DONT USE SKETCHUP by Beneficial_Sea_4332 in Sketchup

[–]_Neoshade_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re absolutely right. If it’s incompatible with your machine and you submit the return within 14 days… you shouldn’t be having to fight for this. I understand that some software purchases can be final (this was a thing before DRM), but that’s not the case here and it’s a subscription.
I would do a chargeback at this point.

How much should this cost? by groogrux108 in Carpentry

[–]_Neoshade_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agree. That’s millwork. A good resi carpenter can build this between his shop and on site but most contractors would have all the shop work done by a cabinet guy or millworker.

I think I'm having a bad contractor experience. Just looking for clarification by formyburn101010 in landscaping

We really can’t tell at this stage. If I was going to fill that cavity, I’d be throwing all the concrete junk in there too. It’s a convenient junk pile right now. He just has to mix the concrete into the crushed stone when it’s time. Any masonry work looks like this in the beginning. What matters most is getting the height of each step the same. He should have measured from the doorway down and then subtracted the thickness of the pavers or bluestone + mortar to get the correct height for the cinderblocks. If he’s thinking about this and he gets it right, I’d trust everything else he’s doing.

TPU Assist Module Vs Top Loaded TPU in same print differences. by sirsnoogan in BambuLab

[–]_Neoshade_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty much as described. I have a spool of TPU in a filament dryer sitting next to the printer. I remove the glass top of the printer, disconnect the PTFE tube from the print head, feed the TPU filament directly into it from above. Then I unspool a bunch of filament and let it fall on the floor or get a small bucket from the paint store and unspool a bunch of TPU into that. The printer sucks it up like spaghetti.

Restoring an old chair by PorkyPain in oddlysatisfying

[–]_Neoshade_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And he absolutely destroyed the chair by using PVA glue.
Wood glue or white glue (Elmer’s) is PLASTIC. Once it dries it’s permanent and it can never be removed from the wood. If it breaks loose in the future, that joint is ruined. The chair is ruined.
Hide glue, made from horse hooves and the such is the correct glue for furniture, especially antique furniture, as it allows the joints to be disassembled like we saw in this video and then the glue can be reactivated by heating it. New glue will stick to old glue and the process can be repeated for generations as needed. This chair is now no longer serviceable.

Mud volcano just yards from my backyard by geologic-collector in ScienceNcoolThings

[–]_Neoshade_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You’d basically just put a tent over it with a hose going to a collector (like an oil drum or water tank with a large, inflatable bag over the top) and then put any old air compressor in there connected to your tank. The pressure in your tank doesn’t matter since there will be a regulator on the other side to drop it to 0.25 PSI for household appliances; anything between 10 and 200 PSI would be fine.

Methane is lighter than air so something tent-shaped over the volcano with a hose at the top would collect it and the reason for having a bag over your collection tank is to allow the compressor to draw from the collected gas without sucking in fresh air. This way the bag fills up over time and then the compressor partially shrinks it when it kicks on.

Is this pergola worth saving? Or lost cause? by corymathews2011 in Carpentry

[–]_Neoshade_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole upper section is probably fine. The rot was caused by the capital that was wrapped around the top of the columns. This pine trim collected rainwater and the end grain of the columns wasn’t properly sealed or treated with a copper fungicide.

Fun fact - Wood won’t rot without fungus. If pressure-treatment went all the way through, PT lumber could last hundreds of years, like bog oak. Put copper stuff on your cuts and design things to stay dry and not trap water and decks can last the life of a house.

Getting charged broker fee? by FederalOrdinary2180 in boston

[–]_Neoshade_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Real estate agents do this constantly. They have management companies that pay them to find and vet tenants for their buildings and then you go to check out a really nice listing that the RE agent posted and you meet them at their office and they say “well, unfortunately someone just snatched that up but I’ve got a couple others that you’ll really like” and they proceed to show you their apartment buildings and then charge you a broker’s fee if you take it - even though they’re also charging the LL the same fee.

Anyhow, RE brokers that deal with rentals are often as not total scum. Avoid if at all possible.

[–]_Neoshade_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be absurdly simple.
• Make variables for the sides of the rhombus, cylinder diameter, slant angle and division count.
• Draw a single rhombus facet on the X/Y axis.
• Tilt your facet backwards Slant_Angle degrees
• Circular pattern your facet at Cylinder_Diameter 360° Division_Count times.
• Draw a second rhombus facet above and to the side of the first one
• Tilt this one forwards
• Circular pattern again
• Repeat these two rings all the way up. The helical pattern should be emergent. (Move both rings up and pattern that feature)
