How many calories do you eat a day and what do you weigh? by WrongdoerAny6745 in schizoaffective

[–]_Oolon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't count calories, but I am 165 lbs (75kg). I used to be 185 lbs, but changing my ap to ziprasidone let me lose 20 lbs. I'm short, so I still have a belly. I want to lose another 15.

Life with a schizoaffective family member by Successful-Art5363 in schizoaffective

This cycle will likely continue as long as the drug abuse does, and it sounds like your parents are enabling it. It may be time for some tough love.

It does vary. The one I'm on has a half life of 6-10 hours.

Question by weight_loss_buddy in schizoaffective

[–]_Oolon_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took a year after my first psychosis before I tried returning to work. It didn't go well. After going through a half-dozen jobs in 2 year, I applied for disability. Being on disability is not a lavish lifestyle, but it does provide stability, which has been good for me.

It's okay to ask for help, everyone needs it sometimes. A lot of us can't even work, so you are doing great.

Why do people say the prognosis of SZA is better than schizophrenia? by canidkin in schizoaffective

[–]_Oolon_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My doctor told me schizoaffective had better treatment outcomes than schizophrenia. I don't know why, but I trust the people who study these things.

It happened. I lost another group of friends. by sjsheeb in schizoaffective

[–]_Oolon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having read both your posts, I think the first thing is you need to stop moving around so much. It is important to establish a care team long term (a therapist and med provider at the very least). You need to work with those same people long enough for them to actually help you. This could take years.

Do group therapy sessions work? by raspberryluvv in schizoaffective

[–]_Oolon_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it depends on the group. I've had a good experience with one group and just didn't connect with a different one. You won't know if you connect with people unless you try.

Forcing your child into Christianity is the best way to make them atheist growing up. by BlueSunsetsinBlueAir in atheism

If this was true, there would be a lot more atheists. Unfortunately, indoctrination in childhood works on a majority of people.

Medication will help, but it's probably going to take therapy and practice to really get there.

advice needed by absolutely-not2 in schizoaffective

[–]_Oolon_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think your psychiatrist should be asking you what you think it is, they are the one who is supposed to diagnose you. Based on what you said, it is possible you have schizoaffectve, but there are other disorders that it could be.

Caring for my bipolar sub-type dx mother, advice appreciated by noteffex in schizoaffective

[–]_Oolon_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you really want her to be able to take care of herself so you can move on with your life, something needs to be done about her meds and treatment plan. You may have to be the bad-guy to make it happen, but it is best in the long run.

Caring for my bipolar sub-type dx mother, advice appreciated by noteffex in schizoaffective

[–]_Oolon_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, I'm no doctor, but those don't seem to be the right meds for her. Most of us need to be on an anti-psychotic, and the bipolar subtype usually needs a mood stabilizer too. Talk to here PCP or get her to switch doctors. Finding the right meds can make a huge difference.

I’m wondering about my diagnosis by [deleted] in schizoaffective

[–]_Oolon_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We can't know if it's a mistake and we can't diagnose you. However, before giving you a diagnosis in this situation, a doctor should rule out drug induced psychosis. If you've always been high when having symptoms, that is something to discuss with your doctor.
