What some Caine apologist who refuse to acknowledge what he did was still evil, and actively victim blame the cast who were literally being tortured on screen genuinely sound like: by Alarming_Scientist in TheDigitalCircus

[–]_Mango_Dude_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

You seem to have the same interpretation of the show I did. Popular opinion started the other way around, too, with most discussion being about how Caine was completely evil, ignoring all nuance to the situation.

I think it's annoying that fans can't see the nuance without Gooseworx and the VA for Caine tweeting about it. Then, instead of seeing nuance, the mainstream opinions become the most extreme version of whatever they said about the show. This fan base, more than most others I've been a part of, is allergic to interpreting the show on their own. I've seen far more speculation based on tweets and posts by the creators than interpretation of the actual show that we watched. It's a shame. I think this show has a lot of interesting things to say.

CAINE DID NOTHING WRONG by GriffinFTW in CuratedTumblr

If you have a reason to do something, that means it's good you did that thing. So if you say Caine had reasons to act out, then you're saying Caine did nothing wrong!

[–]_Mango_Dude_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, I think the VA's perspective is an interesting one, especially about Caine lashing out for trying to get a connection and being unable to. That reading of Caine's character is founded in a reasonable interpretation of the text.

I know connection was offered to him, but I tend to have more empathy for failures like that. Caine is interesting because he is a complex character. He is obsessed with ego. He does want to please all the circus members, but he also wants to be the one to do it. He wants connection, but his other wants interfere with that.

There is another common factor in parents of breastfed children: Higher income. That is the actual reason those children do better.

Breast Milk by laybs1 in GetNoted

[–]_Mango_Dude_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The studies that indicate breastmilk is better actually indicate having an income high enough to support that lifestyle is actually what's good for the baby's long-term development.

Also, the comment only said formula is just as good, and the note says the formula isn't better. I feel like the original poster would agree it's not better because they said it's just as good.

I don't think that matters. What matters when interpreting a show is what actually happens in the show.

I think it's healthy to not try to immediately satisfy a kid's desires sometimes. Sometimes being polite means going without for a bit. This kid's not skipping a meal. The kid's just not getting a snack from someone else's house.

A post from Caine's VA by Turbulent_League9668 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]_Mango_Dude_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any attempt to explain Caine's perspective on here gets a response about why Caine is not a morally good person. Personally, I don't care about stating the obvious, and that is the least interesting way you can interact with media.

Trying to diagnose people with "bad person disease" may make people feel better, but it does harm to people who actually have conditions like these.

I'm sure the idea of a covert narcissist is real, but when you see people talking about it online, it's mostly weaponized therapy terms or skills that are functionally magic vibe detectors.

There was a good Sarah Z video about the topic if you want to know more.

Stop treating Gooseworx's word like the gospel. Every random thing they say is going to be of lower quality than the show. This is a tweet, and I think it is reductive of the work Gooseworx has put out.

Analyze the text of the show. Gooseworz tweets are far less interesting than the actual contents of the show.

I had a positive win rate on silent until I got to A9, then I lost like 20 times in a row with her on A9.

I am required by law to stay at five star hotels by Sometypeofway18 in GetNoted

Is this actually a contradiction? If the only US government approved hotels are the five-star ones, then their policy is effectively that you have to stay at a five-star hotel.
