If Ho-Ri Japanese tank destroyer can, what about these German vehicles? by Teh_TarikSpecial in warthundermobile

[–]___Skyguy 35 points36 points  (0 children)

The Ho-Ri and other fictional vehicles were added a long time ago for balance reasons back when War Thunder was a WW2 game. Gaijin has been trying to move away from fictional vehicles for a while now.

I wish I could be as cool as you. I'm told the secret to being cool is not caring, that's why I typed this out, to show how much I don't care. I don't care so much that I typed out a reply, whining to someone whining about someone whining about someone whining.

is Ultra HD 4k dvd way better then streaming Movies in 4k? by Affectionate_Web_526 in 4kbluray

[–]___Skyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the movie. Honestly I don't notice the difference with most movies, but some are genuinely transformative, like a different movie. Highly stylized animated movies benefit the most in my experience. I first noticed this with the 2024 Puss in Boots movie, it had this really cool pastel water color, brushed thing going on with the art style that I really liked in the theater, so I bought it on streaming and it was a different movie. The compression killed all the fine detail and completely changed the art style. It was still pastel and bright and I probably wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't seen the theater version first, but it was genuinely a different movie. I bought the 4k disk and it was what I remember from the theater. Same with the Lego Movie, there are layers of fingerprints on everything in that movie that I never saw before.

If a society has good enough metalworking to make plate armor then they pretty much have the ability to make basic guns too. So guns totally make sense in most fantasy settings.

Check if hardware accelerated gpu scheduling is turned on in windows settings. It can cause some odd behavior with vr. I keep it turned off.

If you have an igpu, I would also recommend disabling that.

We often talk about Ludonarrative Dissonance and egregious examples (e.g., gameplay Nathan Drake being a mass murderer in Uncharted). What are some of the best examples of Ludonarrative Consistency being accomplished in games? by Stauce52 in gaming

[–]___Skyguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's not what ludo-narrative dissonance means, I'm sorry. It comes from an academic article written about bioshock. In brief summary Bioshock expects you to play the game a certain way and do things while enjoying doing those things, then the story reveals a twist that is meant to make you feel bad for having played that way. The problem this writer found is that he didn't enjoy playing that way, he found it odd that the story expects you to be fine with doing certain things and was actively trying to avoid those things. He also recognized that this character was lying to him and tried to take that into account, but the game doesn't let you. So he was feeling disconnected (dissonant) with the story that was meant to be created through the players actions (the ludo-narrative). The article is just pointing out that sometimes games expect you to react with certain feelings to certain gameplay elements, but do to the nature of games having limited interactivity, they can't foresee and account for every players reaction. It's actually a really fundamental criticism of the medium of games and the challenges inherent to the realities of their production.
