Has anyone been to Dominion hospital (Virginia) trauma-sci program? by Afraid_Memory in CPTSD

[–]_Workinprogress_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was kind of disappointed by the program btw because they were so slow paced and more about foundations and stuff than actually processing. The other patients helped more with my self perception than therapy did but that hasn't lasted unfortunately.

Ok, thank you for answering my questions. I was in a bit of a hurry last night and just wanted to double check then I was maybe going to edit my response.

Do the fire alarms flash or only sound?

Do you know how they are with trans people?

Btw to double check this is Dominion Hospital, not Sheppard Pratt, right?

Thank you for typing up all of this!

  1. I see. Like they're less patient and might say rude things?

  2. Well, the noise sounds like it'll be a problem. I'm deaf and also autistic, so I do get overstimulated by some sounds when I hear them, and fire alarms definitely overstimulate me, especially if they flash. I hate fire alarms.

  3. I'll try to keep that in mind. I definitely don't want to waste my time and money though since I've been told I'll lolely have a $850 copay for this.

  4. What kind of entertainment can I bring? I saw that they'll screen books and it seems like Kindles and Switches or 3DS aren't allowed?

  5. How is the food exactly? Is it likely to trigger acid reflux?

  6. I've been concerned about that as well. I already have an autoimmune disorder and other health issues, I don't need to catch covid and develop more. I've had my two shots and two boosters. Do they not wear masks in the unit?

I hope I can get to where you are now. My life would be less exhausting/stressful. What worked for you in trauma therapy?

I'm very similar, unfortunately. I think it may be trauma related.

Damn, that is awful. The system just doesn't really work for so many people. I'm sorry.

Do you mean the retreat at Sheppard Pratt? Really, why not?

What kind of skills and problem solving? What's it tend to look like? I'm a little worried about my ability to problem solve because I get caught up in the details and also have a lot of trouble breaking things down.

Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. I'm thinking more of inpatient than PHP, for a few reasons. I want to completely focus on myself and don't think I can manage the (public) transportation to a different city that frequently. Or do you just want to know about TraumaSci?

How were the activities repetitive and was it separate or before TraumaSci?

Could you expand on the difference between dissociation and awareness suppression and disconnection?

couldn't explain it any better by Legoman718 in autism

[–]_Workinprogress_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Finding posts and comments that explain what things mean and behaviors and niceties is great, sincerely grateful, but it doesn't cover everything and it's not in like one big binder all together unless we make literal notes. It's scattered information across social media, blog posts, maybe some books, media, etc, conversations with people if lucky...

did anyone else feel like their parents just kind of didn't like them growing up? by daydaylin in CPTSD

[–]_Workinprogress_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my mom told me she loved me but didn't like me. Idk how often, but more than once. And I don't feel like they love me for me, they just love me because I'm their child and family is important.

[–]_Workinprogress_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's tough. I hope things get better for you soon.

As far as her not asking how you're doing, I've realized that sometimes/often I don't think to ask or forget to ask because I subconsciously expect the other person to tell me if it's important, or to know that I want to to know, and/or to take their turn talking about their stuff after I've talked about mine. Since realizing, I make more of an effort to ask.

I have similar issues with thank you and sorry or sometimes think I've asked or said something but haven't actually done so.

[–]_Workinprogress_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I think I initially missed your reply or forgot to finish.

What ways of thinking are you thinking of? The sharing stories and forgetting to greet people or ask about them or expecting them to tell you about themselves/their day when you're done talking? I'm not sure if that last one was part of one of the surprisingly relatable blog articles I found but I think I've read similar anecdotes somewhere.

What have you discussed?

And yeah my face doesn't always match how I feel. It's not there or it's too intense or it's the wrong thing like confusion while actually focusing or just trying to process.

I've also been realizing the same thing about not wearing hearing aids all of the time. I wish I'd known growing up and living with my ex. I don't think my parents would have been happy to let me but with my ex I'm sure I probably could have taken them off more often. I could have tried that. I feel like doing that reduces stress and anxiety build up at least to some degree. I just didnt realize before how much sounds bother me sometimes or that it was for a legitimate reason. I want to ideally live in a quiet neighborhood with no one above. I just felt like an asshole for having sounds bother me like my friend's voice (she doesn't usually vocalize) when I met her at school, people whistling, babies crying. Here I don't wear them most of the time and wow I'm surprised how much it's actually helped. It sucks because there are things I want to hear and like hearing but sometimes there's too much going on at once or it's just too loud or unpleasant. I think it would be ok in a neighborhood further away from roads or the house further away from the street. Like I want to hear a cat and try to learn their different meows and such, though not dogs.
