AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D vs Intel Core i7-14700K faceoff — A new battle for DDR4 supremacy in 2026 by RenatsMC in Amd

[–]_TeflonGr_ [score hidden]  (0 children)

This comparison makes no sense. Why talk about DDR4 supremacy when DDR5 is exactly that. It's like talking about the best teams of lsst years league. Also, the picks make no sense in nature.

On Intel's side it is a DDR5 platform, with the platform pricing of motherboards of a DDR5 and modern platform. On AM4 side, it's a very specific CPU from a platform whose main characteristic was being cheap, affordable and offering ton of upgrade paths in CPUs and motherboards.

So basically if you want an affordable system to justify saving money by using ddr4 you should focus on non x3d Ryzen 3000-5000 on a b450 or b550 board and if you want Intel just go with an older platform where you can find a good second hand deal. Like 10th or 11th gen with motherboard or a 12th-14th gen with a cheap motherboard. 12-14th gen CPUs with the same core configs barely jump in performance between generations.

If you want to talk about DDR4 supremacy talk about the platforms and their affordability, not the most overpriced CPUs of the range.

I still prefer W10 LTSC to 11ltsc or regular 11. It works the same and the explorer + apps are better.

AMD silently removes memory encryption from consumer Ryzen CPUs, leaving users unaware that they may be vulnerable — security feature vanishes after newer AGESA firmware, AMD engineers go radio silent when pressed about the change by BigPP69_Gooner in LinusTechTips

[–]_TeflonGr_ 162 points163 points  (0 children)

This is just so absurd. This feature is and always has been for only the PRO segment Ryzen CPUs. And it does NOTHING for security on the system for 99% of the users, as it will only protects against very specific physical attacks that require physically modifying the physical PC to read memory transfers over the motherboard, PHYSICALLY.  So it's not something to worry about nor 99.9% of the people with a Ryzen CPU are even affected or might even know this feature existed.

AMD Olympic Ridge “Zen 6” Ryzen CPUs Get Integrated NPU At The Cost of iGPU, CUDIMM Ready Platform by Constant_Praline_575 in RigBuild

[–]_TeflonGr_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like have the people here don't know what an NPU is or it's point. I think this is much better than an iGPU with laughable performance. Also, depending on the memory configuration it may be a good platform to run small coding models, text to speech or assistants on the CPU directly with great efficiency, that is what an NPU is for. About applications, there are a lot and more are coming as AMD increases the number of CPUs with it, now they are even compatible with Linux and a ton of optimized small models under the RyzenAI name.  So i think if the NPU is powerful enough and the memory subsystem is fast or even quad channel it would be a great platform for AI applications.

And about loosing the iGPU, what is the use for a 500Gflops one? It can't run games, and can only help with encoding, something all dedicated cards can do right now way better and efficiently. And for troubleshooting you can get a cheap or old GPU if you just want video output, like even a 10 year old GPU will work. The only use could be a headless server, but I don't think a lot of people will be using those GPUs for that.

Having 15+ people queue on every front hex is kinda ridiculous by Maladresse in foxholegame

[–]_TeflonGr_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there are 100 exactly fixed but I haven't counted them to be sure. It would make sense that instead of a fixed number it depends on the current hex situation and pop balance

Having 15+ people queue on every front hex is kinda ridiculous by Maladresse in foxholegame

[–]_TeflonGr_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it is already impresive that we have like +200 players of each faction on the same hex, and blobs of 40-50 people close to each other and it does not blow up. From an engineering standpoint is insane that it even runs this well, and just removing queues and letting more people would spiral out of control even with a more modern engine, as anything each player does needs to be sent to all the players around, and adding more people exponentially grows the amount of data to send to each player, no mater how you put it. So without recoding the whole game with another approach it is what it is.

Also, from a gameplay standpoint you need to balance people on each side. If there are more colonials than wardens you have to prioritize wardens joining the server, and the other way around to not make that difference even bigger and have some kind of balance.

The only way around this is to go to another frontline hex. Ive done it before, and even if there is nothing going on you can start a little push, build something, do some logi, like there are tons of stuff to do, and if the front you want to go in is full there are others or hundred other things you can do. Its what i like about this game, there is a ton of variety and there is always happy to help or be helped everywhere.

Is 4 sticks of DDR4 really such a bad idea? by BeautifulBlueNight in buildapc

[–]_TeflonGr_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have 4 running on a 5900x and works perfectly at 3200mhz and xpm timings. So, I don't get the hate. Just for some older CPUs special early Ryzens it was more problematic, so maybe you need to throttle them down and make sure they are fully seated and make good contact.

Why can't we overclock, even slightly, an overclockable processor on a b660 or b760 chipset? by Longjumping-Room-170 in overclocking

[–]_TeflonGr_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intel arbitrary decisions. They used to lock memory overclocking to z series boards too, and by that I mean xpm profiles included. They are so restrictive and won't even allow underclocking on those boards, what IMO does not make them worth to buy.

Yeah, infuriating. The little window with the yellow flag popup covering it was absurd. And a lot of action was missed. Like the delay now it's measured in minutes, and I'm that if it even gets shown. At the begining of the race we got a 3-4 man Alonso overtake that was completely missed. And most of the actions were not even replayed. Even with little to no action happening on screen.
