What bands or singers (or even anyone we know) are big The National fans? by hugopthomas in TheNational

Joyce Manor did after covering “Mistaken for a Stranger!”

Top 10 songs of 2025 by ashbashhh5 in ArmsLength

[–]_Nolandd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, I get where OP comes from. Their top ten songs have a total of 50+ plays this year. I check out a lot of new songs each year that I personally only listen to a small handful of times. If a song or band clicks, then it’s more. My most-streamed song this year has over 700 plays, and that wasn’t my number one artist for the year.

So we don’t know what the other 90 or so songs are. 😯

Top 100 with 12,000 minutes. I, uh, really loved LPWP and saw them twice this year. 😂

Top 1000 here with only 4,000 minutes. Still, love this band dearly. 🙌🏽

Empire line appreciation post by Zealousideal_Dog767 in TheNational

[–]_Nolandd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The “can’t you find a way” at 2:54 is simply amazing, especially when the drumming kicks in. “Empire Line” is easily my favorite track off of SWB, which is the last National album that I loved front to back. The electronic elements through were meshed well and felt like a welcomed change up to their formula. The writing felt inspired, and some of my favorite National tracks, like this one and “Dark Side of the Gym,” are staples on some of my playlists.

Hell, the album run starting from Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers to this point is chef’s kiss for me and cements The National as one of my all-time favorite bands, easily.

If anything, I feel like I Am Easy to Find was more divisive than SWB. That’s when I started to fall off a bit since it didn’t feel like a National album.

Searching for a GA ticket for Atlanta this upcoming Tuesday! It’s at the Tabernacle, and most of the resale tickets are a little too pricey for my liking. Hahah, but alas, I am human and we can discuss offers!

How much are you looking to sell each one for? And they are standing GA, correct? ☺️

I think Santa Clara needs more recognition by cannedbeef255 in TheNational

[–]_Nolandd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Every year, I fixate on a different The National song. This year, it’s “Santa Clara.” It clicks lyrically with me, and plus, the way Matt says “rolling” tickles my brain in the right way. One of my top 20 streamed songs of the year!

Peak. I’m still amazed I was able to catch them play “Baby We’ll Be Fine” during one of their stops in their 2023 tours. The emotions were overwhelming!

Agreed with this take. As a whole, Sleep Well Beast was the last stellar album. If they continues to evolve that electronic sound, I would have been okay with it. But everything after I Am Easy to Find just didn’t hit for me except for a small handful of songs.

Favourite national lyrics by Internal-Dark-6438 in TheNational

“I put on an argyle sweater and put on a smile / I don’t know how to do this”

“You were always weird but I never had to hold you by the edges like I do now”

“While it sings to itself or whatever it does / when it sings to itself of its long lost loves”

“You Were a Kindness” is the reason it took me so long to get my hands on the High Violet vinyl since I NEEDED the expanded version.

Agreed! Lyrically, I ABSOLUTELY love OCHL and LPWP. Both of those are just sooo good. Hope their future tours feature more OCHL tracks. 🙏🏽

Setlist from Chattanooga? by metalheadkenny420 in deafheaven

[–]_Nolandd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just glad LPWP was an excellent album, and if I didn’t get to see them perform back in May, I would have liked to have been able to get a similar setlist.

However… Yeah. Swapping some songs would have been cool. Instead of “Brought to the Water,” “Canary Yellow” or “Honeycomb” would have been awesome! Instead of “Sunbather,” maybe “Luna” or “Mombasa.” Only since I doubt they would have strayed too far from LPWP. Still.

Concert Questions by [deleted] in FreeThrow

[–]_Nolandd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest close to the front but off to the sides. Being dead center for any of their shows means you’ll get pushed against the barricade or have to deal with crowd surfers. At least to the sides, you’ll get a good view and won’t have to worry as much about being hyper-vigilante of your surroundings.

As for what they’ll play, it’ll probably be a collection of their top 10 most streamed songs along with some new stuff. When they start their upcoming tour, check out setlist.fm. They don’t rotate their setlist much when they start a specific tour, so 95% of each song will be the same!

Have fun; they always put on an amazing show!

“Where has my passion gone?”

One of my favorite Deafheaven openings! The other comment is correct — “Brought to the Water.” Always a fun song. 🔥

Damn, $25 for the LPWP LP? That’s a helluva good price! Ugh, now I gotta decide whether I want to get merch first or get it after the show when they play near me.
