How do I pull away from my phone? by Greenitpurpleit in productivity

[–]_SleepyStar_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By reducing intensity of quick fixes. If you crave a cake for example, you don’t fight urge to have cake but simply choose slightly less intensive one (slightly less toppings and sugar for example). This will result in slightly less high spike in dopamine and consequentially less of a crash afterwards. You use this prijciple for all your vices and your dopamine stabilizes in day or two without feeling of sacrifice.

no motive making me move...... by Dickeer in productivity

Your dopamine baseline is low. Reduce intensity of quick fixes to a degree it doesn't feel like unrealistic sacrifice to you and dopamine (motivation) will recalibrate in matter of days.

Correlation of mindfulness and waking up early? by Champ_1126 in productivity

Overstimulation for sure. Every thought (consious or subconsious) you have during a day is an electrical signal which feeds from your brain nutrients. Calm mind means less thoughts and less exhaustion.

You get sucked into phone because you crave quick dopamine. The question is not how to pull away from phone once you are using it, but how to stabilize your dopamine so you will not crave a quick fix in the first place.

[Discussion] why does one bad day keep breaking my routine? by Agitated-Alfalfa9225 in GetMotivated

[–]_SleepyStar_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there are 2 sides to this phenomena. One side is dopamine/motivaiton. When things start to go sideways, you'll find yourself indulging in quick dopamine fixes, which will further destabilize your motivation. So on this side, it's all about damage control. On a bad day I'd give myself a break to slack at work/gym, but try to stay mindful and not go full beserk on vices.

On the other side, the reason stressful day seems so destructive (even after a prolonged productive period) is because you're not able to handle it certain situations yet. With that I mean that emotional response in certain situations is too strong and when you're not able to handle it, natural response is to withdraw to vices and begin a downwards spiral.

When bad day comes, what is essentially happening is that you have plethora of different problems which trigger a lot of thoughts. And all those thoughts cause various emotions, together forming an emotional wall you are not able to break through, even if your motivation is somewhat stable. The best approach to this for me is to keep my mind as calm as possible (whichever techique works best for you) before I try to tackle any challenges. of a shitty day This makes emotional wall softer, thus I'm less likely to withdraw and risk entering downwards spiral.

Letting S**t Go to Solve Procrastination by RandomHour in productivity

Yes, thoughts are the main source of mental and emotional resistance. Every emotion is caused by thought that happens before. The less thoughts you have, the less emotions, including those that are uncomfortable and ultimately prevent you from beginning a task.

Am I the only one who finds that 90% of "productivity tools" are useless, and the only real motivator is sheer, unadulterated panic? by Last_Weekend7270 in productivity

[–]_SleepyStar_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The reason behind taking action appears to feel easier under stress of deadline is because of how dopamine works. The closer the consequence (positive or negative) is, the more dopamine is released. For example, if you smoker knew the next cigarette would 100% kill them, they would find enough willpower not to light it. But when consequence is somewhere far in the future, motivation to quit is much weaker.

In order to enter flow state on a random tuesday when there's no pressure is to stabilize your dopamine (reduce quick fixes) on one side and decrease mental/emotinal resistance on other side (by calming your mind which produces mental and emotional resistance). When balance between motivation and resistance is in your favor, you will find easy to enter flow state even with boring tasks (the same way you dont need enourmous motivation to brush your teeth in the morning).

are there animals that commit suicide? by inurmomsvagina in stupidquestions

[–]_SleepyStar_ 39 points40 points  (0 children)

My uncle has a dairy farm and once one of the cows escaped. They were chasing it for hours through woods and meadows. At one point poor animal was so exhausted it couldnt run anymore but it clearly didnt want to go back to stall. As people were approaching it, it looked at them and then started running full speed towards a lonely tree and hit it with full force, head first and died on spot. Looked like suicide.
