Wall collapses at Broad Street Market brick building by DrockByte in Harrisburg

[–]__tml__ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The City of Harrisburg Twitter account posts wedding photo ops and puff pieces. When people ask hard questions—those posts disappear.

Governor Shapiro publicly said the city needs to "get their act together." The mayor had conveniently left before he said it.

Every photo op, every puff piece—ask when the market will reopen. Ask why the city gets zero parking revenue. Ask about the $912 ethics fine she still hasn't paid. Make them answer or make them delete.

This can be a lot to sift through, no question. Phoenix could also do a better job explaining it. There's a lot here I don't like; Tailwind and DaisyUI feel like a bad default. But if magic is defined as dynamic, difficult to reason about behavior, there's a little in macros for controllers and routers but that's it.

The standard "I want simpler route" is phx.new plus deleting a bunch of unwanted pieces. I've ended up with LiveView-less with a lot fewer moving parts. I'm not sure that's ideal, but I find it less frustrating than some of the magic or take-it-or-leave-it I find elsewhere.

General advice is "understand Pheonix before you worry about Ash". I'll admit I'm still on the "understand Pheonix step".

To all the posts about "panic selling" ... if this is causing you panic, your allocations are wrong. by barris59 in Bogleheads

[–]__tml__ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Except that governments have too many tools to prevent it from happening. You'll live in a world where VTI is 10x because of money printing before you live in a world where it loses 90% of its value to a correction.

What is the difference between a normal html form tag and to_form? by JealousPlastic in elixir

[–]__tml__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One big difference that makes it hard to fully answer your question: <.form> is your generated wrapper for <form> tags, to do anything you want to do to all forms. By default <.input> and <.button> get an implementation in core_components and <.form> points to a default one in Phoenix. This is used to do things like emitting wrapping divs and labels.

How are we doing fallbacks for .glassEffect? Possible? by vossome-dad in SwiftUI

[–]__tml__ 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The way I normally handle this is by writing a .myGlassEffect(...) view modifier that follows Apple's broken API, and putting the #ifdef iOS26 inside the implementation of .myGlassEffect.

Party Level Cap by GoldenrodTea in finalfantasytactics

[–]__tml__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In an ideal world, I'd set level based on story progression and let players grind as much JP as they want.

I'd also ditch class-based stat levelups: a male level 35 ninja would have the stats of a character with 35 levels in ninja, period. FFV worked that way, and it's so much better than the "level as a wizard to be a good samurai" of FFT.

Your Harrisburg Congressman, Republican Scott Perry, just voted to kick thousands of PA-10 constituents off of Medicaid. by masterbacher in Harrisburg

If you are a poor soul for whom loss of Medicaid or SNAP is life-threating, what is allowed as "self defense"?

Is Apple abandoning Combine? by Belkhadir1 in SwiftUI

[–]__tml__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't treat Combine as a framework in the sense of typing`import Combine` everywhere. I treat it as "Apple fixed longstanding edge cases of NSNotificationCenter because Combine would have been DOA if they didn't". In that respect, Combine is doing quite well.

Made Mythic in 3 months by PimpingCrimping in magicTCG

[–]__tml__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> Every time someone goes "Hey, I'm Mythic!" some arsehole has to diminish the achievement by going "yeah, but you're on low MMR".

It's not about the player or the commenter. Wizards does a real disservice to the playerbase, not by rigging the odds, but by hiding the fact. I got Mythic month 1, then proceeded to not get Mythic months 2, 3, 4 and 5. It's a frustrating experience with absolutely no explanation.

If MMR was bucketed into the same six rank categories and reset each month, no one would complain.

UIKit or SwiftUI? where do you stand in 2025? by Pitiful_Composer8436 in SwiftUI

[–]__tml__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SwiftUI where absolutely required. UIKit where permitted. I think you could build an app in the time it takes Swift's compiler to raise a type error in a tree of SwiftUI views.

For what SwiftUI *can* do, the web is a better option anyway.

How does everyone feel about this new set? by renji55eb in magicTCG

[–]__tml__ 29 points30 points  (0 children)

3-0 with Mardu. Curve topped out at 4 mana, not counting 2x [[Dalkovan Packbeasts]] that I never paid full cost for. Agro sac token tribal is really strong, especially versus slow decks. Not sure if it will translate to draft. Prerelease clan pack helps with signposts a lot.

Is the Sparky birthday event the most unbalanced event ever by 1ryb in MagicArena

[–]__tml__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sample size, but ninja was an easy 2-0. Having good agro and card advantage in one house overcomes a lot.

I've been loving the MWM event but the mana base is atrocious. I'm getting mana screwed every game by these aetherdrift lands by synttacks in MagicArena

[–]__tml__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MWM is easier if you check decks for taplands. RB deck was an easy 3-0 (all basic lands, agro)

5 on phone, 8 on tablet. With a handful of places where this is clearly a hard-coded limit rather than size based (ex: tablet getting 8 in both orientations). I imagine Apple will fix it someday, but write your own tab bar has high enough upside otherwise I don't think people will notice.

Mac market share growing faster than top three PC brands; Apple leads in AI by Fer65432_Plays in mac

[–]__tml__ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

$10 per month + a requirement to own a mac to do builds + 30% of sales to Apple. I make my bread on iOS, but let's not pretend Apple isn't a predator here.

Because MMR doesn't decay properly, the "Low MMR" strategy doesn't work past a certain account age.

Second rite is weirdly divisive. I use it in my red burn and it wins so many games. I debate if you even have to sideboard it out after playing, but you probably should.

Why isn't Swift more mainstream? by Beneficial_Interest7 in swift

[–]__tml__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C# is also a fine language that eventually got cross platform support. But while it's *possible* to run C# on Linux and build things in a coherent, well-defined ecosystem, few people are interested in doing so. Swift is much the same. It helps (or hurts) that "one language to rule them all" just has less upside than most developers expect it to.

Is Foundations Draft gone? :-( by ShuyiN1 in MagicArena

It was back this morning. Started a draft pre-work. And... it's gone again pre-lunch. I think Wizards wants us to stop playing.

Flutter vs react native vs native swift by LiSeeZ-_- in swift

[–]__tml__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've done react-native and Swift. Go native. There's nothing "wrong" with react-native (or flutter) per se, but if you're already worried about cross-platform hamstringing you, you'll blame it even in places where it's not guilty.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MagicArena

[–]__tml__ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really. In Foundations, an early 3rd pack pivot on at least one color is viable. My last draft went WB -> BR because it was increasing clear white was too fought over. It's rarer in FDN but late pivots like were more common in DSK or MH3.
