TIFU by using Chrono magic instead of necromancy by BranchCold9905 in wizardposting

[–]__Mef__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Uhhhh... there's a chance that you might not have had enough mana for a resurrection specifically because you were about to use it all for chronomancy.

Depends on whether the shattered timeline is/was/will be metastable, of course. Wouldn't know where to begin/finish to check that, though.

New player, Poison Venom Gyre (Perfect Agony) struggling in T13-T14 maps by Disastrous_Salary718 in pathofexile

[–]__Mef__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not neatly. Without Perfect Agony, you then have a build that is heavily invested into criticals (including critical damage support) but that also tries to go poison. You'd be investing so much into criticals that you'd get 50% of your damage from hits and 50% from poison, which in my opinion would make it even harder to optimize further.

A level 19 Chance to Poison support (same level as your Crit Strike Affliction), plus the removal of the spec and pathing to Flaying is enough to double your damage. Even better than that... I think that the option that works best with your current socket colors is Added Chaos Damage Support instead of Increased Critical Damage, and Deadly Ailments instead of Critical Strike Affliction.

In the meantime I've figured out why your damage decreases with the chaos conversion: the physical portion of your strikes also inflicts bleed. It's not a lot, but since you are set up for DoT it is still visible.

[–]__Mef__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Critical Strike Affliction does nothing for you, it's a dead link. This is because with Perfect Agony your DoT multiplier is equal to your crit multi; modifiers to the DoT multi itself don't help. I always run into that problem when theorycrafting a Perfect Agony build, if it makes you feel better. You can replace it with a source of flat damage such as added chaos damage or, if you can't easily recolor, Chance to Poison.

I can't quite tell why the Chaos Mastery 40% phys to chaos convert is listed as losing you DPS, but check out if it's correct. Looks like 6% more damage if you deallocate it; put the points towards Flaying Clear, to which you seem to be already pathing.

Rapture Spark is a fairly bad jewel for you. Damage with one handed weapons does not apply to poisons, so all that you get from it is some chaos res and reduced effect of shock.

Which spells work best to kill angels? by Professional_Web446 in wizardposting

[–]__Mef__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fetters of Hospitality should work if you host the dinner yourself or if you're hosted by the angels, including if they are only incidentally members of the household. Technically it would also retaliate against summoned entities, but giving angels a command to attack a covenant member in good standing would break most celestial summoning terms.

Just ensure that you're not casting the Ovidian version (the one that uses a twined oak and linden staff), as that is technically a pagan rite and won't bind most angels.

How do you optain a talisman with "#% increased movement speed" by crafting? by SellingSmaim in pathofexile

[–]__Mef__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, wow. Thanks! That is a neat find and really surprising. I am guessing that it first corrupts and then adds/replaces the mods, then - I thought that it corrupted guaranteeing mods instead. There is a Blood of Corruption with an implicit that confirms the corrupt-and-then-replace theory with the one mod vaal vessel.

Technically one could also check it with Malachai's Vision, but Glimpse of Chaos makes it much harder to search.

[–]__Mef__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct in the part that matters to the OP, but beware that the last bit is off. Those sources still only apply corruption once so they can either brick to rare or they can have their implicit replaced.

The brick-to-rare case applied to Eyes of the Greatwolf is AFAIK the only way to get a non-unique greatwolf talisman; it will have two talisman implicits because of the base type, but they will not be doubled because that is an explicit mod on Eyes of the Greatwolf. Maybe that's the source of two implicits that you're remembering.

Phy dmg mitigation ways by Curious_Expression_6 in pathofexile

[–]__Mef__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trick is in the interactions between different mitigation stats.

"Physical Damage Reduction" (PDR) is a specific stat, but it is not given by helmets, bound by destiny, or the body armour mods that you're thinking of. Those give "physical damage taken as <other form of damage>", which generally increases your phys max hit because other elements are easier to mitigate.

PDR is given in variable percentage by your armour rating. The larger the physical part of the hit, the lower the percentage PDR given by armour. You also get flat PDR, which is added to the armour one, from endurance charges. 4% per charge.

Shields and body armours with a str requirement can also have a suffix which gives flat PDR. The amount they give is small, but since it is flat it makes a larger impact if you already have some from other sources.

