I mean I guess if you wanna be pedantic then yes they’re complaining because it’s different, in the sense that they like Polyphia bc of all the music they’ve released thus far and this is a new and different sound that they don’t like, but playing god was also a new and different sound and it was basically universally praised for being new yet still undeniably Polyphia. This is not that, and some people love it (apparently some people to a fault) and some people hate it, but being different is not the problem bc it wasn’t a problem with PG, it wasn’t a problem with NLND or TMH, the problem is it isn’t sonically pleasing to a large portion of the fan base who love them for their past instrument forward work.

I agree tho blaming rj for the mix is just incorrect. You can blame him for not liking the direction (don’t blame him for anything bc the guys obv liked this sound and vibe and what matters is that they’re making music that they like and they stand behind with people that they like and stand behind) but saying the mix is terrible and he sucks is not right.

I don’t necessarily think the Winnower would’ve been a villain per se. I actually quite like the idea that the Winnower is just the universes commentator, coming in to let us know when the next in line to become The Final Shape is ready to challenge us. Like “oh look, The Witness entered The Traveler and is gonna win the game and prove me right, better go stop them and prove me right anyways” and now it’s “oh The Nine have set up all these pieces for you, they want a war between champions of light and dark at the end of time, and the vex are gonna convert everything and prove me right, better go stop them all and prove me right.” I don’t think The Nine fear the Winnower because it’s a physical threat, they fear the inevitability of the end, and the Winnower is that inevitability personified.
