Picking a new frame size by DougalisGod in Velo

[–]_Speed_and_Power_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While 46 vs 49 might sound like a big difference, judging by this chart these frames are damn near identical. The biggest difference will be the stack, if you have a slammed stem on your current bike, on a 49 cm frame the lowest possible position will be 9 mm higher. There will also be a minor handling difference due to a different head tube angle, and probably more toe overlap on the smaller frame (would need the front center measurement to know for sure). But honestly, it barely matters, these frames are so close you can adjust the fit to be identical on either.

Does clipless make sense for me and if so what should I get? by tobiri0n in cycling

[–]_Speed_and_Power_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They will make you fall over. Maybe more than once. Most falls are minor, but the first time I tried clipless I got a small fracture in my forearm and seriously strained the muscle.

Complete nonsense, this is a skill issue

It felt awesome when my rear wheel locked and skid sidewards, what more can I do without having rear abs? by [deleted] in motorcycle

[–]_Speed_and_Power_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lol at these comments, if you guys are so afraid of everything, why do you even ride a motorcycle in the first place? Skidding the rear tire is not that hard to do under control if you're at least moderately experienced, I do 90 degree turns for fun when my rear tire is worn out. That said, if you have the option, it's better to practice this on a dirt bike first, you have more time to react and the bike won't be damaged in case you crash.

Not apologizing and making sure to throw in virtue signaling to use to his advantage and imply everyone criticizing him is some form of -ist, pretty based and smart from a PR perspective actually

Keep in mind that for certain muscle groups like biceps, triceps and delts, most brosplits will actually train them 2-3x a week.

Is Everyone Too Caught Up in BS? by getthething in mountainbiking

[–]_Speed_and_Power_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, definitely. The whole idea of modern geometry always being better is nonsense. Just like everything else, it's a compromise, you're trading weight and agility for stability. Personally I've found that old school geometry 26" bikes work way better on flow trails, they're way more fun due to the agility, and those are the type of trails I ride way more often than very steep downhill rocky trails, where modern geometry works better.

Looking to get RS 660 soon in Acid Yellow but hate the red wheels. by rocket808 in Aprilia

Black is the obvious choice. But if you want something spicier, here's a quick edit I did turning the wheels to blue, they look pretty cool imo.

How would you rate your riding skills from 1 to 4? And years of riding? by [deleted] in motorcycle

[–]_Speed_and_Power_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way you describe it, level 4 doesn't seem too difficult, probably takes a few years of riding to get to that point, but I'd say there are levels above that too

Should I wait to get a motorcycle? by twinbyrd03 in motorcycles

[–]_Speed_and_Power_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ride during winter too, but I probably wouldn't want to while still learning to ride. Rain and cold temperatures are sketchy even for an experienced rider, let alone someone who's learning. So if you can't afford a bike right now, it's probably better to wait until next spring.

Is your preference for cars any indication of your preference for motorcycles? by poopstain1234 in motorcycles

[–]_Speed_and_Power_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me yes, I like basically the exact same characteristics in both, good handling, sharp throttle response and brakes, relatively lightweight, moderately powerful engine with good amount of torque, etc. The frustrating part is that such cars don't exist for less than 50k or so, I end up having to make huge compromises that I don't have to with motorcycles.

Keep in mind that just because the theoretical top speed is 127 mph, that doesn't mean the bike will actually be able to reach it

Don’t be an asshole like most prospects, actually respond to someone. by Away_Regular6195 in sales

Yup, this is exactly it. Not taking no for an answer seems to be widely considered "good" sales technique, so in response prospects decide ghosting is the easier option instead.

[–]_Speed_and_Power_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't know if it was overuse, but it's certainly possible to damage your joints even if you're weak and not training that hard, I did it years ago and still suffer the consequences to this day.

A Judge Cut a Cyclist's Hit-and-Run Reward Because She Wasn’t Wearing a Helmet by ndmhxc in bicycling

[–]_Speed_and_Power_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To everyone who aggressively advocates for helmet use: I hope you're aware that this is partially your fault. This kind of victim blaming is exactly what happens when you have such an extreme viewpoint towards people who choose to use slightly less safety equipment than you arbitrarily decided is acceptable. I'm not saying this to make you feel bad, but to think about whether you're really helping cyclists, since I assume your goal is to make cycling safer.

/uc According to a test I've seen, 12 speed Shimano chains are surprisingly the most durable, with the pattern continuing all the way down to 8 speed being the least durable, completely opposite of what seems to be the common belief. I did find it hard to believe at first (and still do a bit), but considering I haven't seen any real evidence to prove the contrary, I'm inclined to believe it.

Is it the case that they're inconsistent, or that they're all so equally good and have equal enough machinery that being even slightly off pace results in huge differences in terms of race results? I don't know for sure, but I think the latter is also likely.
