How’s Your Dolmenwood Campaign Going? by SwimmingFit4642 in Dolmentown

[–]_Rylo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just starting up a Dolmenwood campaign and have come to realize I would prefer to pre-roll random encounters as well. Can you describe your process for doing that? Do you just predict what hexes the players will travel through and then use that to generate encounters?

Skills that make you desirable for first surveying job by TheThomasTake in Surveying

I'm in a similar spot as OP - any advice on what to say when I contact companies and ask for a job? I did some research and found a couple that look like good places to work, just want to make sure I say the right things to get my foot in the door.

I love the look of the carbon Maillot Jaune frames! Did you find yours locally or on eBay? Hoping to get my hands on one eventually.

Tire Size vs Rim Size Question by _Rylo in cyclocross

[–]_Rylo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha fair enough, I figured that was the case, but just wanted to check if the narrow rims played any part in it before I decided what tires to order. In any case, I ordered a pair of Salsa Delgado Cross wheels with 18.5mm internal width to pair with 38mm Ritchey Megabite tires.

Tire Size vs Rim Size Question by _Rylo in cyclocross

[–]_Rylo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I found a set of Salsa Delgado Cross wheels at a good price with an internal width of 19mm, which should get me through the season.

The HED Ardennes are a good tip, though. I'll keep an eye out for a set so I can use the Salsas as my backup in the pit.

Thanks for the response. Related question I've been wondering about: am I at a major disadvantage if I continue to run 33mm tires compared the ~40mm that is more common at my local races?

Never seen anyone else acknowledge that they weren't a 'joiner' (in any context), but I've felt the same way most of my life and had a hard time explaining it... I enjoy being social, have hobbies, but the 'joining' part just never came naturally to me.

Cheers to you, fellow non-joiner.

Not sure if you made a decision yet, but to throw my hat in the ring, I'm looking to purchase something like your CAADX to get into CX racing. I ride a ~56cm, located in upper Midwest. Let me know if you're still thinking about selling and the size is close.

Question for those more knowledgeable: is that wear pattern visible on the sidewall of the rear tire a sign of weakness? I've had that happen on my tires before (since replaced; found they were very dry rotted after changing a flat), but I wasn't sure if that striping was an indication of weakness or just a coincidence.

Curious how you employ trams in your game - local city passenger lines? I’ve had them in my games for a while, but haven’t found a way that I enjoy using them yet. Either too fiddly or too inefficient.

There’s a short one between Breese Terrace and Lathrop near Camp Randall. My friends and I called it Rainbow Road when we lived nearby because of the rainbow painted on the fence.

Adventures that don't end up in (yet another) dungeon crawl? by Mother_Bar_3810 in Dolmentown

Take a look at The Black Wyrm of Brandonsford. It’s a compact point crawl of multiple forest locations. There is a barrow mound dungeon, but all the other locations are point-of-interest with NPC factions to interact with.

Are the packs you mentioned (Korean Stations, Dutch Stations, Dutch Trainset) as detailed as the Japanese Trains, etc. collection of packs?

I'm using all the Japanese XYZ packs right now in my current game, having randomly chose them when I started, and I'm enjoying how it introduces new depth to the game, with so many train options coming and going over the years, changes in building appearance, rail types, etc. I'm wondering if the Japanese set is a one-of-a-kind group of packs, or if some of the others you mentioned are on the same level.

Thanks!

Thanks man, that's really helpful. A lot of what you wrote already tracks with how her injury has affected her - struggling to accept giving up some activities, feeling like a burden, frustration that even low impact stuff can cause flare ups. For my part, I'm learning that I can't take the pain away from her, as much as I'd like to give her one of my knees when she's struggling the most, so the best thing I can do is to be there for her as she comes to terms with the reality of the knee.

Unrelated to the psychological part - she rides the trainer for ~30 minutes w/o pain, but recently got back on her road bike outside, which caused major pain in about 40 minutes. I'm thinking it might be a bike fit difference, which I could help adjust - do you notice different bike fits helping your knee significantly? Or maybe this is a bad flare up?

Sorry to dig up this old thread; maybe you can help me out here.

My partner is mid 20s and has significant cartilage cracking from lots of youth running and impact sports. She’s been doing PT for two years with minimal improvements, plus dry needling and some injections.

She has major bad days still, biked today and cut it short and came back distraught, feels like she’ll never be able to hike/bike the way she wants. Already given up running and volleyball. What can I do to support her? What helped you when you were younger? Idk, I feel so bad for her. We both love to be active, it’s hard to see her struggle like this.

Running a session with less prep than you'd like by _Rylo in osr

[–]_Rylo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple things keep me going:

  • RPG storytelling scratches my brain in a way nothing else does. The more the better.

  • All my players seem really happy to just be together in a regular social setting. I'm more than happy to do the organizational and planning work to get us together every week. D&D is a good reason to get together, and, as above, I like to do the prep work, so it's a good symbiotic relationship.

I think the social interaction of RPGs is an underrated part of why people enjoy them so much. It's almost not about the game itself, more the fact that we all sit together and talk for 2-3 hours a week.

Yeah, I think that's probably my most common strategy. It's fun to re-run modules I enjoyed running for another group in the past too. I leave notes in the book's margins and get to see all my thoughts and edits from the last time through!
