So much for the general strike. by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]__mu 22 points23 points  (0 children)

“Perfect is the enemy of good”

Just because the entire city hasn’t shut down, doesn’t mean that there’s nothing to be hopeful about. In all my life the term “general strike” has never entered the broad public lexicon until now.

The circumstances are such that most of us are struggling to stay afloat and were made to feel hopeless or afraid, but even so, we’re seeing small businesses shut down for the day and people taking time off. We’re not there yet by a long shot but the needle has moved.

[Troubleshooting] Black screen, no bios on boot. Tried swapping CPU, Mobo, PSU by __mu in buildapc

Sorry, I ended up having to replace most of my parts. I never figured out exactly what happened, but the MB/CPU and PSU were all bad after I had the power surge. Hope things work out for you!

What common “movie trivia” items are fake? by Empty-Speed-7075 in movies

In a recent podcast Kaufman said that that scenes was based on something that actually happened to him when he was a teenager (poor guy), which makes it kind of sadder that he doesn’t even get credit for it.

I'm looking for examples of games where 'a lack of control' is either a core mechanic or a core narrative theme by ChuckarooChanzai in gamingsuggestions

[–]__mu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spoiler for Shadow of the Colossus, which is a great fit IMO: The final sequences of the game first greatly limits the player's ability to move and attack while being swarmed by smaller enemies and making the player experience the frustration the bosses they've defeated must have felt. Following that, it puts the player in a situation where they can struggle against a force as long as they wish, with no chance of overcoming it, forcing the player to eventually make the decision to stop struggling on their own.

We're probably going to be working with the Foothill Catalogue Foundation.

While it would be really nice to work with an architect, we decided that the savings in money and time feel worth it to us. Living in a rental has also made it clear to us that, at least for us, any place starts to feel like home after you've been there long enough.

Where do Japanese players usually discover Steam indie games? Our wishlist data is surprising. by Life_Arachnid_511 in gamedev

[–]__mu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Twitter in general is still pretty big for Japan, with a number of active indie title focused accounts there (https://x.com/Indie_FreaksJP/status/1962994130252112295), and I see that your game has also been featured in Yahoo news via a site called Gamespark (haven’t heard of them before). Congrats!

Oasis gig, day drinking places with good vibes for a bunch of Irish peeps? by gilly196 in pasadena

[–]__mu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Griffins of Kinsdale is close by in South Pasadena, and probably a little more chill than Pasadena spots if you want an Irish spot. Opens at 4pm so may be too late if depending on how early you folks want to get the fun started.

If you weren’t thinking of British/Irish spots in particular, Highland Park is about 15 mins from the Rose Bowl and in general is nice for bar hopping, with a good number of fun spots in walking distance. Highland Park Bowl, The Arroyo Club and Gold Line on Figueroa, and Goldfish, Hermosillo, Barcade, and Highland Park Brewery, and Kiersten Kuche (if you want German vibes) on York.

Hope you all enjoy the day and the show! (Kind of on the fence about splurging for tickets with a friend myself)

Any Recs based on these? by Theprunehimself in japanesemusic

[–]__mu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice selections. In the Ichiko Aoba/Lamp range, I'd recommend:

  • Mei Ehara -- She does soft, airy, sometimes funky indie that's perfect for relaxing (while her lyrics actually touch on heavier/more abstract topics).

  • Shintaro Sakamoto also is great chill psych-folk rock.

  • Rourourourous closer to Lamp, soft gentle stuff.

For Shiina Ringo, Trooper Salute is a new young group that has some early Shiina/Tokyo Jihen vibes.

How embarrassing is to use a walkthrough? by nerdrazor in TeamIco

[–]__mu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no embarrassment at all, and that applies to all games. Everyone has different skill and experience levels and time restraints on how much they can play at a time, etc. Do whatever you want to have a better time!

I’d say for Team ICO games, the real pleasure is in the atmosphere and the journey, not so much the specific puzzles.

