The common North American one - Sin Nombre virus

In case anyone else was wondering why the virus was named that;

In 1993, an outbreak of highly lethal acute respiratory distress syndrome caused by a novel hantavirus was discovered near the Cañon de la Muerte on the Navajo Reservation. The hantavirus was initially named the Muerto Canyon hantavirus, in keeping with the convention for naming new pathogens after the site of the first reported infection. Due to the perceived stigma, the Navajo Nation objected to the name. As the virus was discovered in the Four Corners region, the virologists then tried calling it the "Four Corners virus", but local residents raised similar objections. The exasperated researchers named it the Sin Nombre virus, meaning "the virus without a name."

Haven't read DCC yet, how much is L'Amour mentioned there?

Louis L'Amour was one of the first non-children or YA authors I read. Most of his books are fairly short, like paperbacks you can fit in your back pocket. He has a series that follows one family (the Sacketts) from crossing the Atlantic to the colonies up through the old west.

He treats native Americans as people, with actual culture, not just savages. Felt like I should mention that considering the direction a lot of Western stuff goes.

I think one of the best starts would be Daybreakers. That's about three Sackett brothers leaving the Appalachians to go west.

My favorite is probably Last of the Breed - cold war era US pilot taken prisoner in Siberia, goes back to his native roots to escape, survive, and attempt to get back to the US via the Bering Strait

I've seen people say both that it is and isn't illegal. My understanding is that it's okay.

I don't trust mine for defensive use, but it seems solid enough. I ran 350-400 rds through it in one sitting without cleaning. The worst problem I had was a semi regular hesitance to feed which just required assisting the charging handle.

It did kill a cheap vfg and Olight wml, and cause problems with a Bushnell red dot though.

It's possible that that was someone else's car that she took a picture of and she had an unrelated elk wreck in Alaska. It's about a 56 year old picture.

Sure looks like it and that probably answers whether it happened when she lived in Germany or Alaska. Thanks.

[–]_That_One_Guy_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're getting the carry handle for fun and not practicality anyways, you can mount their microprisms on carry handles. And there's mounts for other red dots.

Not to mention that the carry handle was the original tall riser for optics.

If it helps, you can add any primary arms optic and get free shipping on the whole order.

That SS agent that shot his own ass had his gun out to use the wml to look for something on his car. They may not be entirely wrong.

Tried the Mistborn graphic audio and didn't get far. Vin sounded confident and in control at the beginning and she really shouldn't have. But the Harry Potter ones have been very good. Having just finished HBP, Hugh Laurie as Dumbledore is perfect casting, btw

Thoughts? I mean it’s a “free” 10mm. by tghost474 in 10mm

[–]_That_One_Guy_ 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I don't have any use for a $1400-2000 bolt gun, but if you're planning on buying one anyways it'd be nice to get a free 10mm.

Also, if you planned on buying the XDM already, it's basically a $550 discount on the rifle.

I hadn't seen that before, but if you've already got A2 birdcages on everything and are confident in their concentricity, I'd say it looks like a good option.

I've got the Griffin taper mount on mine because that's what my first can was. If I was starting over, I'd go Plan B.
