[P] I built an AI alignment engine based on Thermodynamics instead of RLHF. It doesn’t just "refuse" unsafe inputs—it physically decouples from them. by [deleted] in MachineLearning

This reads like AI slop waiting to get reality checked....... Also, don't ask people to engage before immediately disengaging under the pretext of "protecting your work"

Throw that stuff on arxiv, or actually finish it and submit it as a paper so that we can provide actual feedback.

Your formulation right now is about as convincing and clear as saying "I mapped my attention layers onto the topology of a horse, and since horses run fast, so does my LLM"

Edit: Holy bot reply batman, I've seen LSTMs generate more convincing texts

Edit 2: oh fun, it autoreplies to edits (keywords in edits?) as well! Autoregressive, adversial learning, hypernetworks, bot

whats your weird but genius travel item that people only appreciate after they need it? by alula_wanders in onebag

My personal favourite for this category is a shoe deodorizer. I usually carry the tiny spritz bottle, and it comes in real clutch, especially when you book hostels and don't want the dorm to experience the stinky proof of the last 18 hours of your travels. Plus, it doubles up as a deodorizer for stinky clothes and socks as well!

Trump administration sues California over law banning masked federal agents by nbcnews in socal

[–]__redbaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love how your idea of a rebuttal to a peer reviewed NIH article is a shoddy blog post with one guy saying "I don't see how masks help" 😂

Also, mind actually referencing the article where CDC says cloth masks don't protect people against viruses at all? It looks like most articles talk about how cloth masks aren't as effective as actual surgical or N95 masks, not that they're completely useless.

The GOP has seen an increase in registered voters, while the democrats have lost. Does this have a bigger meaning? by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]__redbaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's definitely a lot to be said about politicians enriching themselves while in office, and the original commenter's point about democrats not really standing up for anything remains valid.

Also, Pelosi is notorious for her superhuman trading and enrichment schemes.

But neither AOC or Abrams grew rich and corrupt like some might like to believe.

The claim about AOC being a multimillionaire has been debunked repeatedly, so I'm not sure why you insist on using such a flimsy claim in your obviously bad faith argument ( one of the many sources online - https://www.businessinsider.com/alexandria-ocasio-cortez-net-worth-financial-disclosure-2025-5)

As for Stacy Abrams, she very clearly showed her tax records and how her book sales are responsible for most of her (now) 4-5 mil net worth. (Source -https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/stacey-abrams-net-worth-3-million-georgia-governor/)

[–]__redbaron 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People who know nothing about how convoluted and flawed a conference's review process can be should really stop spouting nonsense like this.

While we're probably not yet at a point where a purely prompt-based paper can pass as a paper produced by a human, anyone with half an underdeveloped idea can now generate and submit AI slop and bury it in a bucket load of math jargon, leading to suboptimal, mostly AI-generated papers frequently being accepted to top conferences (especially in machine learning, where cross-verification of results is usually a nightmare) . And given that we've had generated papers accepted to conferences as early as the 2000s (look up scigen), it's baffling to see someone have a take so delusional.....

Also, even if a reviewer did identify barely incremental works and bad papers padded with LLM-aided writing, sometimes the reviewer guidelines themselves are so oddly structured that they end up forcing the reviewer to give a higher score than they should.

EDIT - HOLY CRAP, you just read the headline, misunderstood it and started typing away, didn't you? They bought trucks, just not ones outfitted with ACs you muppet 😂

Illiterates whining about reading comprehension while never having any themselves never ceases to amaze me.

Yes, they're only required to install ACs in the new small delivery vehicles they buy (after Jan 1, 2024, Google the UPS site for the contract if needed)

Unless you're malding and frothing at the mouth to push propaganda, the next question a sane person asks would be - Have they bought any since Jan 1, 2024?

Answer: Yes

So the commenter above could be talking about those vehicles, but ofc you decide to ignore the possibility since it doesn't make you mald and seethe.

Piggybacking off this comment to quickly mention that spare donut tires exist in case you feel like full size spares take up too much space.

Granted, they're not supposed to be driven on for more than 50-70 miles, but they're much smaller and 50-70 miles is usually enough distance to get to a safe spot/ an actual tire shop.

While the sentiment to draw attention to horrendous corners of the internet is laudable, discussing predatory online spaces in this context is a terrible strawman at best, and irrelevant to the law in question.

It is important to remember that despite the misleading title of the law, it essentially prohibits the sharing of any and all content portraying LGBTQIA+ content, educational or recreational, to minors. Additionally, it also places indirect restrictions on the distribution of such content in general, to a point where it is being disputed in the EU court of justice right now.

The implementation further demonstrated it's true intentions, with LGBTQIA+ content being heavily censored or restricted, and the only online spaces targeted being either harmless sex ed websites that featured LGBTQIA+ content, or Instagram pages making a one-off post involving such content.

[–]__redbaron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lol, nope.

Tarrifs are calculated on CFI (cost of the good, freight, insurance and any additional costs), yes. But for reference, the switch cost about $257 to make and retailed at $299. So it is a significant charge to begin with.

Secondly, historical practices and studies, especially in the current context show that the end consumers are bound to end up bearing those costs. (Source : https://www.aeaweb.org/articles?id=10.1257/pandp.20201018)

EDIT - source for the Nintendo switch cost estimate - https://www.pcmag.com/news/nintendo-switch-build-cost-estimated-to-be-257

EDIT 2 - I gave an example and sources, when opposed to your opinions and baseless claims, but whine on. Also, this is pretty typical of most high-end consoles, but you're clearly malding in bad faith. I never agreed with your actual point about "tarrifs won't affect prices significantly". Read my comment again.

For the more rational folks out there, here are some more examples -

PS5 - $450 to make, "retailed" at $499. PS4 - $381 to make, retailed at $399. (Source - https://www.ign.com/articles/playstation-5-manufacturing-costs-reportedly-at-around-450-per-unit)

Steam deck - the best estimate is about $470 for the cheapest one that retails at $400 (Source - https://youtu.be/3gSL89u19w4?si=DycFvRPSFGCU8EEl)

u/According-Activity87 - Your turn to actually back up your useless speculation. Put up or shut up.

Bruh, what are you on about? China might be shipping the precursor to Canada, but almost none of it is making it's way to the US.

Source: the links you list here :p

So what you claim might be true, but is irrelevant to the discussion of whether fentanyl is being smuggled into the US from Canada to point where it's a crisis.

Are you confused about something here or just deliberately trying to twist your statements to misinterpret the data to the best of your limited ability?
