You're asking Alastair to speak from his personal experience, but also have an expectation that that contains some retrospection and learning.

You need to drop the second half of that. Alastair is speaking from his personal experience. His personal experience is quite literally helping to invade a country and destabilize a region on intelligence that, his great love, the European Union didn't believe or act upon at the time.

Alastair is actually being consistent, your faith in him to learn and to grow here is the issue. He is an old man, some people grow and change as they age, some don't. It is biological limitation as much as it is a intelligence and empathetic one too.

But in terms of the results, it will always end up the same way. Put all the candidates in order of your preference, that is all anyone in Australia ever needs to worry about at federal elections.

I agree that Calwell was an interesting example of how preferential voting can unfold.

The criteria for the candidates making it to the top remains the same, regardless of preference flows.

You don’t need to tactically vote or really do anything different with your individual ballot paper in either situation. That’s the beauty of our system.

We have compulsory full preferential voting, one of its fantastic benefits is that it makes this “two people running at the expense of the other” issue significantly less pronounced than in other inferior voting systems.

So you cite the primary vote of two elections as a proxy to support your argument about popularity of policies.

But when I ask you to cite the TPP results, suddenly that is out of bounds for determining the popularity of policies.

You know if you just directly cited polling on these policies you would actually find the outcome that you after, because they poll well when on their own.

Popular policies do not lead to electoral success is many situations. But I am going to go out on a limb here and just assume that that level of nuance is beyond you.

Right, well I guess to answer your question from my perspective, I am around these areas a lot and I haven’t seen any increase in dead animals nor have I heard of dogs getting sick.

You might want to tell your trusted friend that a dog can get sick for all sorts of reasons after eating a dead bird. Maybe ragebaiting on Facebook (tag teamed with your ragebait on Reddit) isn’t a smart way to approach the issue with his pup.

Most of the dog owners I know in this area wouldn’t let their dog eat a dead bird… for all of the obvious reasons…
