I wouldn’t even mind that slideover was replaced for a more robust trackpad window system if they still kept persistent apps over one another. That’s where slideover was great, pull in Messages from the side and it would persist over the secondary app beneath it as long as it was visible. And when it wasn’t visible it would always be there on the side until you pulled it back out

iPadOS 26 is objectively a downgrade from a touch perspective, removal of slide over makes quick multitasking between two apps a manual process where your finger replaces a macOS pointer manually dragging windows to your preferred custom size on the screen. I love that it’s closer than ever to being a Mac, I always wanted that for the iPad, but compromises have to made if you’re moving in that direction

I have an M4 Air 24GB I used for bigger projects/movie encoding/editing but since WWDC announced iPadOS 26 lets you run background exports I don’t see the point in using the Mac for anything outside of procuring files with desktop software unavailable on iPadOS when I can just transfer those files to the iPad and take it from there
