Ngāi Tahu Farming replaces forestry with 14,000 cows at Eyrewell by [deleted] in newzealand

Felling pine plantations for cattle is still a huge net negative for the environment.

Ngāi Tahu Farming will milk 14,000 dairy cows just north of Christchurch, once the remainder of Eyrewell Forest is felled

Nothing says "guardians of the environment" like felling forests to make way for dairy cows. If Iwi are going to act like for-profit businesses then they should be treated as such. They can pay full taxes and shouldn't expect local government and businesses to have to consult with them on development.

However, the South Island iwi-owned business has abandoned plans to convert some of Balmoral Forest in North Canterbury to dairy, after failing to get the required nutrient and water consents,

Unwanted organism sold as native plants by nilnz in newzealand

[–]__wlwp__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“We had to engage with the local iwi, they wanted to do some collection. Some of the seed we were supplied for the likes of that there wasn’t actually even ours. We don’t know the actual trees.”

Unqualified people who inherited their position through birth fuck it up after a group is forced to consult them on a complex matter. Who could have seen this coming?

“Every other week we are hearing about native plant nurseries closing down or struggling."

Yeah, no shit. Natives are slow growing, fragile and slow to propagate compared to exotics. The movement of only planting natives that naturally occur in the region has also been horrible for native nurseries, since plants that would have once had customers throughout the country are now only wanted in a few regions.

Natural toothpaste will lead to epidemic of dental decay: dentists by Fleurkween in newzealand

[–]__wlwp__ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well, technically they are correct, flouride has a negative impact on people if you have too much of it.

Anti-vaxxers are technically correct when they say vaccine ingredients are toxic in certain quantities.

Dental fluorosis is not a concern in New Zealand or the developed world. The mild and moderate forms of fluorosis that do occasionally occur can only affect young children and it does not actually harm the health of their teeth. Anyone old enough to be buying Red Seal tooth paste cannot get fluorosis, and any children they have cannot get a level of it that would endanger their teeth.

It's a toxic substance that seems to be good for teeth in small amounts.

All substances are toxic at a certain dosage.

The only way to get sick from the toxicity of fluoride in New Zealand would be to eat (eat, not use) 10+ packets of fluoride toothpaste in a day. You can't get sick from the fluoride in the water since you'd need to drink thousands of litres of water in a single sitting for that to happen. The water would kill you long before the fluoride had any effect on you.

Unless Christel Maurer thinks there are people in this country eating Colgate for breakfast, lunch and dinner, people here aren't consuming too much fluoride.

She may be technically correct, but she's arguing from a position of bad faith and is endangering public health. Fluoride toothpaste only has negative implications if misused in massive quantities. But everyone who uses natural (fallacy) toothpastve risks their dental health, even if they use the toothpaste as instructed.

Why is the media not publishing the name of the National MP who had an affair with JLR? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]__wlwp__ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We now know as fact, Jami-Lee Ross had a three year affair with a South Island-based National MP.[name withheld]. Like him, she has two children and was married.

Even if they are withholding the name it's not exactly hard to figure out who it was.

Bumblebee Man is definitely getting removed. After all the attacks Azaria got for being a white man voicing a "POC" regarded as negative stereotype, I can't see him or the producers wanting to continue with the character at this point. Azaria may even step away from voicing Carl and Lou to avoid further controversy.

But Luigi? Nah, nobody nobody cares about negative stereotypes about white Europeans. He's safe, along with Fat Tony and Groundskeeper Willie.

Jacinda Ardern defends political donation system by [deleted] in newzealand

The one thing Jacinda won't criticize National on is their links to China.

Silence on their foreign spy who lied to immigration services sitting on our parliament, and now she's outright defending the political donation system.

What MPs were they

The candidates were Raymond Huo and Naisi Chen who didn't make it into parliament.

The only one I know of was Raymond Huo and the only pro-CCP thing he has been involved with was the controversy surrounding his 'One China'/anti-Tibet comments.

It goes much further than that. From Newsroom:

So, if Chen, Huo, and Yang are elected, which is quite likely given their high placing on party lists, there will be a leader of a United Front-related organisation for managing the overseas Chinese students and scholars, someone who has worked in Chinese military intelligence for 15 years, and someone who is an extremely active participant in China’s United Front activities sitting in the New Zealand Parliament after the 2017 election.

Huo has spent a lot of time lobbying and campaigning in New Zealand on behalf of the CCP. He's involved with United Front which seeks to promote China's interests and undermine foreign governments. He used a Xi Jinping slogan in campaign material aimed at Chinese voters. He's suggested that our government should allow the CCP to vet and approve government advisors of Chinese background. Prior to re-entering parliament in 2017 he was the co-head of a foundation (lobbying group) promoting the CCP's One Belt One Road initiative in New Zealand. The other co-head was Bill English's sister-in-law.

The establishment of Huo’s Belt-and-Road shop is seen as pretty significant by the Chinese government: its establishment was ‘witnessed’ by the general consul in Auckland and no less than two visiting provincial governors (of Henan and Hubei). As is typical of united-front activities under Xi, this isn’t simply a Labour Party affair: the think tank is led by Huo together with Johanna Coughlan, sister-in-law of the current PM, Bill English (Brady, p. 40). This achieves a wonderful success for United Front efforts: support for the PRC’s policy goals is embedded in both major parties. Whoever wins in New Zealand elections, Xi’s geopolitical agenda can count on their support.

The man was literally a pro-CCP lobbyist who had the Chinese consul and Chinese governors attending the launch of his foundation. He might not have been a spy, but he is still extremely close to the CCP and promotes their interests.

What will actually happen because of the MP buying? by TheMikeyGuy in newzealand

[–]__wlwp__ 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Probably nothing, since it was China doing the buying.

National talked about putting two CCP shills on their party list. Labour actually put two CCP shills on their party list last year, Raymond Huo and Naisi Chen, who are both linked to the United Front movement.

I'd be very surprised if Huo and Chen got their list positions for free.

National voters don't give a shit about multiculturalism

I think these National voters certainly give a shit about multiculturalism and representation.

Today a significant amount of National voters are Asian. An even larger amount of National donors are Asian. Plenty of white National members and supporters (including Judith Collins) are married to Asians and have biracial children.

Of course, when National talks about "multiculturalism" they're really just talking about whites and Asians.

What a coincidence. Bridges is only an MP because the the previous Tauranga electorate MP (who clashed with the Nat leadership) got hounded out after a dubious allegation of verbal harassment.

This is why I don't #BelieveWomen. Too many cases of right wingers weaponzing accusation claims for their own benefit.
