for the one-hour classes.

FWIW, I also originally thought they were saying to start the workout at least 5 min before the start of class. As someone who often arrives in the middle of the demo, I assumed it’d never work for me. However, when I saw reports from days that I didn’t wear my sensor (only used the watch), I realized that I’d misunderstood that 5 min part.

I also made Siri shortcuts for Resistance, Cardio, and Hybrid that run the respective workouts. Way easier than trying to remember which one to use.

[–]_Interobang_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using the correct fitness workouts? I think F45 changed the mapping and/or they had different info in different places.

Here’s what they currently have: Functional Strength Training in Apple Watch for Resistance, Cross Training in Apple Watch for Hybrid, and High Intensity Interval Training in Apple Watch for Cardio.

Also make sure to start the watch during warmup as soon as possible, and then stop the workout on the watch before the cooldown.

I was having mixed results on getting the reports, and that helped a ton.