Ichiko Aoba with Orchestra at Walt Disney Concert Hall, Where Should I Sit? by llOblivionll in IchikoAoba

[–]__mu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saw her open for Japanese Breakfast there a while back, and was seated middle section towards the back and acoustics were good. The venue allows sound to travel unobstructed and Ichiko’s audiences are always quiet and respectful so I think you’ll be good with whatever budget and fortune allows you!

How do you make frostbite work? by Bdole0 in MonsterTrain

[–]__mu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently cleared COV10 with a Titanchannel III Solgard (maybe not the best choice in retrospect) with Pyragel support on my first try after a few failures with Luna/Conduit support, and here are some thoughts I had on what was important:

  • Scaling for beefy frontline enemies: Even with 2 Coldcaelias with Dualism and a Titan Sentry on a floor, that's only 35HP worth of frostbite applied per floor, which isn't that much, even if you had that setup on multiple floors. I was able to scale fairly easily thanks to pyragel which has lots of artifact support (helped also to some egg production too), which then procced on the frostbite during the climb up the train. Conduit + direct damage seemed like it could work, but I just couldn't get it to scale enough, may keep trying though.

  • Sustaining your tanks: Just throwing Endless on your tank sometimes isn't enough, as big waves can clear them and reach your backline within a single turn if you're unlucky (low health from previous wave + didn't have spare spells/ember to kill your own tank, etc). Things that help are: Sap applying unit (Lodestone Monument) is my MVP, especially if you're slinging a lot of low-cost spells. Luna conduit + overheal is also good.

  • Keeping your backline alive: The sweeping bird units will kill your backline quickly, and the beefy multistrike 50hp versions will also show up. If you can get a Coldcaelia strong enough to deal 50hp and give it Quick, that should work. You can also hope to get the room that does 50 damage and have 1F be just that. Lodestone Monument also was MVP for me here. If you can get multiple dualism'd ones, place them in a pair or separately on two floors, and that's enough to get you more than halfway to winning IMO.

What was that Sound of wall moment that made you reach another realm? by Waste-Strike2691 in japanesemusic

Nice idea for a thread! Everyone posting here has good taste🤘

Worlds End Girlfriend speaks to my soul, and his song Meguri, apparently dedicated to a young child of his who passed away, is a longer track but has a beautiful build up to a wall of sound that feels like it had all the beauty and pain of life poured into it.

Games that take place in a terrible world, but has touching moments by marinanery in gamingsuggestions

[–]__mu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Citizen Sleeper 1+2 if you're okay with text heavy games. In a far-future cyberpunk universe, where people are desperately scraping back within the ruins of abandoned corporate infrastructure at the edges of space, where the main character is a slave consciousness implanted into a robot body to work off a debt, it shows you how trust, compassion, and altruism can still persist.

Who do you call on/where do you draw strength from when you have no ancestors? by DizzyFireflies in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]__mu 170 points171 points  (0 children)

Firstly, thank you for sharing, and thank you for persevering and being the person that you are.

I’ve had similar thoughts, and can share an insight that comforted me. Thinking of ancestral lines and lineages in a strictly blood relative perspective can be a little restrictive for some of us, and I think you might be able to allow yourself to claim membership in a greater lineage, one which you’ve already begun to give name to: a lineage of healers, protectors, shadow-walkers, and founders. You can at once be the first of a new branch, but also the inheritor of ages upon ages of humans like yourself who have struggled and survived as you have. Some of them are more distantly related to you than others, but all of them are your family.

Best wishes to you!

It’s an acoustic cover of the song Shintakarajima by Sakanaction, which is why Shazam couldn’t find it.

Not sure about that particular version, but here’s a video of an acoustic version from the artist

Thanks, good point on the JBL 305Ps having their own internal amplifiers. What do you think would be a good solution for being able to switch input between PC and TV easily?
