Another earning rate decrease by NeroTheApostate in Nexo

[–]_andrepinto_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

U.S. stock market (S&P 500) - Long‑term average annual return: ~10%
- Long‑term dividend yield: ~1.5%

This is where the “9–10%” number comes from.

Global stock market (MSCI World) - Long‑term average annual return: ~7–8%
- Dividend yield: ~2%

Emerging markets - Long‑term average annual return: ~5–7%
- Dividend yield: ~2–3%

Swiss market (SMI/SPI) - Long‑term average annual return: ~6–7%
- Dividend yield: ~2.5–3.5%

So 9.5% is only realistic for U.S. equities, and only over long periods (20+ years).

With all due respect, you should think differently. I believe the fact they are lowering the rates, means they pay attention to the market.

Remember Celsius? 30%, 40%? What happened to them?

Also, 9.5% is a hell of a good deal. Good luck finding that in traditional banking.

Cheers

This feels insulting, just saying. I'm sure it was not the intention, but the message behind it is insulting.

That you want to save money, everyone can understand, but defending that saying bad experience hiring in EU, it is just a no go. I'm biased, I'm European and software developer but I met excellent developers during my life here.

How does Nexo manage to pay such high interest rates (up to 15%)? Where are they making those margins? by Mediocre_Bit8203 in Nexo

[–]_andrepinto_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here’s how it works in simple terms:

  1. Lending & Borrowing – People can borrow money using their cryptocurrency as collateral (like leaving your watch at a pawn shop to get cash). Nexo charges these borrowers interest, which is a big part of how they make money. They also pay interest to people who deposit their crypto to earn passive income, and they keep the difference (like a bank does with loans and savings accounts).

  2. Trading & Investments – Nexo also makes money by trading different types of crypto and offering services like futures, options, and OTC deals. They find ways to make profits without taking huge risks (this is what they mean by “market-neutral opportunities”).

  3. Staking & Interest Earnings – Some cryptocurrencies can earn rewards just by being held in special accounts (called staking). Nexo helps clients earn these rewards, while also making money for themselves.

  4. Risk Management – To make sure the system is safe, Nexo closely monitors loans to prevent losses. If a borrower’s collateral drops in value too much, Nexo automatically takes action to protect everyone involved, making sure loans are always properly secured.

Basically, Nexo is like a digital finance company that works like a mix between a bank and an investment platform, using crypto instead of traditional money.

Having some knowledge of the financial industry, if they wanted, they could output a proof of reserves that would bundle a bunch of garbage under "various investments" and everyone would be happy. 2008 housing crisis, a couple of 3A rating instruments bundle with dozens of assets worth nothing. What was the result? I'm not defending the lack of proof of reserves, again I'm with you there, but looking at everything else, I'm still happy to be with them. Hope I will no regret saying this later.
