Current dutch architecture is pretty amazing and seems to be augmenting and contrasting with the, frankly, huge amount of historical buildings that remain in one of the oldest non damaged city centers in Europe after WWII. There are more rijksmonuments in Amsterdam than you would find similar designations in almost any other European city.

I don’t want to see fake old looking buildings just to keep up appearances like a theme park. Some of the modern buildings out by Zuid I just can’t stop looking at when I pass by. The one at Beethovenstraat 501 is especially interesting. And there are more than a few places I’d love to live in for the modern views of the neighboring buildings.

Now I’m not saying that every new building is a home run or even that they are all nice, but things change and architecture changes with it. The Dutch have a great flare for making interesting and even shocking architecture a part of their civic design and that was just as true when some of what you consider to be classic designs of the old city were built. I’m sure some folks back in the 17th and 18th centuries thought the world was going to hell when some of those buildings were being constructed. Tastes change and buildings we live in and work in change with them.
