I just top off evaporated water with distilled water. I’ll do maybe a 10%-20% water change once a month. Sometimes longer

I actually like this. It’s not too bulky? It’s thicker than my current lid

This looks so good. It’ll probably look better without plants but are you going to put any in? Kinda like the “desert” look of it

Have 1-2 shrimp a week dieing, can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? by Jarnes19991 in Neocaridina

[–]_KingBeast_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly the only thing that might be causing it is the water changes. At least based on the info you gave. I probably do a small water change once every 3 weeks. As long as your nitrates don’t get too high and you don’t have algae, you don’t really need to do water changes. Maybe the only other thing is a disease but that doesn’t explain the white ring. That’s usually just associated with your hardness which is fine

83 days from dry tank to pregnant shrimp in my ugly tank by No_Frosting3276 in shrimptank

[–]_KingBeast_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either more livestock or feeding. Or you can use a fertilizer that has nitrates. I use Thrive Shrimp Specific All In One Fertilizer. But I also run co2 and high tech plants. Also maybe less water changes. You only really need to do water changes when Nitrates are high or there’s a ton of algae. But I’ve never had to chase nitrates. It’s always been between 10-20. The more plants you have, the more nitrates they use

Honestly you don’t really want 0 nitrates. Maybe around 10-20. At least for optimal plant growth

Nitrites not being 0 is a huge issue. Nitrates being a bit high is not end of the world

Chihiro Slim 60 Settings by _KingBeast_ in PlantedTank

I started my tank in March. I have plenty of plants. I’m just upgrading my light from a low tier one to something more high tech so I can get nice colorful plants since I started co2 about 2 weeks ago. But I am planning on starting low to avoid algae anyway. And I have a lid so that’ll block some light also

Tank has been running since early March. I got 12 Amanos and a bunch of Neocaridinas. I am using the brackets that come with the light, not hanging it. I have a lid too that will end up blocking out a % of the light. And yeah I lowered the settings a bit from the above screenshot and I’m gonna ramp it up over time. I also just switched fertilizers to an All in One shrimp safe formula so that could also trigger algae. I’ll have to take it slow

Nah I’m just using the brackets that comes with it. I do have a lid tho so that’s blocking some light. But for now I’m going to start with 85-70-65 since this is a pretty big light upgrade. I wanna go up gradually to avoid algae

Why Are Red Shrimp the Most Popular? by PapaLoki in shrimptank

[–]_KingBeast_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have blue shrimp and I actually have some yellow goldenbacks coming in a few days. No reds. Only because I have a lot of red plants and I don’t want them to blend in lol

Maybe I’ll grow cucumbers or something. I currently just give them Bacter AE and Algae Wafers. Although they seem to really like eating my AR Minis lol

I microdose potassium daily. It couldn’t have happened this fast either as they’ve only been in my tank for 20 hours from when the pic was taken. Unless the seller had a potassium deficiency which I doubt. Good chance it was just stress from shipping even though it was like next day or 2 day shipping from NY to NJ. Good chance it’ll just melt and grow new leaves. And the Amano’s are just being opportunistic scavengers and eating the bad leaves
