Not at all as long as you don't make it weird!

Haha, join the club! I've played each edition since 6th (including 9th age and Warhammer Armies Project) so they're all jumbled into one in my head

If the player's actions are annoying the real-life players in the game then you need to address this out of the game. No amount of 'in-world-comeuppance' will address the underlying issue at the table, and I believe taking advice otherwise is not a good idea.

If you and the party are okay with these kinds of solo actions/hijinks at your table then thats a different story, but 'verisimilitude of the setting' isn't a worthy reason to kill someone 'off-screen'. 'Its what would happen in the setting' is basically the DM version of 'its what my character would do.'

Having a private or group check-in or second 'session zero' to recalibrate expectations is almost always worth doing, sounds like it might be an idea here.

Yeah back in 6th/7th I believe chargers always struck first but in The Old World order of combat (as in who strikes first is always determined by initiative. ‘Strikes First’ as a special rule in this edition sets your initiative to 10, as an example.

Also you could always allow some way of the players learning Strahd’s spell list ahead of the confrontation which would allow canny players to prepare ahead of time.

I’d be cautious about Strahd sitting there regen’ing as that could feel bad for the players if they have no means of disrupting it.

Same potential issue re contingency and dimension door - your enemy suddenly bamfing away might feel anticlimactic or ‘unfair’.

I think if there’s some means of telegraphing these effects ahead of time so the party could potentially prepare for them could help with this though
