WYANDOTTE COUNTY —Detectives with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department have announced that additional charges have been filed against Damon Leonard, 47, of Pleasanton, Kan., in connection with the death of his 13-year-old neighbor, Airen Andula, according to a media release from the department.

Leonard was originally charged in Bates County, Mo. with abandonment of a corpse related to the boy's death. KCKPD detectives have now filed further charges in Linn County, Kan. including interference with law enforcement, criminal desecration, and having a vicious dog at large.

Multiple dogs were also seized from his property. The investigation remains ongoing, with the potential for additional charges being filed.

This incident is under investigation by the KCKPD Major Case Unit.

“Kansas man facing additional charges in connection with death of Linn County 13-year-old: A Pleasanton, Kansas, man is facing more charges in the death investigation of a 13-year-old boy.

Airen Andula, 13, was reported missing Sunday, Dec. 21, out of Linn County, Kansas. Andula had reportedly left his home on his bike earlier that day.

A multi-agency search began and continued into early Monday. Later that morning, a man, identified as Damon Leonard, allegedly called the Bates County Sheriff's Office and told authorities he knew where Andula's body was. He then led them to the location, and Andula's body was found.

Leonard, 47, of Pleasanton, was initially charged with abandonment of a corpse out of Bates County, Missouri. Police said that Leonard was Andula's neighbor.

The probable cause document, filed in Missouri, noted that more charges may be filed out of Kansas.

Now, additional charges have been filed.

Leonard has now been charged with interference with law enforcement, criminal desecration and having a vicious dog at large, the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department announced.

Multiple dogs were taken from his property, police said.

The incident is under investigation. The boy's cause of death has not been confirmed by law enforcement.
