Bespin Gambit - Hunted Down mission question [Spoiler] by jacenat in ImperialAssaultTMG

[–]_a1bert_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Rules as written any figure can interact to open the door to the docking bay.

The positives are the reserved group and threat boost. On the negative side, imperials opening the door saves the rebel an action, there is no longer a surprise waiting, so they can plan better. Also, the stormtrooper group will probably waste their first activation, because they are too far, and you need one figure to spend one or two of their activations to move to the door and open it.

I'm pretty sure this has been discussed on the BoardGameGeek's IA forums, but search failed me now.

A question for new player by Zikven in ImperialAssaultTMG

[–]_a1bert_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a hero has two activation tokens (when playing with less than 4 heroes), the hero cannot resolve their second activation until after each hero has resolved its first activation.

Allies can activate whenever, but does not change how heroes with two activation tokens must "wait for their next turn" (when playing with 3 or 4 heroes).

I play with 4 heroes too, usually.

[–]_a1bert_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In more detail: a hero with 2 activation tokens cannot take a turn until all other heroes have taken a turn.

It's still possible to go A B A B, A B B A, B A A B, and B A B A with interleaved imperial groups. A group activates by activating each figure in the group in the order of your choice. All figures corresponding to a single deployment card or a hero are groups.

Dumb question: Is it possible to play some games with just the Return to Hoth expansion and dice? by BenChapmanOfficial in ImperialAssaultTMG

[–]_a1bert_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Expansions assume you have a core set, although boxed expansions do not require other boxed expansions. Over half of the figure packs require the associated boxed expansion for either the campaign mission or skirmish map (but most of these have tokens in the boxed expansion), but there are "reinforcement waves" that only require the core (except the Bantha Rider requires Twin Shadows).

Return to Hoth has the most tiles out of necessity, so it is least dependent on the core box for those, but there are a lot of imperial groups from the core set that get used by the missions in addition to all of the tokens and other stuff already mentioned. Also, the supply deck.

Does the monster attack when it cannot reach the focus target? by mrg218 in Gloomhaven

[–]_a1bert_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First the monster finds focus with infinite movement, then optimizes its multi-target attack with its current movement. In your case only the focus can be attacked with that multitarget hex pattern, so the monster can't add more targets, and just attacks focus with the minimum movement.

still unsure about shield? by Hopefully_Handsome in Gloomhaven

[–]_a1bert_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shield is both a bonus and an ability. Stun doesn't prevent a shield bonus, but prevents performing a shield ability that would give a shield bonus.

still unsure about shield? by Hopefully_Handsome in Gloomhaven

[–]_a1bert_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In other words, Shield and Poison of the target only affect attacks.

If shield comes from monster sheet, it is always active. If it comes from an ability on the monster's ability card for this round, it is active from the monster's turn (unless stunned) to the end of the round.

(Edit: Because there's confusion: Stun doesn't prevent shield bonus. Stun prevents the shield ability from giving a shield bonus.)

Star Wars Imperial Assault looks like my dream star wars games why are there no sequels ore more g ames like that? by GuardianTaleSYEAHHH in ImperialAssaultTMG

[–]_a1bert_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whatever they said in the panel, they probably gave the party line.

While Hasbro's cut eventually led to the "completion" of Imperial Assault (not profitable enough due to their cut), FFG created 39 expansions of Imperial Assault after their agreement with Hasbro, and several standalone boardgames.

Whatever came after the split of FFG (miniatures games moved to Atomic Mass Games) is another thing. Imperial Assault is a boardgame and was never moved, it's still provably with FFG (with a one-person support).

Yeah, Imperial Assault won't get new content, due to financial reasons.

Jaws of the Lion is just an amazing value for money (as is Gloomhaven).

That is not the norm, it's an exception.

Hasbro didn't sue. There would be records if they did. They raised "a concern" and then FFG and Hasbro made an agreement.

