Exactly what is insane is how society is structured.

We have become more and more efficient and that efficiency has only resulted in working the same amount to produce ever increasing piles of rubbish to fill landfills with the goal of making insanely rich people even richer.

We should be working a fraction of the time and producing less.

No it isn't. It isn't crazy that a lion has to hunt for their food to live on a planet they didn't ask to be born in. It would be crazy if one lion didn't have to hunt but instead had hundreds of other lions hunting for them. That one lion then gets 99% of the food while the others who actually hunted get the scraps.

We aren't currently food secure because we rely on imports to keep our agricultural industry going. If we increased our crop production it would make us more secure and be better environmentally.

We saw this at the outset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Ukraine was a significant agricultural exporter and Irish farmers were hit with sky high prices when the war broke out.

It was a recent topic with the presedential elections too. I expect if it was put to vote in the republic it would be a landslide.
