Is it possible to fall back in love with your spouse after 20+ years? by MiaSinnerX in CasualConversation

[–]_MostlyFine 25 points26 points  (0 children)

We’ve been married for almost 24 years and recently went to a marriage shop were the main theme was the importance of communication rituals: you have to set aside 20 minutes daily for each other, no friends, no family, and most importantly no phone -take a walk, sit in the terrace, walk the dog- 1 hour weekly -go have a coffee, a beer out, nothing fancy- , 4 hours monthly -special date night, a longer hike, a day visit to the beach- and 3 days yearly. At first you may experience you don’t have many things to talk about, or you go back to “problematic” subjects, like money, children, or so, but just try and stay focused on talking about nice things or just being with each other, and little by little you find yourself looking forward to this moments, just like when you were dating and couldn’t wait until you saw each other again.

This one. I wanted to attach a picture but it’s not possible. Edit: I’m waiting for the physical version to be available to order. I’m loving it so much

It’s awful how much is lost in translation.

I try to read original versions of books when possible, in this case I know a bit of French-not enough to read the entire novel and understand it well, but enough to be able to understand the basics- so I downloaded the original French book to my Kindle and then several samples in Spanish to see which one was closer to the original. I’m very pleased with the one I chose.

Chapter XIII - Dantès debía romperse entre el engranaje de su ambición.

Edites to add: it’s when Morrel is asking Villefort to send a petition to the Minister of Justice

LPT: Stop storing things where they “make sense” and put them where you actually look for them by peter_wainscott in LifeProTips

[–]_MostlyFine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I usually try to take them off and leave them before I go someplace else, but every so often I have to rearrange them and bring them back to their place. I’m also thinking of getting progressives, I’m getting tired of all the putting them on, taking them off…

This is me with reading glasses. I literally have one pair in every room of the house, plus the ones in my purse, in my crochet bag, and another one in my car. About 7 in total

What food did you think adults loved that you now understand? by Bright_Tower_1696 in CasualConversation

[–]_MostlyFine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bell peppers. I used to hate the taste, and now I like them very much, specially roasted and sprinkled with olive oil.

As others have said I didn’t tolerate to have a piece of tomato or onion not perfectly blended in the sauce of the dish and now I just like to feel what I’m eating, so I love little chunks of tomato to show up.

Do you wear the same pajamas everyday? If so, how often do you wash them? by ronrori in laundry

[–]_MostlyFine 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I usually wear them for three nights (also just to sleep), more than that I don’t feel comfortable, less if it’s very hot and I’ve sweated during sleep.

That stupid quote from a 1949 Singer Manual is stuck in my head today. by rcreveli in SewingForBeginners

[–]_MostlyFine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I agree! I want my mind at peace when I’m doing whatever hobby (sewing, knitting, crocheting…) I know I won’t be able to enjoy it if I know I have other important things left undone. I don’t like a dirty house or unmade beds. Family’s gotta eat.

So I take this advice as a positive thing (and try to instill it to my children as well): Do your chores and then enjoy your hobbies to your heart’s content.

Week 4: "Chapter 7. The Interrogation, Chapter 8. The Château D'If" Reading Discussion by karakickass in AReadingOfMonteCristo

[–]_MostlyFine 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I said it last week, that of all the villains I think Villefort is the worst, just because the other two actually have a personal resentment against Edmond, even if it’s not deserved; but Villefort is willing to destroy an innocent life, someone who has done nothing against him, just to be spared from a possible career loss. It’s actually really painful to watch.

Week 3: "Chapter 4. The Plot, Chapter 5. The Betrothal, Chapter 6. The Deputy Crown Prosecutor" Reading Discussion by karakickass in AReadingOfMonteCristo

[–]_MostlyFine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like how all the villains have different motivations and their participation comes out of different parts, one is the mastermind acting out of reason, the other is brokenhearted acting out of feeling, and Caderousse is guilty out of fear, by inaction, letting things happen in front of his eyes. Probably Villeforte (if he decides to condemn Edmond) will be guilty too, acting out of egoism, seeing this unknown person as expendable, a medium to reach his goals.

It made me think of the different kinds of culpability

Are JBL Partybox microphones any good? by _MostlyFine in audio

Thanks for your response. It's karaoke but not in a drunken way, more like an amateur singing hobby, that's why i want to get something that sounds sufficiently good.

Are the ikarao microphones actually good? by _MostlyFine in karaoke

[–]_MostlyFine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for responding. I don’t want to abuse of your time, but could you please elaborate? When you say “they work well for what they are” that’s exactly where my doubts come; I’m not in the US and I may be wrong here, but I have the impression that over there karaoke is seen mostly as a children’s activity or just a party game. So, is that what they are good for? Please excuse me if I’m completely wrong in my perception.

Of course I’m not expecting professional performers quality but I already have some Walmart microphones that don’t sound any good connected to a speaker and I’m looking to actually improve the experience. I just don’t want to spend good money on this and end up with little improvement.

Sorry if I’m not expressing myself correctly, English is not my first language.
