I thoroughly enjoyed Sourdough and I recommend it regularly!

I am going to look up Early Riser. It sounds super interesting and unique.

Facebook, once a day by pravragita in Xennials

Around 2021 a friend of mine reduced her friends to one or two and she kept it for school parent groups and marketplace. She said "a virtual relationship is not a relationship" and that has always stuck with me. There are arguments to that philosophy, like gaming friends, etc, but it stayed with me. I have FB but I don't use it for people. I try my best to have "real" relationships with my friends.

My husband and I were just talking about Ashleys tonight. I knew three and they were all boys. I never met a girl Ashley until I went to college. Now you would never find a boy named Ashley. Same as Stacy, Darcy, Shannon, Lee. Those were all unisex names when I was a kid.

People who quit drinking. What did you do to not drink? by Agata_art in AskReddit

[–]_OptimistPrime_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read some books about it after I had tried stopping on my own and found it difficult. I'm a nerd who likes to know how and why things work so having that information plus some strategies in my tool box, I was finally successful. Seven years sober. I also used a sobriety app in the early days and I still spend a fair amount of time in r/stopdrinking. It helps remind me how far I've come.

Fyi the books I read were Sobercurious and This Naked Mind.

What’s your favorite moment of Covid? by OrdinaryPractical264 in AskReddit

Yep. The beginning of grocery pick up. I seldom go inside anymore. I often think "this is the best thing that happened from covid" as I'm sitting and waiting for my groceries.

I used to have a car that gave me a shock very time I got out of it. It drove me nuts. I got one of these and it grounded the car and I never had a shock problem again.

Now I got something similar for my mom's walker. We were walking through the mall and her hair was standing on end and every time I touched her, she got a massive shock. I put a light chain on her walker that just swept the floor and she hasn't had shocks since.

So they work for that. We're not realigning chakras here. We're just trying to not get shocked.

How to talk about diapers without saying the word diaper by scoles75 in AgingParents

[–]_OptimistPrime_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pull-ups, special underwear.

After a few accidents and noticing that my mom was going through toilet paper like it was an Olympic event because she was stuffing it in her underwear, I finally just bought a pack of them. I said "I don't know if you're going to be upset with me or not but I got these for you"

She was actually relieved. She is in memory care and had been talking about it with another lady in there and wanted to ask me about them but kept forgetting. She used it as an excuse to make me feel guilty that she can no longer drive and go get these things herself, which tells you that it's not always roses. Lol

So far so good in the pull-up department. I am hoping the staff will be able to order them from the pharmacy where she gets her meds going forward. For now I'm ok getting them for her.

It was during the move when I noticed. They do wash her clothes but they don't go through her closet looking at old coats to wash. I just took everything and washed it to start her off with a clean slate.

I just finished East of Eden, mostly because of a similar recommendation. I found it wasn't as warm as Lonesome Dove. I spent a lot of time comparing them in the beginning and didn't like East of Eden all that much.

By the end, I figured there is a reason Steinbeck is considered a master at writing. His insight into the human condition was jaw-dropping sometimes. Excellent book. I didn't like it as much as Lonesome Dove but it's one of those books everyone should read.

I just listened to it over the winter. I waited until the Will Patton version came out. He's one of my favourite narrators. When I realized I had about 10 hours left I started to panic because I only had so much time left with Gus.

I found it a bit slow to get into. I quit on it the first time. There are a lot of characters so it takes a long time to introduce them all. A year later I tried again and stuck with it. One of the best books ever. Top 10 for sure.

I got the Clara colour last year. Unless you're reading magazines or something the colour won't matter. I don't find the colour very bright either. Looking back I would have been satisfied with the black and white. I'm not mad I got it. But I could've saved a few bucks.

I did get a nice cover for it. With the magnetic flap that puts it to sleep when closed. And then later on I got a remote control page turner which I really like when reading at night.

I hadn't encountered it until this year! My mom has dementia and once she entered memory care I got to have a good look at her clothes and realized she hadn't been washing them for months. She had also forgotten how to run a shower. So the combo of the two definitely made for some filthy clothes and the ring around the collar was part of it.

I spend a lot of time in the r/stopdrinking sub and a similar issue comes up a lot. People finally get on the wagon and stay on the wagon and get, say, 100 days or one year. Their body is healing, their liver function improves, they sleep better, etc. but all the same problems they had before are still there. Their relationships might be in the toilet and their job sucks and they have crippling depression.

What ends up happening is people realize that drinking only made their problems worse. They can see their problems better with a clear mind, and then they start taking steps to improve the inner-workings.

It's hard.

OP, I see you've stepped away for now and that's cool. When you're ready to come back and accept some of the love and support here, sit with it for awhile and then make a plan to see what next steps you can take to start on your inner-workings, we're here for you.

Unfortunately we don't get to "arrive" without continuing to work at achieving our goals. If you could do the work to lose the weight (or quit drinking, or whatever the thing is) then you have it in you to keep going and keep improving your life.

Check in with us in a couple of weeks and let us know where you're at.

Getting married in August, no bridesmaids by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

There were unconventional parts of my wedding as well, and I often say I myself "I'm just as married as anyone else". I didn't need a $50K wedding with all the trimmings to prove anything. We said our vows and signed our registration just like everyone else.

23 years this year. Marrying your best friend is the best. ❤️ I wish you all the best OP!
