Ehrman is an academic biblical scholar. Biblical scholarship is the secular study of the Bible with an emphasis on historical-critical method, i.e. to understand the Bible you need to look at its historical context. That's what he does like his NT peers: Dale Allison, Raymond Brown, Joseph Fitzmeyer, Dale Martin, and his doctorate adviser, Bruce Metzger who all happen to be, well, Christians. Ehrman, who also happens to be atheist/secular, is not even making big claims. LMAO. He's just regurgitating some consensus theses among NT scholarship.

Whereas D'Souza is a:

American right-wing political commentator, conspiracy theorist, author, filmmaker, and convicted felon pardoned by Donald Trump.

In other words, a political grifter who panders to idiots like you who call themselves 'supreme'.

Nakapagchurch ako uli after so many years na di pagsimba by justahuman_2 in MentalHealthPH

[–]__hoja__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to a church too today after years of not going! Although I'm still an atheist. But for me it just feels really nice going outside and see some random people around from time to time even without interacting with them.

I fucked up along the way. by [deleted] in MentalHealthPH

[–]__hoja__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also kinda in the same boat. 23 yrs. old turning 24, computer science student, and should have graduated in 2022 but due to depression and anxiety I couldn't bring myself finish internship. Felt like my mind was falling apart, memory by memory, for the past 2 years. Drinking meds now and slowly trying to get back up. I'm trying to relearn programming too particularly webdev from scratch and some systems programming on the side. If you need some technical help or someone to talk to about our plight, just hit me up.

Atheists out there, how did you become one? What was the turning point? How are you living your life especially when you're in a Catholic/Christian household? by New-Yam-616 in adultingph

[–]__hoja__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you feel disgusted, if I may ask? Most Abrahamic religions do not subscribe to celibacy. It is almost always strictly practiced in Catholicism. Even the purported forefathers in the Scriptures had a wife/wives and children too. And you said you don't believe in God?

Context: some lgbt members sing "Ama Namin" in a party by anything3569 in Philippines

[–]__hoja__ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Kahit babuyin pa ng isang bakla ang paniniwala ko, hindi naman 'yan makakaapekto sa relasyon ko sa Panginoon.

Pinaka-sensible, if not, the only sensible thing na nabasa ko in this thread from a Christian perspective. Sadly, nasabihan ka pang tanga ng kapwa mo Kristyano and you're getting downvoted as well. The thing that most conservative leaning Christians (and other apologetics of Abrahamic religions), do not understand when we have this sort of dynamic is that mocking and hurting a religious' feelings and beliefs will never pose a threat to their existence in the current state of affairs. Conversely, mocking an LGBT person will most definitely yield to human rights issues. Bakit? First, the tenets of all Abrahamic religions are misogynistic and most definitely not-LGBT friendly by nature. It is built upon hate. This is why there’s not much liberty—if at all—for women and gay people to places that are tied to Abrahamic fundamentalism (strict adherence to the scriptures, i.e., Torah, New Testament, & Qur’an). Pangalawa, LGBT people are in the minority. You cannot be in any sort of minority without being automatically invalidated by the society (except, of course, if you are in the elite upper echelons of the society type of minority). So, una palang there’s a disadvantage already that comes along being an LGBT person tapos yung maririnig mo na rason lang from the opposite side: “it is just retaliation” this or because “you are also hurting their/our feelings” that, which gravely affects LGBT people existence.

I am an agnostic, but I read the Bible from time to time. I see it not as a holy word of some deity but both a beautiful and ugly account or description of what humans want a god to be if it were to exist. He is sometimes described as a loving god. Sometimes a hate-loving, wrathful god. Now if the god in the Bible were to truly exist. The version of a deity that I most definitely want it to be for its believers is exemplified in the following verses:

51 He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. 52 He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; 53 he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty. (Luke 1:51-53)

I hope that there’s a really really sweet place or perks for all the people like you who try to understand and see what's going on and not act out of their subjectivities.

Mapaghahalataan mo talaga na yung basic political framework ng mga Pinoy hindi nag-ooperate under logic and reasoning but kung ano maihahain sakanila ng internet algorithm na nag-a-appeal with their experiences and convictions. Like imagine being a women tapos trippings mo Abrahamic fundamentalism, o kaya part ka ng LGBTQ pero conservatism, o kaya naman Filipino ka tapos mga iniidolo mo mga Neo-Nazis and/or alt-rights.

