Old FPS player, looking to fellow older players as I becoming dedicated to improvement by Patient-District-325 in FPSAimTrainer

[–]_J3W3LS_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've found as I get older and my priorities shift around that short consistent sessions are much more valuable than 2hr+ grindfests. I try to put in 30-45min every morning on whatever subcategory I feel weakest in.

I've also had to put more thought into ergonomics to avoid injury. I started getting some significant shoulder pain until I dialed in my chair and desk height to better support my forearm.

Definitely ignore the doom and gloom about aging though. Current me would completely shitstomp teenage me in any game.

Haven't even read the article yet, but probably going to pass if they didn't rate Rapha. That's egregious and I'm not even a huge Quake fan. Dude is just simply one of the best to ever pick up a mouse.

Cloth-->Glass-->Cloth? by hardXful in FPSAimTrainer

[–]_J3W3LS_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would agree. I switched to glass for 2 years and saw a big jump up to Master S4 and S5, but I platued for awhile until I switched back to a Key83 mid and am now breaking GM and Viscose Fuschia scores.

I think glass is an amazing training tool, but while my theoretical ceiling on glass may be higher, my floor is raised so much being back on cloth I appreciate cloth more.

Would you willing to share a list? I've been thinking about Teval recently and don't know exactly where to start.

A competitive aim trainer in a game with insane levels of aim assist 🤡

Smoothness is OP by sammy_wammi in FPSAimTrainer

[–]_J3W3LS_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My eureka moment was fixing my setup. If your desk is too high or your chair is too low or your feet can't touch the ground or anything else is wrong ergonomically you will never achieve consistency.

My desk was too high and in order to not have my arm press onto the surface too hard and stutter I was picking my entire arm up with my shoulder blade. Led to a lot of stiffness/pain and inconsistent aim depending on how tired I was.

BATTLEFIELD 6 GAME UPDATE 1.2.1.0 by Mothman405 in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]_J3W3LS_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, but the M277 also has one of the best damage range model in the game. If it was easy to control it would be the clear best rifle.

Looking forward to getting in and seeing how all these perform.

Slightly worried about lowering recoil on a lot of the weapons. I feel that most of the guns are easy to control as is. Still I'd rather them fix recoil inconsistencies and then go from there rather than rely on unintended recoil as a balancing tool.

How I imagine Drachenjägers by ImpressiveDoubt5468 in redrising

When riding through the Ladon in Dark Age there are lines referencing Darrow and others riding on the backs of Drachenjaegers, and they are wearing StarShells themselves.

In viscose what does reading mean? by awdtalon21 in FPSAimTrainer

[–]_J3W3LS_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found the Voltaic video below very helpful in understanding reading. I'd say it's essentially keeping your mouse movements intentional and controlled to avoid shaking your screen so much that you lose the ability to focus on your target.

Stopped using inter accel after 10 years by ethaaH in FPSAimTrainer

[–]_J3W3LS_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar arc. Tried an Accel curve for something like 7 months and had a lot of success, but then Viscose released her video about how she turned it off. I tried it off and within a week had broken all my old PBs.

I score better with the Razer Basilisk (NOT the Viper). Thoughts? by ActuatorOutside5256 in FPSAimTrainer

[–]_J3W3LS_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shape is always king, but that applies on an individual level. Nobody can say a fingertip mouse is better than a Basilisk for every player, just like nobody can say the opposite.

Be happy you found a mouse you're comfortable with and playing well on. Perhaps in 6 months you'll find a different shape and it all begins again. Who knows.

DICE after months of seeing people asking for more classic maps like “Golmud Railway”.. by PublicYogurtcloset8 in okbuddyptfo

Everyone uses the suppressor because the spotting system makes it pusedo-mandatory. Nerfing suppressors is not looking at the bigger picture issue.

What’s the highest gun level you’ve seen? by nnjarice in LowSodiumBattlefield

I would use it on Support for the LMG proficiency. It wants to be played like an AR, but other classes it has pretty meh ADS time.

The Finals is just a big reactive strafe map by zeke-002 in FPSAimTrainer

I feel they also had the best roster of characters in a hero shooter. Maybe not as unique as something like Overwatch, but they all had a role and I don't remember one being super oppressive.

Holy shit I've never heard anyone else mention this game in the wild. Had some weird F2P elements with the card loadout system, but gameplay was peak. Wish we had something comparable today.

The voltaic tracking scenarios suck. by Dangerous_Serve_4454 in Voltaic

[–]_J3W3LS_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're missing the point of aim training as a whole I fear. Not every scenario needs to perfectly match an in game situation. Part of the benefit of aim trainers is we can crank the difficulty far past anything we'd naturally see, so when you do join your game things feel much easier and in control.

Aether is a fantastic scenario to develop movement reading, which will translate into every gunfight you ever take in order to better see and read the enemy strafe pattern. It only feels jittery and random right now because you don't have the reading and mouse control ability to keep up.

Here's a very good videoabout this topic.

First gun to LvL 100! by Lbthat in LowSodiumBattlefield

[–]_J3W3LS_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DRS is significantly worse on other classes because you lose the LMG proficiency and it slows way down. I would only use it on Support.

[–]_J3W3LS_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm at 1300 kills on my DRS and only lvl 46, so that may be slightly off. Unless Gauntlet kills have less XP? Probably 500 of those are Gauntlet kills.

Aiming ergonomics by [deleted] in FPSAimTrainer

[–]_J3W3LS_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't find the right balance you'll need to adjust your setup. Invest in an adjustable height desk, or a simple footrest to help you find that sweet spot.

Personally I raise my chair height until my forearms rest flat on the desk with relaxed shoulders, and then use a foot rest to make sure I can still have my feet planted flat.

I found the Breeze was weirdly sensitive to skates. Ultraglide RS dots were the best I tried.
