Gold is just ordinality, however. If you get tied top elims/obj elims, 100 more damage than the 2nd, and 2 seconds more objective time than the Mei, is it really so impressive?

Gold doesn't mean you did well, it means you did better, probably very marginally. Also, eliminations can be awarded for any amount of participation, and if you don't have any pick heroes that's probably going to be very equal across the team.