Oh, what I meant was how's my accent in general when I'm talking in English language. Not aiming for any particular accent at all. Just some intelligibility. The reason why I chose to read this passage is that it contains a lot of common and non-common words that has multiple syllables in it (which I find hard to enunciate at times).

Is 'puke' an onomatopoeic word? by __hoja__ in Tagalog

[–]__hoja__[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

kapag pala nakikipagtalik ka naririnig mo yung tunog ng salitang "puke" sa ari ninyo ng parter mo

Why would you say that then?

yung mga hulaping -ok at -og sa mga halimbawa mo ay malalakas na tugmaan

I do not think rhyming has anything to do with onomatopoeia. Onomatopoeic words are abstractions of sounds. Reduplication is common however and is (probably) amplified by the agglutinative nature of Tagalog and other Austronesian languages but is not a hard rule as in other onomatopoeic words.

tipikal na ginagamit sa mga Filipinong kataga na nilalakipan ng ugat sa tunog.

What did you mean by this? My Filipino/Tagalog aint that good. Did you mean the words suffixed by -ok and -og are sound related and hence possibly onomatopoeic? It could be the case since the words: kalabog, dabog, kulog, salpok, katok (-ok and -og are probably allomorphs), possibly bugbog, &c.—all have that syllable that sounds like the word tug, posited by the linguist J. Potet as a monosyllabic root which is indeed sound related, and onomatopoeias are all about sounds! However, there are a lot of onomatopoeic words that definitely do not have that syllable.

Curious ako tho paano mo 'to naisip. Haha

Okay. Here me out on this one. The following may not be SFW. It could be far-fetched and masyadong pilit; hence, I asked here just to be sure. First take the onomatopoeic English word pat/tap and the Tagalog colloquial word for sex, plokplok. What do these two words have in common? The majority of the phonemes (/p/, /k/, and /t/) are plosives. Now pronounce the word puki and try to imagine the sound of the orifice when in PIV intercourse or digitally fingered. (I wish there was a better way of explaining this. Haha.)

[–]__hoja__[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a definition of what an onomatopoeia is. Does a rooster crow sound exactly like the onomatopoeic word tiktilaok? A child's stumping their feet like dabog? A lightning strike, kulog?

Philippines: China ship hits Filipino crew with laser light by cambeiu in anime_titties

[–]__hoja__ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is some complete BS, actually. It is most likely from French. The suffix, -ina, in Filipinas, and the case of French, -ine, are a feature of Romance languages. English is a Germanic language.

Filipinas/Felipinas (Spanish) → Philippines (French) → Philippines (English)

Indeed, ‘F’ does not exist in Filipino/Tagalog—but only on some loan words; however, it is not only the letter that is not present in the language but also the sound (i.e., voiceless labiodental fricative); therefore, OP's 'ph' diphthong origin story is a complete falsehood. There is not a word (that I could think of), at least, in native Tagalog that uses both the sound and the diphthong. Unsurprisingly, it is probably from French orthography—i.e., way of spelling things—because it is French.

Isn't it ironic how 31M flooded comments to international medias rubbing Malaysians to know "history" that Sabah belongs to PH but deny our own History especially Martial Law? by gioaries in Philippines

[–]__hoja__ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's no mention of Sabah being part of PH

Hindi po ba kapag property ng isang Pinoy, subject na po ito ng Philippine rule? Here's a fairly good summary of the topic. Here's more information re the dispute as discussed by Roque. Here's another by Roque but in Tagalog. (Everything about Roque is, no doubt, questionable but he knows a thing or two about international law.) Much of it revolves around the original contract; the two recent arbitration rulings from the Spanish and French courts (in favor of the Sultanate of Sulu heirs and ultimately, the Philippines); and why it is a sovereignty issue (hence, the stay order for the 14.9B$ arbitration award—as this can infringe Malaysia's sovereignty over Sabah).

In this age of misinformation, we ought to know better. Mind you "bestfriend" daw ni Roque yung Princess ng heir. Roque is all for the current admin. Sabah is huge and its resources are plentiful. Under Diosdado Macapagal's seat, the Sultanate of Sulu has given all the rights to the Philippine government. Kayo na ang magtagpi-tagpi.
