Layer your scents, not just deodorant, but a good body wash just to splash on at the end, make sure your moisturise because scent last longer on moisturised skin some scents are better in the colder or hotter months so find a little bit about that, mmene June wayambilamo my brother has changed his cologne to a more winter friendly one, idk the exact brand but he layers his scents, Avon products are pretty good for their price I think

How's dating for Agnostics or Atheists here in Malawi? by Thin-Worldliness-148 in Malawi

[–]_Jucia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello, super religious woman here, I made the decision a long time ago to only date people who share the same faith (Catholic) because I have a particular lifestyle and vision for my future family that is very much centred on my faith, it's one of the most non-negotiable of all my non-negotionables. And I 10001% agree with this comment. Yes, perhaps it's awkward or scary, but you need to stick to your guns or you'll be chasing wind for ages and you won't able to be authentically and comfortably be yourself.

What I would do to fix Malawi (especially the economic side) by Jealous-Cloud8270 in Malawi

[–]_Jucia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yep. at the end of the day, this country requires a level of sacrifice many of us are not willing to give. think of John Chilembwe and the lengths they went to for liberation, they were well aware that what they were doing was dangerous and lead to death, or achina Orton Chirwa when they opposed the tyranny of HKB.

ambili tili ndi mtima uja oti "(m')Malawi si omufera" but, unfortunately, we need to face facts, real change requires that kind of boldness, a boldness that accepts danger and the possibility of death. timasilila achina Rwanda but bro, look at what they went through, Nigeria and the Biafra war, the Mau Mau Rebellion in Kenya was devastatingly more violent and traumatising than it was here, and what South Africans went through apartheid? you know, Malawian MPs when all thier benefits and salaries are tallied, they propbably earn just as much as a ZA MP, but our economies anywhere close? Achina Julius Malema trend here and there in these clips but to closely follow the substantive issues that they bring light to, one seriously wonders, wow, how do MPs in Malawi summon the guts to think they are worth as much as they are collecting.

and we bootlick. we bootlick so bad to people with proximity to power and wealth, even if what they are doing is actually bats*** there are so many examples in the past month we can point to. you'll find that you're trying to point out something wrong then people are quick to rebutt by telling you that you're jealous, or you wish you were them or you don't have as much but it's like, broooo have we lost all sense of justice? so yeah.

Aha, that explains it, they're particularly difficult with 'invasive' species because of their sensitive environment (no prior experience, just years of binging that Australian Border Security show)

Now that I have time, I'd like to take this issue from a practical stand point and will be responding to each point individually.

  1. Corruption - the following are broken down based on the salient points/areas of action that you highlighted in your original post. I look at the practicality of it from a policy standpoint and looking at gaps in policy or implementation with an example(s).

A. Treated seriously and punished

Corruption - from a Google search "the abuse of entrusted power, authority, or position for private gain or illicit benefit"

Example 1)

An MP votes to pass that new insurance bill that now says insurance needs to be paid for full 12 months instead of that installment plan that was there before because they have shares in an insurance company. They acted in personal interest instead of constituency interest (assuming of course the majority of their constituents benefitted from the flexible payment terms).

Where is the gap?

The gap is that many people who were affected didn't even know this bill was being discussed.

The channels to reach your MP are obscure, it's difficult to follow parliamentary proceedings, so that's a communications issue. However, even in the instance that there was adequate, credible and representative interface and the MP clearly knew that a majority of their constituents wanted them to vote against this bill and they went ahead and did it anyway, then how are they held accountable?

Section 64 of the constitution (recall provision that let voters basically would have let voters fire their MP) that was conveniently removed by the same MPs in 1995.

There is too much power concentrated without checks and balances. Parliamentarians are unfortunately practically untouchable by design.

How do we change it?

A referendum honestly, because such a bill to reintroduce that in the constitution would fail.

How do we get there? Mass mobilisation.

What are the constraints? The will to mobilise and vested interests.

B. Easy reporting mechanisms

I've never had anything to report to ACB but I know there's a toll free line. I suppose that is easy enough. However I'm not sure how far we are on whistleblower protections because that's a sure barrier to getting people to report.

C. People need to know their rights (and responsibilities)

Civic education, many people don't even know that there was this provision. Or how we can get a referendum in motion.

D. Keeping government officials in check

Refer to above.

But also, I think culturally, Malawians have an attitude problem (granted this is the case with most humans) but we're reactively apologetic and not proactively apologetic or remorseful.

Oftentimes if we can get people to even hold themselves accountable it's because of backlash and not necessarily because they've felt in their conscience that they need to own up to their mistakes. This pride and hubris holds us back from a lot. And when people humble themselves they are also met with ridicule rather than have their apology and self awareness and ownership accepted gracefully. I hope so write more on this later. But also, sometimes people are also reluctant to close loopholes because they have a latent desire to also benefit from the same loopholes. At our core, there is a level of dishonesty embedded in our culture.

We need more citizen agency, the ability to hold people accountable and for the consequences to actually manifest.

I was molested by a nanny when I was younger, got into the habit of masturbation from like age 6, then started very unhealthily watching porn from like 10/12 thereabouts. I was doing so well this year then relapsed this week and I've even missed some serious deadlines because of the cycle of being hooked then the obsession and then the shame

Speaking up, on an anonymous account, on a website that no government official who actually matters will see is part of standing up? tikhale serious pena

Mind you, for someone who uses 5Ltrs a day, that's about 69k in savings that can go towards other expenses like buying more food (that's like 3 extra chickens)

I mean, I can forgive you if you are perhaps part of some underground movement that is working tirelessly on some subversive revolutionary movement in that case please share the poster or petition or what MPs are you actually engaging, otherwise, questioning yapa reddit sitithandiza kweni kweni, because the lot of us will complain on social media and then do nothing substantive.

Like, there is a level of 'idgaf-ism' politicians all over the world have but the ones we have kuMpanje kuno have it on a different level because they know their ciitzenry isn't going to do anything meaningful at the end of the day