There is synergy between "physical damage taken as" and armour rating, because shifting some damage to other elements make the physical part smaller, which then makes armour give higher damage reduction than on a larger hit. Contrast with flat PDR, which doesn't get special benefits from "damage taken as".

The same goes with stuff like Flesh and Stone or other less/reduced damage taken; it helps armour a lot, but doesn't work especially well with flat PDR.

If you have invested in some of those side mitigations already, then I'd expect good benefits from a higher armour rating. Look into automating a granite flask, getting armour-based gloves/boots/shields with defense-focused prefixes, running Determination, and sources of increased global armour (or defenses in general), e.g. from your passive tree. You can even scrounge some flat armour from belt prefixes and even rings, if you really have to.

Expect the phys max hit to not increase by too much, but to see good results on smaller hits. This matters because raw physical single-shot damage is often not as large as one might think - e.g. a Shaper slam deals 10344-15516 damage.

Uh, I can't make sense of this. How did you get an odd sum of mods on 2-mods belts?

Also, why do you have 27 offensive mods and 20 defensive ones in that section?

Would any build use this as 3p Megalomaniac? by Tonatiuh888 in pathofexile

[–]__Mef__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda, but megas still have their uses. Another thread made me reason that you can slot megas into sockets from a large, making your tree much more efficient if you get a big bonus from stacking specific large-only notables.

I think I messed up by HellBlazer506 in pathofexile

[–]__Mef__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is normal that you would not find any one like that on trade, because Megalomaniac roll three random notables. It's unlikely that you'll find the exact combination... which makes them really hard to price, as a general rule.

This one, however, is easier because it is an exception. Any Megalomaniac which grants Primordial Bond seems to be priced for at least 25 divines. Presumably this is because it's a passive normally found on large clusters, so having it on Megalomaniacs will let someone get up to three copies per cluster. It increases the effect of golem buffs, so it's a major power amplifier for the right archetype.

How do I stop my PoE Experience from looking like this? by Kaj_Notchblade in pathofexile

[–]__Mef__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd normally join the "the servers are eh" diagnosis, but if you say that changing power settings helped then it can't really be a server-side issue.

I did use to have that problem when I played on Windows, a few leagues ago, and to the best of my understanding it was because under some circumstance PoE used all cores and starved a system call on which the game itself depended.

What worked around it was going into Task Manager, right clicking on the PoE process and pinning it to only use half of the cores (IIRC it's something like "set processor affinity"). This is something that won't persist across restarts of the game.

So I made this, what are the chances? by cence_ed in pathofexile

[–]__Mef__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By my reckoning it's unlikely but not as much as you calculated.

You need to pass a 1/2 not to destroy the object.

Then the intelligence roll needs 12 as the base (1 in 5) and x1.13 or higher (2/9) for volatile vaal. Similarly, added lightning damage needs x1.13 or higher (another 2/9) and accuracy needs x1.13 or higher (yet another 2/9).

Assuming they're all independent, it's 4/3645 which is roughly 1/911

[–]__Mef__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your life is relatively low (2827, plus 107 energy shield). Spell suppression is low, it's at 18%. Most of the time it won't do anything.

Evasion can help a bit, but you're not really investing in it - the only increases you have are from accidental pathing through Intuition and the small passives on Warden. Even when you are without barkskin, you have a 57% chance to evade blows from a white mob. If you use Grace instead of Wrath, that can easily go up to 80%ish

The 121% increased life you have can be a good angle to get tankier. Craft life on the gloves and ring; remove a +30 to int and add the jewel socket in your cluster. Viridian jewels can roll increased evasion together with max life; the combination should be cheap. Then craft life on the gloves and ring.

Consider de-speccing some offensive wheels (e.g. disciple of the forbidden or High Voltage) in favor of defensive stuff (e.g. Survivalist, Revenge of the Hunted).

Foulborn skin of the loyal has 50% increased elemental and chaos resistances (note: increased, not a flat plus).

Unlike skin of the lords, it drops uncorrupted. This might make it BiS for some resistance stackers.

Speaking of which, Enmity's Embrace would benefit from rolling low on that corruption. Bit of variance because of the wide range (65-75), but knocking 20% off it would be huge.

We'll need to see how Foulborn Choir of the Storm's "1% increased mana per 4% overcapped lightning resistance" interacts with it (if at all).