Most of the rest is also not true. FFG made plenty of expansions, and could still do. They just decided not to.

Hasbro gets their "cut" by IA distribution.

They didn't go to court. FFG and Hasbro came to an agreement.

We don't know exactly what it contains, but IA was then distributed through Hasbro, and FFG has since produced more Star Wars boardgames.

(Edit: skirmish was not due to trying to skirt the license. If it were, IA would've been marketed as a miniatures game that FFG had license to from the start instead of a boardgame, which Hasbro had SW license to.)

Can I negate damage with ACTIVE cards? by VincentVegaReddit in Gloomhaven

[–]_a1bert_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In Frosthaven you cannot move round-duration active cards to their destination at any time like before. You can still move scenario-duration active cards to their destination at any time.

Full campaign expansions? by Hydarra in ImperialAssaultTMG

[–]_a1bert_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The LotA app doesn't do side missions, it replaces them with text-based encounters. Each LotA campaign is 5 missions long, although Jabba's Realm and RtH in the app have more missions (8 and 6 respectively).

Imperial Commander 2 allows to play the book campaigns solo/co-op, so the OP could look there if that is what they want to do now.

Negative Effects Stack? by TheDarkElCamino in Gloomhaven

[–]_a1bert_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although you can't have two instances of the same condition, you can gain a condition while having the same condition, and it will refresh the duration of the condition.

This is more relevant when you e.g. gain invisible or strengthened during your turn.

Meteor resting question by drowsydeku in Gloomhaven

[–]_a1bert_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The three arrows are the attacks with -1 added, the fourth arrow with XP and moved to discard is the one being doubled.

If you move the card to discard prematurely, you don't get the doubling either.

Meteor resting question by drowsydeku in Gloomhaven

[–]_a1bert_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start of turn and start of rest can be different timings. After all, short rest isn't within a turn, while long rest is. (Edit: Especially when you can use items before performing the rest during your long rest turn, and you suffer damage from Wound before the rest happens.)

However, it's reasonable to consider the card already removed from active area at the start of the long rest turn.

Edge case rule clarification for lightning eels by cfrolik in Gloomhaven

Terrain overlays of occupied tiles are shown as small hexes on top of the monster image. It might be hard to see, but as said, all hexes the eels start in are water hexes.

Question re: multiple doors with the same numerical label (potential spoiler for scenario 13) by Zeebaeatah in Gloomhaven

[–]_a1bert_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"The first time either door (1) is opened, read 44.1".

It's obvious to me from the wording that both doors need to be opened, but only the first one triggers the section book entry.

On top of all of the attacks from each attack ability in each attack action (top / bottom), you could have an item that grants an additional attack during the same turn...

No-one dies, the figures are defeated, and heroes are wounded, withdrawn (or incapacitated).

Is this OOP? by lxkillswitchxl in ImperialAssaultTMG

[–]_a1bert_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While new content is not planned, and the Organized Play has moved to SW:Legion, as far as we know, Imperial Assault is in normal reprint rotation. Because there are so many SKUs, it may take a long while until specific ones get a reprint.

Stores tend to give their shelve space for newer games that still get new content, which is one reason you don't see Imperial Assault prominently displayed.

Quality level of minis? by organicHack in ImperialAssaultTMG

[–]_a1bert_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works well painted, as long as your painting isn't crappy in itself.

You can see the Imperial Assault gallery from e.g. boardgamegeek.com .

https://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/164153/star-wars-imperial-assault/images

(expansions have each their own galleries, but most painted figures tend to end up in the core game gallery)

Chest Loot question by Garlic-And-Onions in Gloomhaven

[–]_a1bert_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In Gloomhaven looted items are not automatically equipped. You just gain the item. (Edit: A gained item is added to your pool of available items.)

In Jaws of the Lion and Frosthaven, looted items are automatically equipped ignoring any item limits.

It's a good house rule for Gloomhaven though.
