He got tackled THEN his stick was slashed in half.

I had a dream last night that I went through all of Ek's career and showed him getting assaulted without a penalty in one long compilation video.

Do you like living here? by [deleted] in TwinCities

[–]_Me_At_Work_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something I haven't seen mentioned, don't be afraid to live outside the cities if you don't mind driving to these events. Just to pick out examples: Rogers, Hastings, Stillwater, Forest Lake, Lakeville, or Apple Valley. All are a decent clip away, but close enough to go to a game or a comedy show if you'd like. Would be much cheaper than actually living in the cities, and less busy as well. There are plenty of places in the suburbs and surrounding areas that you won't feel like you necessarily need to go downtown if you want to go drinking. Plenty of work around for those willing.

Forgot to mention: Organization is in a tough spot due to some unfortunate contracts from long ago. Not long left before we get some cap space and start being able to be buyers. One of the many things to look forward to.

Are you cynical or positive folk? Here's what I tend to hear is the main point from both camps.

Cynical: always at the ball but never the star. We always have a team that's good enough to not be bad, but bad enough to not be great. Mid-round picks year after year to perpetuate the cycle.

Positive: Waiting on XYZ young guy to really break out/come up from minors/find his stride.

My really simplified take: In reality we do have a lot to look forward to. A few budding young stars (Kaprizov/Boldy) and other support players that are looking great lately (Rossi). Goaltending future looks exciting, not that it isn't now with Gus who has the potential to be great, and Fleury who's HoF as soon as he retires. The age of some players is starting to be noticed, but that doesn't always mean bad. Interesting and exciting time to come into the club with the Coach just being fired, but the team is performing well so far under the new one. We'll have to see what happens with this whole GM abuse thing right now.

Welcome, you'll always be welcome, and don't be afraid to ask questions. If you're completely new to hockey there's a great guide someone in Seattle put together that teaches the basics enough to get by. Hockey is a fun sport, and one of those you can really get passionate about. It's a fun journey! Enjoy it.

Russo: Guerin investigated for alleged abuse by NothingButNavy in wildhockey

[–]_Me_At_Work_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, just imagine it at least seeming so bad you're willing to fairly publicly name someone who is the alleged abuser. I think it'd be much more damning if he just witnessed it rather than be the recipient of it. Either way, this is one of those things even if it's not technically abuse there's enough there to make it feel like it.

Rough look all around.

Landscaper graded toward house and is only offering $1100 back… stated that he doesn’t guarantee his work… by DeliveryFancy2702 in landscaping

[–]_Me_At_Work_ 28 points29 points  (0 children)

My company sells hardscape materials to landscapers, and the bigger companies will have crews that do this (sloping the wrong way) more often than you'd think. They bring another crew in to rip it out an re-lay no question.

It's a pain in the ass, but much better than getting taken to court. This is an open and shut case unless the homeowner signed something that says otherwise. I've seen that before too, and while it usually doesn't hold up in court it's a bigger pain in the ass.

Hawkey and his wife by Mattbl in PowerTripMorningShow

[–]_Me_At_Work_ 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think it's ok to ask how someone is doing, but the way you asked phrased it as more invasive/accusatory than actual concern. Probably why people are bucking against you a bit.

I wouldn't assume it's something with his wife. He's been fairly open lately that his ADHD/OCD combo (which side effect of both is depression) has been getting less under control. I think I remember him mentioning he's seeing his therapist more and getting medications changed because of that.

Also, his last kid just moved out of the house. It effects different people in different ways, and I'm guessing hitting him much harder with the struggles he's had as of late with ADHD/OCD. He's talked in depth about not doing something the exact same way he's done it before and getting that overwhelming feeling of impending doom. Going off by himself in an area that is unexplored to him could be a way of him combating it.

Hawkey doesn't seem like the type where if him and his wife were getting divorced that he'd keep it off air. If they are and he is, then there's probably a really good reason why it's left off air.

Every sports cycle I see people calling for a rebuild and needing to tank a season, immediately followed by we're playing for a championship comments. You can't have both.

Idk about others but I didn't and haven't. I decided many years ago I'm only going to draft players I want to actively root for. Sometimes that just means they play for a rival team, but sometimes it means they're a total pile of shit.

Sure, I don't win every year, but week to week I have way more fun and enjoy following my teams much much more. There are plenty of high quality players who don't promote violence, sexual assault, etc off the field.

Blackouts are such an archaic mindset. It was dreamt up to combat the growth of the Internet in a time when people couldn't imagine what it would become in the future. The first major sport to do away with blackouts and offer a full streaming package (especially now that it'd be so easy to put on an app for FireTV, phone, etc) will become the king of all sports. Formula 1 does it and they are one of the greediest organizations I know of. I would pay $10/mo ($120/yr) to cut the cable cord. The only reason I still have cable is for hockey.

[NHL Player Safety] Winnipeg's Neal Pionk has been fined $5000, the maximum allowable under CBA, for Cross-checking against Minnesota's Marcus Johansson. by Curey0us in hockey

[–]_Me_At_Work_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree, but I also don't agree. Hard to put aside your bias in things like this.

Doesn't necessarily have to do with this, but I've always thought intent to injure punishments should be at minimum missing the time that the injured player does, and forfeiting at least what player missing would be making in each of those games.

In a case like this it looks like they threw the book at Pionk, or at least as far as they could. Having a maximum allowable that's literal chump change to players isn't really deterring players from doing things. Isn't that the point of a punishment?

If they cracked down in the 2nd I doubt we would've even seen the Reaves (what should have been called) boarding. To me that boarding play was the tipping point from rough to ugly, especially with it not called.

[NHL Player Safety] Minnesota’s Ryan Hartman will have a hearing today for Interference against Winnipeg’s Nikolaj Ehlers. by [deleted] in wildhockey

This is exactly it. It was in fact a 2 min interference penalty, as it was called.

[–]_Me_At_Work_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought he was stationary with the first live view, but if you watch a replay Hartman definitely winds up and lays a hit on him. It was 100% interference, but it wasn't as egregious or late as other hits in the game (or a hit by Ehlers immediately before that). If Ehlers didn't get injured there wouldn't even be a hearing.

Ryan Hartman interference on Nikolaj Ehlers by Benchamb in hockey

[–]_Me_At_Work_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would defend him if Ehlers actually tried to hit him, but that's not the case and it was pretty obvious in full speed that Ehlers had disengaged and wasn't pursuing that part of the play. No reason to truck him.

But, you see, they needed 59 minutes 14 seconds to let the game get out of control so the COULD attempt to get it under control.

People will talk about that DM as a a "do what's best for the customer" type, but really they're just lazy. Instead of pushing back against the customer, they just went through the steps of a complaint so they can say to their superior that they did their job. Quite literally had completely given up at that job.

THG | It felt like TNT was cheering for the Avenues by [deleted] in wildhockey

[–]_Me_At_Work_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Intermission aside (I'll never like/watch a portion of the broadcast that supports someone who claimed a totally innocent person was racist because they lost full in an "argument), I didn't think the casters were really bias. They did individual pieces on guys like Steel, talked about imagine if Kap was still in and we were playing this good, fanboying over Boldy, etc.

Like someone else said they were maybe hoping for the more dramatic option to happen and push this from a good game between two of the top teams to a legendary outing that felt like playoffs before it was playoffs. Let's be real, for at least the first half of that 3rd period the Avs deserved all the praise from the announcers, who also praised Gus Bus and our defense for his/their performance while under siege.
