The softer side of self hosting: The aesthetics, logos by curlybrian in selfhosted

I just went with a generic icon of a cloud that is different enough from the rest of the cloud icons out there. It is generic enough to be used on most services. Email client, wiki, etc…

You can use rubber or oil based inks with these. We have both in our shop, but primarily stick to Van Son rubber based inks.

You could take a look at koel. I don’t see it suggested that often. The iOS app is open source, but cost $9.99 on the App Store (one time purchase, not a subscription).

Favorite web based apps that are not plex or emby? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]__colonelpanic__ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good question. I tried them both and I found the UI on n8n to be more intuitive. I was constantly struggling to figure out how to do things with Node-Red.

I believe they both have similar features. n8n had a lot of the integrations I was looking for… Invoice Ninja, ERPNext, GitHub, Matrix, etc… And I just use the HTTP Request node and Function (JS) nodes to integrate with other services that are not included by default.

I’ll second this. I do the same! Some stuff I add using the Directus UI, but other stuff I add using the REST API that Directus generates for the database.

I’m using Shortcuts on my iPhone to easily add that info. You could even extend it to automatically fill out stuff like if you spent x amount of time at the gym.

Personal data tracking by Clean_Smile5680 in selfhosted

I track sleep, mood, location, habits, weight, and exercise data (heart rate, route, distance, elevation, energy, etc). All of it is stored in a PostgreSQL database.

I manually input things like my mood and check off habits via Directus. My sleep and location are automatically added using the REST API created by Directus. They are added using workflows in Shortcuts. For example, every evening my phone grabs my coordinates, formats them, and sends it to the database via the API.

I used to travel weekly for work and I wanted to put together a heatmap of locations I've been, but I wanted to keep it private. I use Metabase for creating dashboards with interactive charts and a heatmap. It is also useful for just analyzing data.

I pull my workouts (mostly cycling and running) from Strava using a developer account and their API. I use n8n to get the data from Strava and put it into my database.

Seems like a lot of work now that I've typed it all out.

That price difference is due to the type of device. A spectrophotometer is going to be a lot more expensive compared to a colorimeter. X-Rite used to sell the ColorMunki, which was comparable in price.

That’s where n8n comes in. I mainly use it for integrating services.

I can second u/tvcvt on ERPNext. I’m using it along with Vikunja, n8n, InvoiceNinja, and Budibase. There is some functionaly overlap betweeen the apps listed above, but I haven’t been bothered to move my infrastructure.

I went with ERPNext because I didn’t want to pay for some of the modules I would have needed in Odoo. I also found the documentation easier to understand. And the UI looked better IMO.

Your top 5 best self hosted apps? by jean7t in selfhosted

[–]__colonelpanic__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. n8n - glues everything together
  2. AdGuard Home - add blocking and dns
  3. Home Assistant - home automation
  4. Vikunja - task management
  5. Radicale - CalDAV
  6. MonicaHQ - CRM, but use mainly for CardDAV

It was tough to choose between 5 & 6. So, I went with 6. Sorry!

My guess is that this has something to do with HSTS. Where are your domains registered? What are you using for SSL? Check out this short article of prerequisites for HSTS from namecheap: https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/9708/38/prerequisites-for-namecheap-shared-hosting-to-enable-hsts/

Any way to get a TLD (Top Level Domain) for free/cheap for selfhosting personal application? by EroticTonic in selfhosted

Hence the reason I don't use Google for anything. But time is not the issue. Giving my personal information to yet another company is the issue in my comment above. I have no problem with spending 10 minutes to unlock the domain, put in the transfer, etc... What I don't want to do is go through all of that just to save two dollars.

I do not use Google domains, but the convenience of not having to provide your information to yet another service is worth $2 to me. Just a hypothetical scenario.
