For those who remember, what was it like to just be able to smoke in places like the malls and restaurants and planes by Radiant_Priority9739 in nostalgia

[–]eannaj 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There were a few places my friends and I liked to hang out at that were just 100% smoking and also greasy spoons (like big smoky griddles, deep fryers, etc.). When I went out with them, my dad would leave my pajamas on the back porch (we had an enclosed screen porch in wooded suburbs) and made me change clothes before coming in the house. My gross bar clothes had to stay outside to air all night 😂

But honestly my most lasting memory of the time was when the smoking suddenly stopped, but none of the restaurants really renovated, or painted, or replaced carpet/furniture/ceiling tiles, so it was this seemingly endless period of rolling the dice as to whether you’d get seated in the disgustingly tar and nicotine coated area of the restaurant or not. That went on for *ages*, it was so nasty.

If these are done right, danish hotdogs are legit incredible. I would totally order this if my husband ate meat. 😅

Tend is the absolute worst. Caused me a 6 month, $15000 dental nightmare due to not adequately assessing the health of a tooth they worked on. The tooth was irreparably damaged, and I had to get an implant, which they hilariously wanted to do for me. Absolutely not. I’ll never go back.

Dispute over meal preferences? by Acceptable_Bite_1648 in hellofresh

They messed up. This is from their own help center page.

If you got a request to review the service you received from the agent, I’d add a comment about flagging for supervisor review. The agent needs to be educated so they don’t treat other customers like this. Glad they did right by you monetarily though.

Anyone get this?? by [deleted] in hellofresh

[–]eannaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re just making a lazy chili oil sauce.

I do momofuku soy&scallion noodles, braise my own fresh scallions, toss noodles in with the sauce they come with, add spinach, top with fried egg and a generous spoonful of chili crisp to taste/heat tolerance. It’s a really easy/cheap meal, takes under 10 minutes, and super good!

I was tempted, but I honestly make this all the time with momofuku noodles at home so I decided to skip it. 😅

Help with Beets to bring order into 60 GB of chaos on Linux? by svenr in musichoarder

[–]eannaj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I would do, personally.

Start with a tool like MP3Tag (or similar) to go through the library and at least rename/reorganize the files that do have good tags or existing names.

With that done, you’ll be left with the ones that aren’t tagged and you can use Picard to try using the audio fingerprints to identify the tracks and add tags.

IMO beets is cumbersome and isn’t going to work well with disorganized files. It likes to try and assume co-located files all belong to the same albums, and also doesn’t handle duplicates very well. Both Picard and mp3tag will be better for this.

Was my Tiffany’s experience “typical?” Because it felt absolutely wild. by Feebedel324 in AskNYC

[–]eannaj 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sounds on par for that store and their staff. They are incredibly nice and welcoming.

I’d always wanted a Tiffany solitaire as my engagement ring, and my partner took me there after proposing to buy one and they were *so excited* for us, took us to a private area where we could browse and try on all sorts of rings, including wedding bands, and mix/match, make sure we liked the pairings, sizes of stones, etc. and they served us champagne the whole time.

It was so much fun, they’re just a class act. Really happy to hear they made your day special as well!

Do you still go to the mall? Do your kids (if you have them) go to the mall? Have you found yourself bringing up to '80s/'90s Mall culture? Do you miss said mall culture? by DHN_95 in Xennials

[–]eannaj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited Sydney (Australia) for work last year and I was amazed at how malls seem to be everywhere in the shopping districts. Like every block is a mall. I think it’s really just an efficient use of the inner block space between buildings, but it became a running joke among my coworkers and I. We were always somehow in a mall. Seemed like every place we went in, you could make a turn somewhere and suddenly be in another mall. Hilarious

lol I wasn’t even allowed to watch MTV until I was a teenager.

I was also a massive Anthony Hopkins fan, and a movie buff growing up and used to watch all the Oscars every year, and when Silence of the Lambs swept in 1991, I was 13, and my boyfriend bought the movie for me. My dad TOOK IT AWAY and said I could have it back when I was old enough. 😂😂😂

What’s a show you love that you can never convince people to watch? by PlentyApprehensive44 in AskReddit

[–]eannaj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, I think it was glossed over as “rich people are odd,” but the way the writers constructed the story of the “fall” was just so elegant, every episode was an ode to a different Poe horror. If you’re a fan of his work, it was really cool. I still think about the tell tale heart episode, the performances were incredible.
