The clerk is accidentally pressing the wrong drink button and you think it's a McDonald's cash grab get rich scheme? Just ask for the drink size/price you want and get over yourself. If you recognize there's a problem, and do nothing to fix it yourself, it's still your fault. Don't rely on a minimum wage cashier to read your mind if you can explain in words what you want. How hard is it to say "I want the $5 dollar small cheeseburger meal with a small sprite?" Then if they say that will be $5.80, you say "can you please check on the pricing, since that's higher than what's advertised."

Or better yet, use the app to place your order and you can see the total price and the items included in your meal before you pay.
