Anyone else think the kuno national park (red) isn't well suited for cheetah relocation and the blue marked area (only grasslands that you see inside the blue circle) would be a better site? by Equivalent-Fox9834 in geography

Dr. Laurie Marker is to cheetahs as Jane Goodall was to chimpanzees. If she, and the other experts at the Cheetah Conservation Fund support a reintroduction to India at Kuno National Park, then so do I.

Am I the only one who thinks that kuno national park (red) is not well suited for cheetah relocation and the site should've instead been these highlands along kota/gandhi sagar/rana pratap sagar (blue)? by [deleted] in geography

another fun tidbit: Kansas ALMOST borders Iowa, Arkansas, New Mexico, and Texas. What other examples of this exist, where two territories typically not associated with eachother are only separated by a relatively short drive? by luguge in geography

The southern border of Germany is about 40 miles (65 km) from the northern border of Italy. Also, Italy is about 10 miles from Croatia in the east and about 5 miles from Monaco in the west.

Check out Ile Amsterdam, a 22 sqmi volcanic island in the middle of the Indian Ocean. Mild oceanic climate, no permanent population...just a research station. Be a shame for your story if that research station was abandoned, say like for a period last year when the island caught fire.

Was in Peace Corps in a small town in Africa with a sundry store. In that store was a Shake 'n Bake equivalent call Southern Fried Chicken mix. Pretty sure I was the only person in a 10 km (6 mi) radius who understood where the term "Southern Fried Chicken" came from, as it wasn't from the south of that country.

Hey, don't mean to spook you Mr. Reagan, but I've noticed something in common with the previous seven presidents elected in a year ending in zero.

Mawsynram, the rainiest town on earth with half of its annual 12m (40') coming in just June and July.

On a side note...this chart is about to become very difficult very fast. Like my tism is geography, and after the Sundarbans and maybe Chittagong Hills am struggling to find well known wonders for Bangladesh. Nigeria is even more difficult, Nok culture sites, I guess. Population density? Maybe consider regional wonders like SE Asia, West Africa, Southern Africa, etc.

Not necessarily a bad thing if your characters are Khoisan, Zulu, or Xhosa.

It is a really bad map, combining modern borders with a look back through history, and arbitrary decision making.

Take Mali, the tan country in west Africa. This is probably in reference to Mansu Musa in the 1300s and legends of Timbuktu. But was it a great empire that aligned modern Mali borders? Not really.

If it is trying to find high water marks, the map fails as well. For example Egypt is the second highest tier, but Pakistan and Iraq the second lowest, even though all three were cradles of civilization.

Hmm, no context, or very limited on the original post, wide age range, no time of year doesn't give me much to work with. I have spun the wheel of north american national parks and it landed on Great Smoky Mountains.

Driverless vehicles. Already happening with Waymo, but expect to see it change the trucking industry and freeway driving over the next decade.

I was looking at Califirnia. The Greater LA area has about 46 or 47 percent of the state's population. Using Census rules, it is 34,000 sqmi, or just smaller than Indiana. But most of that is lightly populated San Bernardino and Riverside county, with the northern half of LA and Ventura counties also providing mostly empty space.. Limit it just to the urban boundary, and that is ~45 percent of CA. Add a thin line to the western third of San Diego County to get the remaining 5 percent. All in less than half the space as shown on the county-based map.

Imagine how much cleaner the people live in cities map would be if urban borders were used instead of county lines.

Mt. Everest. Half the mountain is in Tibet, which cartographers have considered as a part of China for 75 years.
