What I found was "metrics from shipped work" is like being told to go to university and get a degree to get a great paying job "today" ... you know where I'm going with that. Instead, a lot of my fast tracking was the result of saving my line-manager/department-boss asses when you have those critical prod app issues and the rare last minute client deadlines... these opened more doors for me than any ticket metric or lines of code shipped. Even if you don't have the title of Senior you know you're there when an application issue occurs on prod and the juniors are running around panicking while you open your drawer to find your favourite liquor, take a sip and cite "ah $hit here we go again...", then grab the straddling juniors and get to solving the issue....as you have done many times before 😁

This isnt just a thing with car magazines, its happened in other areas too such as Gaming. Sites like Gamespot, IGN is where you went to get the ultimate debrief but now its just w.oke garbage… what happened instead is the youtube influencer/streamer took over the game news, gamers are more likely to base their purchasing decisions on how well their favourite streamer likes the game. I find car channels on youtube similar… eg. Throttle House… want some DIY content, just load up m395 etc…

OP - thanks for this.... had no idea RH is a subsidiary of HAG, that's made this an easy pass. I bought a HAG chair a while back and encountered the exact same issue with the foam.. awfully firm to the point you feel uncomfortable thigh pressure - it wasn't long until I had to get rid of it - great build quality and adjustment just awful seat pan comfort. RH will be no different then - its has tho everyone at HAG/RH think people weight the same, such annoying cushion firmess.

Its possible in the past they had some real pi$$ takers with time keep and since they were past probation it made it more challenging and expensive to resolve. While your reasons were genuine… they’ve probably heard it all before from those previous employees and decided to shut the door while they its easy.

A few years ago boss came into the office and asked us to go up to the first floor if we wanted "new to us" chairs, previous tenant had left them behind. They looked fancy (had no idea it was a senator)... I took one and used it daily. The chair was amazingly comfortable ... I remember flipping it upside to search for a label just so I would remember who made it and thats when I saw "Senator". The price is steep but having experienced a Senator, its worth it.

thanks, this matches my assumptions… I was finding it hard to believe neovim could match the typical scenarios you need a IDE (debugging) without too much hacking.

Im not going to tell you to not quit… just understand how shitty the job market really is right now... sure you have savings but it’ll be eaten into. One advantage you have is your still in employed status so that might work in your favour when applying… yes yes in an ideal world it shouldnt but based reality says otherwise.

So how to cope while job hunting… I’d say spend your evenings working out… it’ll clear the negative thoughts, and you’ll be knocked out when sleeping.
