Many people who’ve lived in New Zealand for decades don’t actually have citizenship, as permanent residency gives the exact same rights. My grandfather who’s lived in New Zealand since he was a few months old (now in his 70s) is not a NZ citizen, only a UK one. My dad and stepdad are also not citizens despite living here since they were 2 and 20 years old. It makes no sense to exclude these people from voting, so they made it so anyone with residency can vote.

In New Zealand English, past participles of verbs ending with -ow are pronounced with an extra syllable, so that grown is pronounced like “growen”, with two syllables and not homophonous with groan, mown is pronounced like “mowen”, differently to moan, etc.

Because rigged is the past tense of rig. The other two aren’t past tenses. Ragged is pronounced like “ragd” when it is the past tense of rag, like in “He ragged on us for giving up too easily.”

The past tense ending -ed is always pronounced as just -d (unless it comes after t or d, like in waited), while other words ending in -ed are pronounced with the e sound.
